Ok, this is totally a spin-off of the "In This Thread, We Talk About Things That Make Us Feel Old" thread. I joke with my mom all the time about things that make me fee like an "adult". (And yes, I meant for that to be in quotes!)

- I got my own Safeway card recently.

- I just bought something off of a wedding registry for the first time. This will be the first time I was invited to a wedding and it wasn't part of an invitation for my whole family.

Oh, and here's a post from one of my favorite blogs. This one is called "This is Why I'll Never Be an Adult."

This thread makes me feel old. :)

Reading "Safeway" makes me feel old because I haven't been inside a Safeway since I was a kid. I know where Safeways are located but haven't actually noticed one in years.

My friends are starting to get married. I bought my first bridesmaid dress yesterday.

I figured someone would say that. :p Oh, but that belongs in another thread...

Ah, we have those all over here.

A lot of my friends are already married and for some reason that doesn't phase me, but the kids do. It's still weird to me that people I grew up with have children now.

Also, answering "24 in less than a month" to the freshmen who ask how old I am. I look young (I think it's the babyface) so they frequently think I'm one of them.

Birth of first child. Birth of first child's first child.

I'm around about "system failure" already. But...things that make me feel like an "adult" (whether I like it or not):

Getting my taxes done in a timely manner.

Voting!

I officially have my own insurance. Card came in the mail today.

A few more:

- I got summoned for jury duty the other day.
- Wedding planning.

Too much adult stuff. Thank God I'm heading to Champaign this weekend, lol

Took my daughter to her first day of Pre-school today. I feel old AND like an adult! There's no way I'm a grown-up!

I feel you. I sat in the emergency exit row and the flight attendant came up to me and said "Oh honey you have to be over 15 to sit here".

I'm 23.

I'm a homeowner! Paying my first mortgage payment on Wednesday!

I don't know why, but rushing around with my big old cup of coffee always makes me feel like an adult (or at the very least a big kid :D )

Home ownership does it for me. Not even having teenagers makes me feel as adult as this house and it shocks me from time to time when I realize "This house is mine, I bought it all by myself and I am responsible for it, all by myself". Then I usually freak out.

Let's see...

I'm married! DH and I are preparing to buy our first home next year. And my younger sister (biological) is now 23.

My furniture matches, except a few antiques.

Yes, I said that. My furniture MATCHES, MINUS the ANTIQUES.

WTF? I've never had matching furniture before in my life!

This reminded me of another one! The sound of my high heels clacking on the floor always makes me feel like a grown-up. It reminds me of my mom getting ready for work when I was little.

I'm definitely not that bad!

There is something very grown up about sipping Starbucks while sitting in traffic.

THIS. Every time the mortgage bill comes, I think to myself, "Why did I want out of school so bad? Real life doesn't have summer vacation."

For me, it was the rubbermaid, easy-find lids. I'd never had "real" storage stuff like that - always gladware.

But really, mostly, it's the furniture. Especially since we went to our old place last night and moved out the last of the mis-matched furniture (right to the alley).

We went house hunting over the weekend. With an agent and everything. When did I grow up? boo

• Running errands on the weekend like dry cleaning and food shopping
• Making my coffee at home and bringing my travel mug in the office
• Writing checks every month to cover the mortgage
• Getting my Costco membership to buy exciting things like paper towels
• Shopping for a new washing machine
• All of my friends are married and on to having their second baby
• Saying out loud that I graduated from college over 10 years ago!
• Yelling at the kids out the window to get off my lawn

Mentally and physically preparing to be laid off.

To this day I have trouble getting in bars. They're convinced my ID is fake because "There's no way you were born in '86".

It's okay. I'll be the bacon winner for a little bit. :P

Having to plan "fun" things around my job make me feel all grown up. :P

Also, calling companies or people who have very powerful jobs.

Hmmm, probably three years ago, when I moved from home to a different state to go to vet school. That, and when I bought my own car, leased my own place, and bought five vending machines to help with my financial obligations. Nine months to go, and I'm a vet. I think my adult life will feel much more complete when that happens.:)

Vending machines? Does this work? Cause if so I'm gonna go for it.

I walked outside one night to take the garbage out because I dumped shelfish in it... My mom would have ripped me a new one for doing that. I realized, in my mind, I was saying her lines "Get your butt back in this house! Anything could happen at this time of night, trash can wait until morning."

I feel like an adult when I do things my mom would frown upon and there's no one to nag me :)

Being able to talk to my parents in a tone that says "I'm an adult and I handle my life. Please let me do so or face my wrath." and them stepping back.

I just did this with my dad yesterday lol.

It depends on location, what you're selling, and who you know. It's been working for me. I mean, I haven't worked since I started my clinicals, and it pays for all of my bills, and my living expenses. I wanted to buy more, but having five is a lot for one person.

I wish I could say this. My mom calls me on the phone to nag. She just nags, nags, nags, and nags away. She still treats me like I'm 10.:rolleyes:

I'm going to look into this. :)
