questions about attire

I've seen in other boards that mention UF that they don't have the best examples for what to wear.
For round one it says "shorts or skirt and a T-shirt or polo with comfortable shoes is reccomended". Should I stick to what it says or should I kick it up a notch?
For round two it says it is similar to round one, but that it's craft day. I basically have nothing to go by with that.
I was thinking of possibly wearing a romper for either round 1 or 2.
It looks similar to this:
http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban...ULTS&color=049
I have two that are very similar to that, one has 1 sleeve and the other is sleeveless. I have a cute waist sinching belt and shoes that match very well, but I don't really know the opinion of rompers during rush.

For round three it says "a sundress or an outfit that you might wear to a nice dinner."
These are some of my options:
http://www.forever21.com/product.asp...=3&pgcount=100
I have the same dress, but I can't find the same color online. Mine has the top block in a light pink and the bottom black.
Or,
a cotton, sleeveless, teal and white patterned sundress also with the brown waist belt and same shoes. I can't find a picture of the dress online for some reason, and I don't know if it would be appropriate to show a picture of me in it. :/

If those two options aren't dressy enough, I also have a top like this:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fPGemHJJ8-...+top-138-n.jpg
(The one on the left, however mine just has the ruffles down the middle, not covering the entire front)
WHich would be tucked into a black ruffled skirt similar to this:
http://www.bluefly.com/Free-People-b...:referralID=NA
However mine doesn't have the waistband.

I still haven't decided on my prefs dress, and need to go shopping for it.
I do have a question on shoes though - does the heel length matter? I don't want to come across as skanky or something if my heels are too high. I have this pair:
http://www.polyvore.com/black_patent...ng?id=11630098
Which are way high. Would those be alright? If not I have a pair of simple black heels with a rhinestone decoration.

Also for round 1 or 2, would these shoes be acceptable?

Is UF the one that gives you the t-shirt for craft day or am I confusing that with another school? So many what to wear threads. They make me smile:)

Have you looked at some of the threads on here about what to wear? I actually did one for a PAC 10 school and I don't think recruitment gets to much more casual then that. I think shorts (nice ones) are fine to wear during round 1. Yes the rompers are popular and if you look TNT in yours I think that would be appropriate (no butt or boobs hanging out). The shoes also look fine that you have picked out for round 1 and 2. One thought about the color blocked dress- how tight is the skirt on it? What shoes will you wear with it? You don't want to look like your going to a bar or a party. My advice would be to wear something (all days) that you would meet your new boyfriends parents wearing. I would wear 1 ruffled piece not both. I think a sundress might be your best option for this day. The last link is for a pair of black shoes, They are super duper high heels. Can you walk in them for a distance from one preference party to the next? Remember there will be some standing in the parties. You might be more comfortable with a shorter heel.

gatorK130 08-08-2010 12:38 PM

I don't know about giving us a shirt, I haven't found anything that says they do, so I'm not sure.
The color blocked dress is, I'll admit, a tight fit. Not as in too tight, but it is skin-hugging. I mean it looks good on me haha, but I don't know if that would be okay.
I can walk in the heels, but you're probably right, a shorter pair would be better haha.
Thanks for the advice. :)
Oh and I also have a day of orientation and bid day, it doesn't say anything to do for those. Suggestions?

You don't have to spend tons of $$, but you are going in the wrong direction with your choices. Think more preppy. You are out to impress girls, not guys. i can't really say if your pref. shoe is appropriate if you haven't chosen your pref. dress yet. Look at some of the dress threads for bama or auburn or georgia.

AXOrushadvisor 08-08-2010 12:59 PM

If the black dress is skin hugging I would suggest going with another option. I don't doubt that you look good in it, but I believe it is better to dress safe.

