My Musical SEC Recruitment

I love music, so I figured I'd name the groups at my school after female artists in my iTunes library. (While I was going through them, I realized that a VAST majority of my artists are male... strange.) Also, if you know which school I'm attending, I'd appreciate keeping mum until recruitment ends. Thanks! Anyway, the chapters are:

Ke$ha
Lady Gaga
Beyonce
Diana Ross
Natasha Bedingfield
Joni Mitchell
Leona Lewis
Norah Jones
Regina Spektor
Fergie
Rihanna
Sarah McLachlan
Shakira
Taylor Swift
Madonna
Mariah Carey
Miley Cyrus

Recruitment starts really soon, and I'm so excited! I've got all my recs squared away, outfits picked out and tried on... the only thing left to do is pack up all my things and move in! Speaking of packing, I haven't even started; I should probably go work on that now. Thanks for reading!

Good Luck!

Ooohh great code names! Lots of luck to ya!

Miriverite 08-07-2010 04:42 AM

Great taste in music. Good luck with your recruitment!

pretty-in-pink 08-07-2010 05:08 AM

best of luck from a fellow PNM :) btw, I absolutely love that you have Regina Spektor on your list!

blueiris10 08-07-2010 09:44 AM

good luck! can't wait to read! :)

AZTheta 08-07-2010 10:50 AM

What? no Pink?

Then it's either Natasha Bedingfield or Leona Lewis for me.

Have NO idea what school you're at, don't care until the end of the story, makes it more fun for me that way. Have a great time, enjoy yourself, and good luck!

dgdramadawg 08-07-2010 11:10 AM

Just please don't go Ke$ha... unless Ke$ha is DG!

PNM1526 08-07-2010 12:29 PM

Thanks for the wishes! And I can't wait to read the stories of you fellow PNMs! I'll update later today with some background info... I still have so much to do in order to be able to move out of the house successfully! Haha. And as for Regina Spektor, she's amazing! I'm glad you like her, too. She has a really unique style and a beautiful voice.

33girl 08-07-2010 12:37 PM

Ha ha, Diana Ross is gonna kick Ke$ha's ass.

Good luck!!

Same. The lack of Pink saddens me!

PNM1526 08-07-2010 02:13 PM

Maybe I could swap Pink for Mariah Carey? I actually do have some Pink songs, but I guess I must've skipped over them... They probably got lost in all the Pink Floyd!

I'm only teasing ;) You can keep the names you've decided on!

Here's some background information about my Greek interactions thus far.

I'm the first in my immediate family to attempt to go Greek (I do have an uncle who was a fraternity man, but he lives far away from me. Not sure what GLO... Maybe Kappa Sigma?). My boyfriend is Greek at this school, and we've been dating for a long time. I went to some of his fraternity events and football games with him last year and through these met some Greek women. I also know some Greeks from other sources.
Here's the breakdown (all of these are at my particular school):

I know 2 girls who were Ke$has from church. I don't know these girls well, but they're both very friendly.
A girl from my high school went Norah Jones last year. She's very smart and is a total sweetheart.
At my boyfriend's fraternity formal, I met two Regina Spektors. I ended up hanging out for most of the time with these girls and their dates (and my boyfriend, of course). They were so, so kind to me and really made me feel included at an event where I hardly knew anyone.
My boyfriend's sister and older cousins are/were all Sarah McLachlans. I don't know his cousins well, but they're nice girls. His sister I know better, and she is very smart, fun, kind, and funny. I also met many of her Sarah McLachlan friends at her birthday parties in the past, and they all seemed fun and hilarious. Included in this group of friends was one Rihanna.
An acquaintance from my hometown is a Madonna.
My boyfriend's fraternity can most often be found with Mariah Careys. Although they mix with many sororities, this is the one that they hang out with most. Upon seeing these girls, the first thing I noticed was how STUNNINGLY gorgeous every single one of them is!

