GC would never guess that...

Ok, you people are boring me today, so time for a new thread.

What would GC be surprised to know about you? Maybe something that wouldn't seem to fit with your normal GC persona.

Mine: I always wanted to be a cheerleader in Jr High/High School, but I was too scared to try out for the team. I didn't take many gymnastics classes as a child, and I had always heard that you had to at least have a standing backflip to make the team, so I never tried.

DrPhil 07-30-2010 12:11 PM

I was Joan of Arc in my former life.

Miriverite 07-30-2010 12:58 PM

I have an incurable obsession with Pokemon games...

It's harder to do now, but I can put my ankles behind my head.

Apparently I never told anyone that I minored in Theology while in college.

It's on my resume and of all the job interviews I've had, only my most recent potential employer asked me about it. I took a bunch of Theology classes because I had questions about the world and the nature of things and because I had gone to public schools all my life, I knew college would be a good time to make those inquiries. I almost became Muslim during that period, but in later years, I discovered that my personal religious views are most aligned with the Quakers.

So I guess if you had no idea about my religious journey from Baptist to almost-Muslim to kinda-Quaker, you wouldn't have known about the Theology minor.

jennyj87 07-30-2010 02:20 PM

I'm a HUGE "Doctor Who" fan. I made the mistake of secretly watching one of the final episodes of season 4 in the office and was crying. It was awkward with my coworkers.

tld221 07-30-2010 02:27 PM

I'm a little obsessive about the NYC subways and buses. For some reason I like knowing about service advisories, subway line histories, changes in routes, etc...

I try to take public transit in every other major city to compare. I've ridden the T a couple times in Boston and a bus in Miami once. have yet to hit the DC metro or any of the Philly lines. The one time I went to LA, the people I was with wouldnt DARE let me take LA public transit. It was forbidden.

I love the DC metro. Best looking stations I've seen.

^^^I said it was like going into MIB headquarters the first time I rode. :p

I was an Emo kid in high school, though "Emo" wasn't a word back then so we were lumped with the Goth kids. Yes, all black, greasy hair, the whole nine. I was very into spiritual exploration and whatnot. Part of that was exploring lots of religions to see where I fit and I almost converted to Wicca. Even though I'd been raised with Christian values, I was terrified that I'd spend my whole life believing in a God that wasn't there or didn't exist in the way I'd always believed.

LikeASista 07-30-2010 03:29 PM

Uh, ... I'm a virgin ... :o

I assumed that if I held on to my virtue that some knight in shining armor would sweep me off my feet, and I'd live happily ever after. Well, now I'm 37 and not even dating anyone ... :(

preciousjeni 07-30-2010 03:57 PM

I am severely phobic about ticks (not "dicks" as people think I say in person). I may have actually mentioned it before on GC, but it's bad enough to mention again.

I would go to the ER if I had a tick on me.

I also have a story about supernumerary nipples, but I don't think GC is ready for that.

Same here.

Been for awhile. My grandparents were Quaker, but my parents aren't.

Create a new sect?

Well the new "asshole" sect would probably put it in line with mainstream Christianity.

I struggle with my "Quakerness" due to money/possessions usually.

But yeah, my grandparents were from a line of Quakers which went back as far as Penn.

(I became Quaker through Tolstoy's book "The Kingdom of God is Within You".)

I was thinking, "being an asshole when people deserve it but not because their beliefs differ from yours sect." But I do see the point.

One of my coworkers is part of an awesome group... they placed in a recent ABDC & likely would have won if it weren't for the fact that they were a B-Boy group (which ABDC was getting flack for). But seriously... awesome to watch. Those guys can do some ridiculous things!

I was a cheerleader in highschool all four years, and for two years in college. I posted that a few years ago, but I guess most people wouldn't think a cheerleader would like scorpions, spiders, bugs and fruit bats.:o:)

whiteandblack 07-30-2010 08:57 PM

I am very generous with my time. if I'm not doing community service on a regular basis, I get antsy.

MUSK81 07-30-2010 10:54 PM

I was obsessed with Scooby-Doo from second to fourth grade and wanted to be Velma.

KSUViolet06 07-30-2010 11:29 PM

I was prom queen and 9th in my graduating class (of 120ish).

I graduated HS at 17.

I had very close to a full-ride in undergrad. (like 90%)

I moved to Ohio at 13, in November and proceeded to go to my new school wearing a windbreaker thinking it wasn't that cold.

ya'll just got trumped by Violet here. quite the rap sheet. brava.

Oh GC, you'd be surprised to know that I still sleep with my childhood stuffed animal every night. (embarrassing, I know.)

PiKA2001 07-31-2010 12:09 AM

I had cosmetic surgery (lipo) when I was younger and obsessed about my physique. I wish I had used that five grand to go to Europe or something worthwhile.

Leslie Anne 07-31-2010 12:18 AM

Oh, hey, I had cosmetic surgery too. I had a "nose job" when I was 14.

I still have my "blankie" and sleep with it.

I actually know a lot of people my age still with that situation (blankie, stuffed animal, etc from childhood). I honestly am claiming to it be a generational thing.

I agree! It was too young. My nose is now too narrow for my face. I can't believe my parents let me do that at 14. It really was an awful nose though. Totally Jimmy Durante.

^^^Like.

I have an amateur radio license. Got it when I did hikes and backpacks in CO and here in AZ. No cell service where we went (still isn't any). People literally stare gape-jawed when they learn those facts (I've backpacked, and I'm a ham).

I did the same thing until I was in graduate school. My first job out of undergrad was an extremely bad experience and holding on to something comfy helped me fall asleep at night.

(I think I've posted this before but it was many years ago)--I got picked up by the FBI.

AGDee 07-31-2010 09:42 AM

when I was 16, I dated a 19 year old who had been kicked out of the military for marijuana possession, made a living by stealing cigarettes and selling them on the black market and who stole snow blowers before every big storm, use them to clear snow for money and then sell them. Turned out he had a warrant out for his arrest. Thankfully he broke up with me when his ex-girlfriend turned up and he went to live with her and THEIR two year old son (who he never managed to tell me existed). It surprises even me that I went out with that guy.

ETA: I just realized that my daughter is the age that I was when I was seeing him. OMG!!!!!!!!!!

Dee...hate to tell you, but with your dating track record, this isn't all THAT surprising to GC. Just kidding.:p:p;);)