On orientation day do you just go into a hall and listen to folks talk about what to expect? If your not meeting any Sorority women I would probably go in shorts, t shirt and flip flops that seems to be the college uniform in a hot climate. Did they not give you any advice on bid day? Most Chapters, I believe, give you a t-shirt, but there might be someone on here that can tell you exactly what happens. If not ask your Rho Chi what girls usually wear for bid day. Good luck to you!

gatorK130 08-08-2010 02:07 PM

Okay, thanks for all the advice. I've gotten a better idea of what to wear now, and now I know what I need to buy!
I just need a round 1 top, and dresses for round 3 and prefs. Possibly another outfit for round 1.
Thanks so much. :)

KSUViolet06 08-08-2010 02:11 PM

Note: what to wear is important, but be sure that you are getting prepared in other ways as well (conversation skills, recs, etc.)

FSUZeta 08-08-2010 02:13 PM

round 1 top-get a ralph lauren solid color polo with khaki skirt, flat sandals or sperry topsiders. you can add a cute belt if your skirt has loops-maybe even a striped ribbon of the appropriate width to fit in the loops, that would color coordinate with your shirt. i know a couple of UF sorority members who wore this outfit when they were pnms.

you can take a look in this forum at the "opinions at a big sec school" thread by hotpinkandpearls-if you could find outfits similar to her possibilities, you should be okay. her lilly dresses(or something on that line) would be good for 2nd round for you. at florida, you want to step it up a notch for each round of party, while keeping it conservative(nothing too short, too tight or showing too much boobs).

here are the suggestions from hotpinkandpearls:

Open Houses/Ice Water Teas
http://i25.tinypic.com/w02f0n.jpg
http://tinypic.com/r/23iid0i/3
Question Two: I love Lilly Pulitzer. Is it going to possibly make the wrong impression wearing it the very first day though? Are these dressy enough/too dressy?

[b] Philanthropy[b]
(The t-shirts I chose are just similar colors to ours, I don't have the ones we'll wear yet obviously)
http://i25.tinypic.com/rtkig6.jpg
http://i27.tinypic.com/dmejw1.jpg
Question Three: Are bows too little-kid? I love wearing hair bows, but I'm afraid girls will think I'm still channeling 3rd grade.

Skit Day
http://i30.tinypic.com/kcey4y.jpg
http://i30.tinypic.com/3509bue.jpg
Question Four: Formal enough for your typical SEC skit day? Which one of these would be better, if either?

borrowed this from another thread posted by lightening bug:

Try Macy's sale
I just saw this thread...Macy's clearance sale with 99-cent shipping on certain items is ending today. If you check this thread today, I found some very cute items for great prices with the 99-cent shipping:

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/produc...ategoryID=4284

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/produc...ategoryID=4284

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/produc...ategoryID=4284

http://www1.macys.com/catalog/produc...ategoryID=4284

Match these with some cute jewelry and shoes and check bra straps and hemlines, and I think you'd really stand out. Just check the measurements carefully against your own, since you'd be ordering online. Good luck!

For some reason the links don't work on FSUZeta's reply, but they work in the original post here http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...=1#post1965035

There is some cute, affordable stuff here.

ooh..thanks for having my back AXOadvisor ;).

gatorK130 08-08-2010 02:47 PM

Thank you so much for the help. I think I will go with a polo and skirt on the first day, do you think the brand would matter? I have a nice pink cotton polo from Hollister, would that do? Now I just need to find a dress for rounds 2 and 3 and a nice dress for prefs and I'll be good to go. I'll definitely check out that site. Thanks!

FSUZeta 08-08-2010 02:52 PM

i can only say that those girls, when they were pnms, wore RL polos.i don't know if it will matter.

we have a fabulous polo outlet just up the road from us in estero, so we can get polos for practically half off.

don't hesitate to print off those dress suggestions and take them with you when you go shopping. you don't have to get those particular dresses, just something very similar in style.

for instance, your white sandals look enough like the sandals hotpinkandpearls is thinking of wearing with a strapless sundress for her skit round, that i think you could pair them with something similar that you find where you live.

gatorK130 08-08-2010 02:54 PM

Oh thank you for posting those dresses! I just remembered a similar dress that I already own!! Now I just need to find it in my sister's closet and I should be good to go! Thanks :)

GatorGirl27 08-08-2010 03:03 PM

I wore shorts and a polo my first day of rush, and I was one of the few. A lot of girls wear sundresses every day (which is actually pretty smart, cause they're more comfortable and cool than shorts). Skirts are very common as well.