My boyfriend told me that from experiences with girls from different GLOs on campus, he sees 5 groups as most fitting my personality and values. He made it very clear that these are just HIS suggestions of places I could POTENTIALLY "click" with. He urged me to take a good look at every single group, and I'm heeding his advice. I'd love to be a part of any group, and I know I'd be lucky to get a bid to any house! With all that said, his suggestions for me were: Regina Spektor, Norah Jones, Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell, and Fergie.

That's all for now! If you see any of this as inappropriate/ imprudent to post, please let me know and I will remove it. Thank you!

OleMissGlitter 08-07-2010 03:37 PM

Good luck! Have fun!

Updates from round 1:

Ke$ha- These girls were super sweet, but I didn't quite feel comfortable here today.
Lady Gaga- I really liked these girls a lot. They seemed very genuine, and I'd love to go back here.
Beyonce- These girls were nice, but I felt sort of awkward here. They had a very cute song though.
Diana Ross- I liked these girls. They were very sweet and seemed genuine. Their house is beautiful!
Natasha Bedingfield- These girls have a gorgeous house and seem really nice and involved, but I didn't feel like I had a great conversation here.
Joni Mitchell- They were really sweet and seemed to have some things in common with me.
Leona Lewis- These girls were energetic and fun. I liked it here. All the girls were gorgeous and well dressed.
Norah Jones- I loved this house! The girls were all sweethearts and kind, calm, and seemed very genuine.
Regina Spektor- These girls were friendly and genuine. I loved this house also.
Fergie- I liked this house a lot, and the girls were sweet. Again, beautiful house.
Rihanna- All these girls were very pretty and fun. I liked this house a ton.
Sarah McLachlan- This house was SO MUCH FUN. I loved it here and met so many girls. I felt super comfortable.
Shakira- I really liked these girls. The conversation I had seemed very real, and the girls came off as sweet and genuine. I walked out of this house glowing.
Taylor Swift- I talked to a really nice girl and felt that the conversation went well. I felt comfortable here and really liked it.
Madonna- These were gorgeous girls. I liked this house.
Mariah Carey- I really liked this house. I felt like I clicked with the girls, and they were super sweet.
Miley Cyrus- This house was okay. All the girls were pretty and nice, but my conversation lagged a little and I didn't quite feel comfortable here.

Sorry a lot of the descriptions are the same and are short, but we spent a very limited amount of time at each house and it's hard to form opinions when you visit so many houses for so short of a time. I'll update later about second round!!

perfectinpurple 08-14-2010 03:44 PM

Sounds like you had a good time overall! Can't wait for more updates, don't keep me waiting to long! :p Good luck with the rest of recruitment!!

*winter* 08-14-2010 04:18 PM

Yay Joni Mitchell! Love your names BTW. Good luck!

dgdramadawg 08-14-2010 04:54 PM

Seems like you had a good time at most of the houses... can't wait to hear about round 2!

I think those descriptions were fine. And it's great to see that you seem to be open to all the houses and really enjoyed yourself at so many! :)
Continued luck!

Round 2

We had round 2, house tours, and I was kind of disappointed because I only had 6 invites out of a possible 12, and lots of my favorites didn't invite me back. However, I did have houses that I really really liked.

Ke$ha: I felt more comfortable here today and felt like I connected a little better with the girl I talked to. The rooms in the house were super cute, and again all the girls were super sweet.
Diana Ross: I liked this house today. The girl who showed me around was really nice and caring. The house is so pretty, and I can tell the girls are close.
Natasha Bedingfield: These girls were sweet and had ADORABLE rooms. The girls are really involved around campus, and I felt more comfortable than the previous day.
Regina Spektor: I really liked this house!! They have really fun events and all the girls were sweet. I also feel comfortable here.
Rihanna: I loved this house! I had a very chill girl that I felt I had a really good conversation with. This house is gorgeous, and all the girls are beautiful.
Sarah McLachlan: This is my favorite house at this point. It was so so great and really fun! I talked to a girl I felt I had a ton in common with, and the rooms are adorable!! I felt really comfortable here, and the drinks they served were one of my favorites. Haha.

