Auburn & Alabama Bid Lists
Who went where?
|
|
UA hasn't yet been posted. My guess is that it will later today.

1) there are 2 girls from PA on it which amazes me 2) "Isle of Palms, SC" sounds like an absolutely lovely place. :) |
Echoing 33girl, I was amazed to see two girls from CT (where I grew up) on the list as well!
|
Isle of Palms is a lovely place! It is one of my favorite beaches.
|
I am amazed to see more girls from Illinois than from South Carolina. I mean, Illinois is a much larger state, but still -- it's not a result I would have expected.

OH, ALABAMA, WHY MUST YOU TORTURE ME???
|
Yay for the three Ohio peeps. I don't think any of them are around my way (more central and southern I'm guessing) but it's still cool.

Every time someone posts on this thread, and it's not the Bama bid list, it's like a dagger in my heart.
Okay, I'm indulging in hyperbole. BUT STILL . . . |
Do we need an entire thread for this?
|
We are driving home from Las Vegas and I was hoping they would post the list before DH and I switch drivers...damn.
I'll check in a couple of hours when we switch again :) |

Geez. They're busy enough. |
Weird--only two girls from my hometown, and about 3-4 sprinkled in surrounding towns.
There used to be 10-15 easily for each school--I think that with the increasing popularity of Bright Futures, girls who used to go to Auburn and Bama are staying in Florida. |
IT IS UP!!!
And one of mine went Alpha Chi Omega! Another went Delta Zeta - one went Pi Beta Phi - AND MY JOY HAS NO BOUNDS - ONE WENT GAMMA PHI!!! |
It makes me crazy that it is not in excel format so that I can search by city. Does anyone know an easy way to convert?

Wow, that's a LOT of pledges (1,398) at Bama! How many women started recruitment there?
|
I think 1650 started. I'll check out the list in detail later. I'm in Bakersfield filling up at Costco :)

One of the new Chi O members at Alabama is the granddaughter of my boys' 4-year-old kindergarten teacher! Her mom is a ZTA from USC and her sister is a Tri Delta from Clemson. One of her mom's sisters is a KD. Looks like they are trying to catch up with the Carnation Nation!

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I was able to Control F. Strangely I have never needed that type of function before. Thanks for teaching me something new.
Was bummed to see that of the girls from my area none of them went Theta and what makes me even more crazy is that none of them registered with our Panhellenic. Therefore, we didn't know about any of them and thus could not/did not provide a rec. I hope that they were able to secure recs to all the houses on their own, but past experience in this town tells me that this is not typically the case. Perhaps I am just exasperated with the whole "you have to have recs to all houses" thing falling on deaf ears. I am happy that they were able to find a new home at Bama, though. That is the most important thing. |
Did anyone else notice the 3 girls, who I'm assuming are triplets, on the Auburn bid list- 2 went one sorority and the 3rd went something else. Awkward?

I get being a little disappointed no one joined Theta, but.. I dunno, it feels like you assume they would have wanted Theta over their current chapters but must not have had a chance. Not necessarily what you meant, but it's how it comes across to me. |

My point was simply that none of them signed up through the Panhellenic to even give us the opportunity to recommend them. I do know that cuts can be harsh at Bama without recs and so since they didn't sign up through the Panhellenic, that perhaps there were other houses in addition to Theta that they were lacking recs to as well. I probably should have also stated that almost every single year there are local girls that decide to go through Bama rush at the last minute and therefore obtain only a handful of recs. Or they decide early enough, but feel that recs are only necessary for the 2-3 houses that they THINK they are interested in. In other words, despite our attempts at getting the word out that recs are needed for all houses that message is falling on deaf ears locally. I have even had PNMs tell me that recs aren't needed "because we pick where we want to go everyday anyway. It is our choice where we go back to." Hence the "when will they ever learn?" The Theta thing was just me lamenting that perhaps they could have potentially had one more chapter in their mix to consider, not so much a 'they would have chosen Theta over the house that they did' thing. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will attempt to edit as that is not the vibe I intended at all. |
^^^ It's ok, I felt weird pointing it out, but I also felt weird not saying anything either.

And yes, we have girls who will say they're just going to get a few recs for the sororities they think they want. What's REALLY irksome, however, is the local alumnae group of an NPC sorority that refuses to participate in the alumnae panhellenic. They say they'll pick the girls they want to sponsor and don't need the info from Panhellenic. I just figure they miss out on some great girls. |

So short-sighted - there's no way they can know of every senior girl interested in recruitment, so OF COURSE they miss out on some really great girls. Perhaps they see it as being "exclusive" - but it's sad that the chapters might not be notified of some girls who would be awesome members simply because they do not know someone in the alumnae group. And then there's the whole "panhellenic" thing. Part of promoting NPC membership is presenting a united front - we're all in this together - and by not participating in ALL of the APH activities that group re-enforces the negative image of sororities. |
Yay - One of my rec girls went AOII and another went Alpha Phi.
Re Not registering with Alumnae Panhellenics, I agree that it is becoming a problem. More and more PNMs feel that it is not necessary for a variety of reasons. The one most popular is that "The collegiate chapters are supposed to get them." Hello! Where do the collegiate chapters get them? From alumnae. How do alumnae know who is going through recruitment? From friends, co-workers, church and yes, Alumnae Panhellenic! |
So as the mom of a PNM in 2011 when is the best time to register with the state Alumnae Panhellenic?

I have put the Auburn new member list on a spreadsheet. If you'd like a copy, please PM me.

My daughter plans on rushing in fall 2011. We are from Alabama and I went to a college that didn't have Greek life. How do we find the state Alumnae Panhellenic and Panhellenic Preview weekends?