UF doesn't give out philanthropy round shirts. The UF website says to wear clothes that you don't want to get glue/paint on. Honestly, at a lot of the houses I barely even did the craft because I was so deep in conversation with my rusher. Most of the crafts (at least 2 years ago) were simple and involved neither paint nor glue.

I cannot agree more with what AXOrushadvisor said about tight clothes. Girls do not care about your cleavage. Look classy, and well covered. You don't want the only thing that the girl rushing you to remember is how tight your dress was.

For orientation, most people are pretty casual. You just meet your group and your Pi Chis. Bid Day, most people wear cute sundresses or a skirt and top. You do receive a bid day shirt, but usually no one wears them that night. Most chapters have their newest PC wear their bid day shirts the next day of classes, so everyone can show off their new girls :)

gatorK130 08-08-2010 03:10 PM

So, so far I'm going to wear:
day 1: a pink hollister polo with a white skirt (I need to buy a skirt though)
day 2: a teal and white sundress
day 3 (round 2): a green sundress with a brown bead detail, it's the one I just found :)
day 4: (round 3) I need to buy a dress, but I have silver heels to wear
prefs: I need to buy a dress, but I have black heels to wear (not the sky high ones I posted earlier, a different more conservative pair)

Everything I have planned so far is pretty perfect, I think. No more skin tight or high heels or anything. Thanks so much for the help! I'll probably buy the two dresses either tomorrow or Tuesday.

GatorBait 08-08-2010 03:24 PM

Personally, I would not go with Hollister, it's too "high school." A Ralph Lauren polo, like FSUZeta suggested, would be perfect :) Good luck, the rest of your outfits sound great!

gatorK130 08-08-2010 03:25 PM

Okay, I will rethink that then. Thanks for the input :)

Nanners52674 08-08-2010 04:21 PM

Please when buying skirts or dresses make sure you pay attention to the hem lines and sit down in them before buying to make sure you look appropriate when sitting.

And just in case you don't do this already, when crossing your legs wearing a skirt or dress (especially if it hits above the knee), please cross at the ankles!! Chances are, at some point, some people might be sitting on the floor while you're in a chair, and you don't want to inadvertently pull a Basic Instinct.

psst...the women rushing were born the same year Basic Instinct came out. :)

And have probably never seen it.

No one should ever be able to see your underwear or know if you're not wearing any.

Haha, yeah I've never seen that movie, but I'm guessing it means 'don't show your panties'. Which I won't! ;)

FSUZeta 08-08-2010 07:27 PM

i guess we could say,"don't pull a britney spears"?

That could mean a lot of things. Don't run to vegas for a 56 hour wedding. Don't shave your head. Don't marry your backup dancer...

Sorry about that.

I could have said "so that no one sees your cootch" but that sounded a bit raw. :p

haha-too true!! i was referring to her infamous "exit from the back seat of the car with no panties on" crotch shot.

Alumiyum 08-08-2010 09:59 PM

Also on the white skirt...nude underwear. Just go ahead and do it, even if you think it's well lined. I helped with recruitment last year and saw a girl's bright turquoise panties through her white skirt. And so did everyone else. Not a good look.

I just don't understand why some people don't bother to check for this before they walk out the door.

Yeah one time when I was 13 I made that mistake and showed the world my bright green panties. Terrifying experience. Never, ever again.

Well at least you were only 13. 18 and still not checking it, though...that's just strange. Haha

also, no thongs with a white skirt. i have seen too many butt cheeks jostling around underneath a white skirt-it is just disgusting, and believe me, you can tell they have on a thong.

I know right? (As it turns out, turquoise panties was known as Turquoise Panties throughout recruitment by my chapter at least one other that I know of, but she got a bid to her top choice anyway. Happy ending. :) )

mcdavis4 08-09-2010 03:44 PM

If you are on a tight budget and need nice brand name clothing you may want to consider looking at a few consignment shops. There are two, that I can think of right now in my city, that usually have last seasons clothes (with the original tags) from several of the top boutiques here. Instead of clearancing the items they take them to the consignment stores. I guess it looks better in the boutiques to NOT have a clearance rack! lol

Good Luck with recruitment!
