My nerdy recruitment story
Hello, everyone!
Along with the other PNMs on GC, I have been preparing for my university's sorority recruitment. At the moment, there isn't much more I can do to prepare (aside from reading the lovely advice here) as I'm nearly two weeks away but, I thought as a way to settle my nerves I would set up my story. In the interest of discretion I will have a day or two delay between the actual sets and when I post their description but, as I plan to write down my thoughts each night anyway, I figured I would share and contribute to the resources PNMs have here on GC. Of course, I will be using different names for each chapter at my school, and since I am a huge Harry Potter nerd, it seems fitting to use some of my favorite characters as a way to refer to each chapter. They are: Harry Ron Hermione Luna Neville Ginny Hagrid Mrs. Weasley Sirius Lupin Dumbledore |
Looking forward to reading your story!
|
dang it! I was going to use HP for my recruitment story haha. hmm now to think of another one... :) Good luck cad2010! can't wait to hear your story! I'm pulling for Hermione!
|
Thanks AzTheta :). Haha, sorry prettygirlie--I guess I beat you to the punch, no harm meant I promise. Who knows, Hermione could be it, considering I haven't assigned the names yet and have been very careful in regards to silly gossip about the chapters.
|
YESSSSSSS I love the code names! I am such a Harry Potter fan
|
I'm also going through soon :) As (yet another) HP fan, I definitely approve of the names! (Much better than Twilight ;) ;) )
eta: If anybody likes Twilight, I was just joking, and please don't take offense. I merely poke fun at the eternal HP-Twilight rivalry. |
Well, I'm glad you approve ;) I've always thought that rivalry was bizarre, the two don't have anything in common, except for crazy fans and RPattison.

ETA: Just kidding..UFGirl12 just did that lol |
What! No Snape?!
In that case, I'll have to cheer for Luna. Looking forward to your story! |

but back to cad's recruitment-- keep us posted girl! (: |
Yes-- except they both want to be 'the best.' Try lasting at LEAST 100 years and continue to be a widely-read novel, eh? Then we'll talk. :p
(I know most people don't like The Odyssey as much as me, but what can I say-- guilty pleasure!) Anyway, I'm glad that others are also posting their stories. So I'm not the only one positively terrified by the possibility of not receiving a bid, right? |

i love the HP theme!!! us nerdy girls gotta stick together. good luck with rush and try not to freak out too much! i have a really good friend going through rush at k-state as a freshman this year, and apparently theirs starts pretty early.
|
I pick Lupin!
|
Good Luck! I'm rooting for Hermione!
|
No Fred and George? :(
Good luck! |
I love this theme! Best of luck to you :)
|
aephi alum, I originally had Fred and George, but I realized I wanted to put Hagrid in there and would have to take one of them out--I couldn't decide so I got rid of the twins. And, yes, no Snape, he ended up being wonderful but he isn't a favorite.
Oh, but in regards to Twilight vs HP. HP was on the AP English Literature test 2 times since it's publication, Twilight was not ;)...I hope it's still around in 100 years, or even the next 50, so it can be up there with Frankenstein and those other classic "fantasy" novels. It'd be awesome if it lasted as long as Homer's writings have--I love Greek mythology. And, yeah, I am terrified of not getting a bid, but it's a risk I'm more than willing to take. |
Wicked pumped for this.
Someday can someone do a Dr. Who story? That would be the ultimate nerd. |
LOL, I have never seen Dr. Who. :o
Was it really? I love HP, but AP English Literature it is not. At least, not yet... in my opinion. I may be undereducated as that was not a class I took, but I thought it was supposed to focus on 'classic literature.' But then again, I'm about to hop off my classic-lit high horse, so what do I know? :p Yeah, I started asking myself, 'Is the chance of not getting a bid at all a worse outcome than not rushing in the first place?' I think I'd rather just go through and try to be optimistic though! I know you're going to delay posting a bit, but you only have 2 or 3 weeks left, right? (You don't have to say specifically, or it might give too many hints.) |

My H adores Dr. Who ... I'll watch it with him, but not really a hardcore fan.
|
No, it's not what is generally accepted as "literature" currently, but I can see it going the way of Narnia or Lord of the Rings (or so I hope, either way my kids will be familiar with HP haha). I think it's an excellent example of storytelling for late 20th/early 21 C. Many of what we consider books of literary merit started off as "dime" novels, that were not widely respected at all.
I asked myself the same thing--I didn't want to be wondering, "what if?". Yeah I have about two weeks to go, I'm trying to figure out all of my clothes still, I keep changing my mind...I may have to make a stop to Diagon Alley to grab some shoes or robes you know ;). I've heard great things about Dr. Who, I'll watch it eventually, maybe over break, I have too many shows to follow as it is. |
That's true, cad! I would love to see them become 'our generation's' Narnia. I think that they are truly great stories, haha! At any rate, I thought it was a truly inspired theme ;)
Glad to know that I'm not the only one still buying shoes! LOL! |

Dr. Who had had 26 companions? I feel like that would make sense if I followed the show. And if 11 people have played him I guess he really is a Who.
|
I'm liking Dumbledore and Ron. The old guy and the ginger have always been excellent.
|
Since I can never pick an actual favorite, I'll pick two characters I absolutely adore!
Go Hagrid and Ginny! |
Lupin all the way, fellow nerd.
Ooooh...or Mollywobbles. (Mrs. Weasley) |

Oh well, guess I'll name a dog or cat that in the future and call her that. :D |

I'll shut up now and let you get back to your rush story. :) |
No no, he's not Who.
He's just The Doctor. Classic rookie mistake ;) |
Gee and I thought I was the only one who liked the Doctor ...
now back to your regularly scheduled recruitment thread .. really looking forward to hearing how it goes .. good luck .. one piece of advice .. if you get new shoes .. be sure to wear them a bit first to make sure they are comfortable to walk in you'll probably be doing alot of walking between chapters and nothing's worse then having blisters or hurting feet. |
^Do you think that getting new shoes at this point is a bad idea?

I mean, I'm planning in bringing a little first aid kit with me cause every day that something important is to happen I either get a migraine or something.. So migraine pills, band-aids and sunscreen. :D |
I heard that we won't be able to bring our purses, so I am going to have to plan very carefully to make sure all my emergency supplies fit into the bag they give us. Then again I am sure the RC's will have some things, too?
Thank you for the shoe advice! :) I tend to forget things like that. I'll have to start wearing mine :) |
at my school, we supposedly get a gallon sized bag for our things...
and shoes-wise, I just need some for pref, I'm all set (and comfortable) for the other days |

'Cause I got an amazing image of a group of girls walking around holding trash bags. Ha ha. |
