Not digging the new GC look

Not liking the navigation stuff taking up such a large portion of the left hand side of the screen when browsing forums or even just reading threads. There's no need for it to take up that much space (and I am not a fan of it even being docked to the left like that)

RU OX Alum 08-11-2010 08:31 PM

agreed

ree-Xi 08-11-2010 08:35 PM

I thought it was a problem on my computer. The left navigation is too wide.

Lady Pi 08-11-2010 08:39 PM

I hate it as well.

33girl 08-11-2010 08:39 PM

I concur. This is really annoying. Especially when you get to the end of a thread and there's nothing but white space on the left. My yearbook advisor would have a coronary.

What they said

LOL -- prime space for copy

perfectinpurple 08-11-2010 08:47 PM

Agree with everything everyone has said. I hate it.

SWTXBelle 08-11-2010 08:51 PM

Count me amongst the haters.

MysticCat 08-11-2010 08:58 PM

I hadn't even noticed. :o

nittanygirl 08-11-2010 09:03 PM

I agree... it's kind of annoying.

NinjaPoodle 08-11-2010 09:37 PM

Meh. As long as I can read it, I'm cool. I'm just glad GC is still free. :)

agzg 08-11-2010 09:41 PM

I liked it when it was smaller, but it is to wide now.

Seems like I'm on the left.

So funny! I can still remember my yearbook advisor beating this into our heads and with the same level of intensity that yours must have displayed!

ETA - yes, the new format is weird.

Agreed on both counts.

tld221 08-11-2010 10:02 PM

You see me... hi haters.

Yeah, not a huge fan either. But, it IS free. Wonder why the change?

agzg 08-11-2010 10:43 PM

Ah yes, the ad wasn't there before.

Well, at least if there's a point, I guess. LOL.

Miriverite 08-12-2010 12:13 AM

Agreed with all said above - I thought it was an issue with my browser at first too.

Kappamd 08-12-2010 12:16 AM

I would rather have two smaller ads- one above the other- than the gigantic one that is there now.

ColdInCanada11 08-12-2010 07:41 AM

Irritating and awkward looking.

Same!

I understand the need for ads, but this poorly designed.

Nanners52674 08-12-2010 08:12 AM

I really don't like it.

DaemonSeid 08-12-2010 08:19 AM

well it's not like Facebook...LOL

ree-Xi 08-12-2010 02:29 PM

I agree, it's free, but I do have some thoughts from a usability perspective.

- Above the fold is gold.
- If you have to have an ad on the nav side, don't push the content out so much that it forces too much wrapping. This is especially important when accessing on a mobile phone.
- Ads on the left side are awkward, especially if there is heavy navigation on the left side.
- A 300px × 250px ad is just obnoxious. Why not do a longer ad versus a wider one, and below the nav? It will still be noticeable (because you have to go to the bottom of the page to post a reply) but not interfere with people's user experience.

The important stuff - the threads and navigation - are less accessible and now require more scrolling.

TPA85 08-12-2010 04:29 PM

Mine looks exactly the same as it always has, just with a large ad above the "newest member" thing...:confused:

Second.

thetygerlily 08-12-2010 05:04 PM

I also didn't like it at first, but...

It is now much more readable on my iPhone. Because the actual thread width is more narrow, the text is slightly larger and I no longer have to go to the landscape view to read GC. So there is an upside if you frequently view (or post) from your phone.

Semi off topic, but I did yearbook in high school, also, so now whenever I read a magazine all I do is notice white space and think how to change the layout to be even better

Same here :D

Senusret I 08-12-2010 06:08 PM

The only reason it's weird for me is because gmail made some changes today too. My whole world is topsy turvy.

pshsx1 08-12-2010 06:44 PM

YouTube just made some slight changes again today (maybe yesterday... I didn't touch the computer at all Wednesday).

SO MUCH CHANGE!

This obviously Obama's work.
