Your Fave GLO Jewelry!

So, I'll admit that I'm a little obsessed with jewelry. What are your favorite pieces that you own or would like to own? What sites do you like to use to shop around?

Here are a couple pieces I adore from the HJ Greek site. :)

And last but not least...

Isn't he cute?!

Looking forward to seeing more :)

(Not my organization, but I love the necklace. There are lots of sorority options for the charm.)

Phi Mu jewelry

I own this necklace but, with alternating rose sapphires.
https://carnationcollection.phimu.or...mal/0528ss.jpg

I wear this charm with my diamond quatrefoil necklace.
https://carnationcollection.phimu.or...mal/200495.jpg

My diamond and rose quatrefoil necklace looks just like this but, on a chain.
https://carnationcollection.phimu.or...mal/300DRS.jpg

I own this necklace but, in 10k yellow gold. I wear it with my grandmother's cross (she passed away recently) and my "Ich liebe dich" heart necklace from my mother because I was born in Germany.
https://carnationcollection.phimu.or...ormal/3120.jpg

I'm contemplating getting this:
https://carnationcollection.phimu.or...mal/200937.jpg

If nothing else, I would like to get a ring badge holder for my turquoise badge I got at Convention. I am also partial to anything with my crest and letters on it like my pewter keychain.

My rings!

I've since lost a pearl from my crest ring - it's Balfour, so I'm not sure how to get it repaired.

Love this one... seems to be a popular one for all the GLOs, though.

I highly recommend getting a badge ring if you can - it makes me happy every day!

Yeah, a lot of our alumnae have them and recommend them too! I've been planning ahead, and might get one in my last term of being active to have for when I go alum. That or the necklace pendant. Or more realistically, both!

PhoenixAzul 08-22-2010 09:56 PM

My SIL has this ring, and I think it is a really clever way to wear her "badge" every day, since the AXiD quill can't be really made into a ring or put into a necklace holder like some others can.

Here are my necklaces - the diamond anchor is from my (now) husband and the other three were my mother's when she was a DG in the late 60's/70's.

Thank you. Yes, my fiancé is the one who bought me all this jewelry. He takes great care of me to get me my Phi Mu items. I'm trying to talk him into a jeweled badge of his own; he's a member of Alpha Chi Sigma Chemistry Fraternity, but he doesn't like the idea of wearing jewels.

I LOVE those earrings. They are subtle and they don't scream "sorority girl" in your face. They are a nice touch. I have quatrefoil earrings in silver and gold, that I wear when I want to be subtle, in business situations, for example. I hope you get those earrings, like SOON!

Very much love subtle references, too. I have earrings of my sorority's mascot, and a couple of necklaces. Though because it's such an odd one, I've found people who are familiar with Greek life assume that's why I'm wearing them.

Have you contacted Balfour yet? They should be able to easily replace it and normally stand by their work. My husband's college class ring has been repaired by them quite a few times over the last 28 years.

I just saw this one today. OBSESSED.

Balfour's Greek division is history - but I guess I could contact their college division and try. Thanks!

That is gorgeous in a subtle way, love the design! Is it by HJGreek or another company?

It's HJGreek. I love that it's the shape of the badge in a ring... I've never seen a Kappa badge made into a ring, but if one exists I certainly would love to see it! That may be on the Christmas list this year... :o

steelerbear 08-25-2010 08:26 PM

Ooh, yay! I like this thread, too.

Here's a recognition pin, but it's not one that's exclusive to Phi Mu. We still don't have a recognition pin that's a quatrefoil shape. Boo to that.
http://steelerbear.com/phimu/recognition.jpg

The Founders rings I have... left is silver with three rose sapphires (the sapphire in the middle is a little orange in color... I've never liked that fact), and right is gold with three CZ. They're still available here!
By the way, as I'm getting a new ring soon (see the bottom of this post), these will be available for sale soon. They're two different sizes, but that was the mistake of the jeweler at the time (Masters of Design)... I'll have to check what sizes they are, but they're probably a 5 (silver) and a 5.5 (gold)... PM me if you're interested. (Phi Mus only, please.) ;)
http://steelerbear.com/phimu/rings.jpg

Beveled quatrefoil bracelet and earrings. The bracelet isn't available anymore, but the earrings are... actually, they're pendants, but I added earring hooks. Go here to purchase.
http://steelerbear.com/phimu/openquatrefoils.jpg

Open quatrefoil necklace I purchased in 2002. It was only available for a short time as part of our sesquicentennial (150th anniversary). Note that there are 28 stones in this quatrefoil, as opposed to the usual 24. Through the 1950s, jeweled badges had 28 stones, which is why I assume they decided to have 28 for this piece. The stones are TINY, though--barely as big as a pinhead. I wanted the matching badge, but I didn't have the money for it, and I figured I'd wear the necklace more anyway. :) This is also the year Phi Mu (finally) introduced the availability of rose sapphires.
http://steelerbear.com/phimu/150thnecklace.jpg

A recognition pin of sorts for our sesquicentennial. The bond at the bottom has the words Love Honor Truth in its three sections, and below that are the years 1852 (star) 2002.
http://steelerbear.com/phimu/150thpin.jpg

Like several of you above, I love subtlety. At some point, I'll get these earring jackets, and then later on, something to go in them. ;)
https://carnationcollection.phimu.or.../zoom/BALF.jpg

In a few weeks, I'll be purchasing this ring, only in gold and with the stone arrangement to match my new badge. Also, my badge has CZ, but the ring will be getting diamonds. Woohoo!