PNM1526 08-16-2010 03:47 PM

Round 3

This round was skit/ philanthropy day!! I was sad to lose some houses I really liked, but I went back to some good ones, including my favorite!!

Ke$ha- These girls are really close, and I can tell they really support each other and their philanthropy, but I still didn't feel comfortable here. The girls really tried hard on the skit, and I smiled through it, but I didn't find it funny.

Diana Ross- I'm starting to like this house more than before. These girls are sweet and close, had a funny skit, and really try hard to support their philanthropy. Their philanthropy video was really touching, and some of the sisters were crying. It was very sweet.

Natasha Bedingfield- I really liked this house today. These girls were sweet and really support their philanthropy. Their skit was hilarious and themed after a tv show I love. I can tell these girls are close.

Sarah McLachlan- This skit was soooo funny!! They have really fun events to support their philanthropy, too. This house is so fun, and I loved the girl I was paired with for this round. Also, their snack was one of my favorite foods... it's like these girls can read my mind! Haha. The only thing I'm worried about is if I keep getting invited back just because of my boyfriend's sister... I feel like these girls really like me; they seem to, but I want to be sure. Anyway, I'll update again later!

IrishLake 08-16-2010 08:20 PM

Prefs

These are the houses I went to for pref round.

Ke$ha: This ceremony was really sweet and I felt the connection between these girls more than ever. I still can't really see myself in this house and don't really feel like myself here.

Diana Ross: This was a little different than the other houses because I was not paired up with a girl I met earlier in the week. I did like the girl I got though, and I felt like we clicked. We talked about fun and silly topics, but not really about sisterhood or the sorority. I like this house and might could see myself fitting in here.

Sarah McLachlan: I talked to the girls I met earlier in the week that I really loved. We had really good conversations about choosing a house and about how they felt about me. I told them that I felt that I could just be myself here, and they said that they felt I would be such an asset to the house and that they could tell that I really fit. I felt really at home here. Then my boyfriend's sister came to talk to me, and I was paired with her for the ceremony. We had a good talk and she told me I was there for a reason and that she was just one person and didn't want me to think that I was being invited back just because of her (addressing my previous worry). The ceremony was heartwarming and I left this house thrilled and hoping to join their sisterhood!

I ranked the houses:
1. Sarah McLachlan
2. Diana Ross
3. Ke$ha

Bid Day

So I didn't get a call on the morning of bid day, which I assumed meant I had a bid!! I was still really nervous and excited and hoped it was from Sarah McLachlan. The classes took my mind off it for awhile, but I started to get antsy after my classes ended, so I put in my favorite movie and watched it for awhile before getting ready. Then I got dressed and went to see which bid I would get. Our recruitment councilors revealed their affiliations (I guessed mine's correctly the first day. Haha.) and then put us in circles and placed bid cards in our hands. I was sooooo nervous and excited. They counted down and once they reached one I turned around to see a bid card from...

SARAH MCLACHLAN, otherwise known as
CHI OMEGA!!!!!

I was so, so SOOOOO happy! And, it turned out that two other girls in my group were new Chi O's, too!! I had such a great recruitment and am thrilled to be a baby hooty!

dgdramadawg 08-20-2010 01:27 PM

Congrats!!! You really seemed to love "Sarah" from the start, so the ending couldn't have been more perfect!

arrowlady 08-20-2010 03:11 PM

Congrats to you! So happy to see you get your favorite!

twinkle555 08-20-2010 03:22 PM

Oh, geez, sorry!! I was trying to write while talking to my mom, and we talked about my brother for a bit. I guess I just wrote the wrong thing! Haha. Whoops!
