Good news. Delta Gamma should be at Bama!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I'm interested to hear how it goes, but I think it's going to go very well. Best of luck!

We are grinning ear to ear!

This is exciting news! My daughter plans on going through rush next year at Bama. How does a sorority colonize on a campus?
|
I have no details about this particular situation, but here's how it usually goes:
At the beginning of formal recruitment, the new sorority makes a presentation of some sort to all the PNMs. Then formal recruitment takes place, without the new group participating. A few weeks after formal recruitment ends, the new sorority announces that it will be colonizing and advertises for PNMs to sign up for interviews. A big meeting takes place, with girls signing up for interview times. Then a committee of some sort, usually involving both international, regional and local sorority officers, interviews each girl. Invitations are issued for a recruitment-like round, with a neighboring chapter's members doing the rushing. Then invitations are issued for a preferential party, with a different neighboring chapter conducting the party and pref ceremonies. Then bids are issued. The process takes about a week or two. That's just a rough idea of how it goes. Recommendations are highly suggested, and can be sent to the sorority's international headquarters. |
Just throwing my congrats in to our beloved DG! I was part of the Eta Kappa colonization at North Carolina State University and can not say enough what an awesome experience it was being a charter member! There are going to be some LUCKY girls at 'Bama next year!

News travels fast! High school seniors in my area are already buzzing about the new chapter at Bama... I was asked about it today!

LOST Duke President's BADGE - PLEASE HELP
Just got word from our Duke DG president that her president's badge has been lost. It fell off somewhere between her apt. in Durham and Elon College where Duke was presenting to expand. She is beside herself. :( This is the original Duke president's badge from June 1, 1939. It is larger and flatter than the standard member badge. I am heartsick about this too, especially having worn this badge 23 years ago.
I told her I would post on GC about it, but I cannot figure out how to start a new thread with this... if someone can help me and post this as a new thread? I have recommended she post on Durham and the Elon area craigslist and also contact Elon and the student paper there as well as the Duke paper. Does anyone know if there is an Elon thread on GC? Any help would be so appreciated! |

I'll keep her in my thoughts and hope she locates it. Meantime, we should all be watching flea markets and the like, in case someone picked it up and tries to sell it. And e-bay, in case it goes national. |

(and btw - I'm hoping that Delta Gamma is chosen to colonize!) |
What other sororities presented at Elon?
|
Thank you for the leads and thoughts! I have sent her the whole list of all of the Elon Greek presidents and Panhellenic officers, so that is going to be a good place to help get the word out. If it hits Ebay, I am all over that one! Trust me! I told her it may end up in a pawn shop, or in a dealer's hands, but the Greek atmosphere at Elon is wonderful with great students, and I feel certain that if a student finds it, he/she will know immediately what it is and how special and important it is. I really appreciate the help!!

Hope the badge is recovered! |
I'll pass word along to Eta Kappa (NCSU). I know there were some collegians there from Eta Kappa - chances are slim they picked it up...but just in case.
|
I'll keep my fingers crossed as well. I remember the badge and it is beautiful!
I was also thinking it may be helpful to contact the groundskeeper/janitorial staff at Elon just in case they found it on the ground somewhere on campus. I am assuming they have some sort of a lost and found. BTW, I got the message on the Beta Theta FB group -- it is great that we are getting the word out quickly. |

Elon Follow-up
Hi - Thank you so much for the contact for Shana and the lost-and-found. I spoke with someone at lost-and-found and also left a voice mail for Shana. The help is wonderful, and if it is found, I will post right away to let you all know! :-) Everyone has been so helpful and hopeful! :)

|
Beta Psi chapter of Delta Gamma at the University of Alabama is again a reality! The chapter was installed with the initiation of 210 young women Saturday. Steel is going up on the house.
It's a great day to be a DG in Alabama!:D |
According to Greekchat (which knows all), Delta Gamma is one of five sororities presenting in February at the University of Arkansas.:D
|
Based upon their success at Alabama I would say they are ready to try and crack another tough nut.
|
Pardon the crash, ladies. I just wanna say that I wish someone with the knowledge would make a thread about Arkansas recruitment so I don't have to follow multiple threads for all the details. Best of luck to you, and all my Panhellenic sisters!!
|
YOU can make a thread and invite people to post. But I would suggest putting it in the Sorority Recruitment forum. And don't be surprised if you STILL have to search and read multiple threads. It's not really that hard to do.
|
DG is back at Bama with a vengeance!! They had an absolutely WONDERFUL first year!!
Congratulations DG and Roll Tide!! |
In the Fall of 2014, Delta Gamma will join the six current sororities at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
This is the second part of a "stacked" colonization, with Alpha Delta Pi colonizing in 2012. Other sororities on campus are: Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Gamma Phi Beta, Phi Mu, and Zeta Tau Alpha. It's the first colonization for Delta Gamma since Beta Psi chapter was re-established at the University of Alabama in 2011. |