For a while, Masters of Design (and then HJGreek) offered a "panel ring" for Phi Mu, which was basically the black shield portion of our badge set on a band. Even though I'm getting a fancy schmancy ring soon, part of me still wants the panel ring in gold, so I can wear my badge--without actually wearing my badge. I'm pretty sure they still make it, but I'm concentrating on my sparkly ring first. ;)

Yep. It is. Very simple, but looks beautiful with a nice black blouse.

thetygerlily 08-26-2010 05:21 PM

Here are my main Kappa pendants... although only 1 is official.

http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/5540/kkgpendants.jpg

The big stamped fleur is from a Ren Faire, given to me by a fantastic Theta :)
The little fleur was at a thrift store- I think it is diamonds but need to get it tested.
The antique crest pendant was found online.

I wear them all, but my hands down favorite is the little fleur. It goes with everything! The big fleur is a pretty close second. I just don't wear a lot of gold so the crest isn't a day-to-day pendant.

CiC

I used to have an AGD Badge ring but it wasn't that practical. I have the all-pearl and I was always afraid that I would hit it on something. (I stopped wearing it like that a couple of decades ago but recently had to get the top pearl fixed.)

My opinion is that I would rather get a ring that has the amorial bearings or other design. I've been thinking of it but I currently have rings that I really like that I never wear, oh well, we'll see!;)

I do have the necklace pendant and it's a lot more practical! If you get one and wear a chapter guard, you may want the jeweler to put a little groove it it so the pin (on the back) rests in the groove instead of having to bend it a little in order to close it. I had to do that with my chapter guard and Arc.

FleurGirl 08-27-2010 08:46 PM

For those of you who have purchased badge holders (either rings or pendants)... are you still dressed in pin attire when you wear it? Or are the rules somehow different? I assume you would be dressed to pin, but I honestly never thought about it much.

SWTXBelle 08-27-2010 08:56 PM

I will wear it with, for example, my alumnae panhellenic t-shirt at AP events, but usually I have to be dressed nicely if I'm going to wear the ring.

I work at a hospital on the weekends and wear scrubs. If I get a ring for my turq. badge, would it be tacky to wear it on my right hand, instead of my class ring with my letters on the side? I really love that badge and want to wear it more. Thoughts?

Don't you have to wash your hands a great deal? I'd be afraid for the turquoise - all that contact with soap. Otherwise, I personally would wear it. Yes, you are in scrubs, but for a very admirable reason. I'd look at it as a great way to represent sororities.

SWTXBelle,
Thank you. That's a great way to look at it. I have a huge engagement ring and sometimes I consider not wearing it to work because I sometimes wear gloves. I'll have to consider that. Thanks.

Two thoughts on this:

-I once called our Executive Office to ask about having two pins linked to each other, and other ideas. I was told that I had "Alumna Privilege" and to enjoy my pins!

-My own thought is that, if you wear your pin respectfully, and when you're clean & neatly dressed, I'd rather see someone wear her pin then rather than keep it in a drawer. I doubt that I'd wear any of them with shorts, no matter how tidy & coordinated, though.

VandalSquirrel 08-30-2010 12:44 AM

I just looked at the hjgreek site and I'm less than interested in their jewelry options for Alpha Gam. maybe it is my age, style, or taste, but I'm not whipping out my credit card for any of them. I am glad the flip flop jewelry trend is over, and we have the double rose charm/pendant option, and the squirrel is always cute, but I guess my jewelry is more toned down now and I'm worried about trashing it when I do wear it.

I am considering purchasing the armorial bearing charm and making my own chapter guard from it. I can get any old chapter guard off of eBay and do some jewelry Frankenstein and have what I really want.

There's a site linked from IHQ that has some nicer stuff. I like this one bracelet, and they carry items for a few sororities.

Yesterday, I found one of my other favorites (that are mine). I'll post a picture later, but it's a light blue cabouchen sapphire with our crest on it, worn as a pendant. I got it on ebay, and there was a pink one that I wanted more, but didn't win.

I had an awesome ADPi bracelet years ago, but it went missing. :( But someday, I hope to have the money to replace it. I had been given the braelet as part of Sister of the Year.

That just reminded me!! I have a white gold/yellow gold twisted rope bracelet with a 150th quatrefoil charm hanging from it... unfortunately, because I like to slide bracelets on and off instead of actually using the clasp, it broke. One of these days I'll take it to the jeweler to get re-twisted and such, but I don't often wear bracelets, so it's not totally worth it to me. But thanks for jogging my memory anyway!! :)
