You want what???

Irony at it's finest. The other chapter on my campus has asked to allow my chapter to be allowed to give a legacy a bid prior to recruitment because they don't want her to attend their recruitment parties.

Welcome to our world. For YEARS we've had to entertain ladies [prior to total/quota and party cuts] that you've bid promised all summer, and who had bad attitudes and brought a negative atmosphere into our parties...

It really would serve you right to have someone sit in your party with the attitude that your hand picked before recruitment even began [P]NMs have done to us all these years.

And really, if it's that big a deal, panhellenic allows our campus to cut prior to pref now. You can cut her after round 1. Duh. It won't kill you to deal with her for one night.

33girl 07-30-2010 08:05 PM

So in other words, this legacy is such a total bitch that they don't think she can get through one party without being rude and turning off other rushees? If so, why would you guys bid such a person, legacy or not? (I'm assuming you're under total and can do this, if not, that's yet another problem.)

You need to call your CPH area advisor immediately. To even ask for this sort of thing is so beyond the pale I can hardly believe it's real.

I honestly don't know what this legacy's attitude is like. I don't know if the other chapter is making something out of nothing because she is a legacy, (which is rare at my school), or if she is, as you described, a brat.

fantASTic 07-30-2010 08:13 PM

DO NOT allow this. No way. You haven't even met her!

Drolefille 07-30-2010 11:16 PM

I'd get them to explain their reasoning, in full. And then decline to offer the bid. At least then you might get insight into WTF is in their heads.

Xidelt 07-30-2010 11:44 PM

Wait a minute.

While all of the NPC member groups agree to abide by unanimous agreements, each sorority is still an autonomous organization that functions independently of the others.

Recruitment is a process of mutual selection for both PNMs and current sisters.

The actual member selection process of each of the 26 NPC sororities is considered private ritual information.

The other chapter on campus wants to tell you to whom and when a bid should be offered. And you have not even met this person yet.

So they are basically superseding your ritual?

Riiight....

KSUViolet06 07-30-2010 11:48 PM

I'd let your advisors know, just so they can think WTF just like you're thinking.

Then tell them no.

Either way, even if this other chapter's request that you be allowed to give her a bid before recruitment starts is granted, that doesn't mean your chapter HAS to give her a bid before recruitment starts.

SWTXBelle 07-31-2010 08:14 AM

Was this an "official" request from the whole chapter, or just one member's suggestion? I can't believe an alumna advisor would okay this - it's wrong on so many levels.

jennyj87 07-31-2010 03:43 PM

I'm confused on how this is even possible.

FleurGirl 07-31-2010 06:44 PM

WOW.
I highly doubt they can make you give her a bid though.
But still.
WOW.

I don't think they are trying to make them give her a bid; but, yeah, wow on the fact that that other chapter is so cavalier as to assume that Stargazer's chapter would automatically bid her sight unseen.

I'm thinking maybe a group of girls got together and thought this was a good idea and that the advisors/national has no idea this was even done. It reminds me of the time one of our members called the President of another sorority (unbeknown to us) and ask if we could trade one of our PNM's for a PNM that the other sorority got. Not kidding it happened!

If she improves herself, can a Top Tier sorority call up a girl from a Third Tier sorority?

I would HOPE.

But I wouldn't lay $$ on it.

Based on what I think I've heard from this poster/chapter before, I'd bet advisors are in on it, but HQ probably doesn't ask the right questions or get told the right things to get informed.

BabyPiNK_FL 08-01-2010 01:14 AM

I don't even think they should recognize this request with an answer. If they don't want to bid her, they are not obligated to bid her, but they should not even presume that they are able to dictate your recruitment, membership selection, or anything of that nature. They should just do what they need to do and if there are consequences to that, accept them. Their problem is most certainly not yours.

And if Great on Paper Gretchen turns out to be lame, does she go on the DL list?

Oh, we're not. We (I'm an alumna, it's the CA who told me of this request) had a pretty good laugh about this. If they EVEN think it's happening, they are mistaken. If the actives of my chapter want her, then they'll go after her. How dare they think they are doing us a favor by "letting us have one early." B*tches.

I will reiterate - you alums and the advisor need to contact the CPH area advisor yesterday. This campus environment sounds beyond toxic and obviously the Greek life advisor isn't doing jack squat - the fact that these girls think they can actually make such a request shows that. There's such a thing as relaxed rules but this is ridiculous.

No bids for Gretchen Wieners!
