Project Runway - Season 8

Apparently Season 8 starts tonight on Lifetime (fiance is the one that let me know, wtf?).

This season's episodes are 90 minutes long, and it appears they've dropped the 30 minute show about the models. However, some show called "On the Road with Austin and Santino" is premiering tonight in it's place.

I'm just hoping to be a little more wowed this time around.

NinjaPoodle 07-29-2010 06:40 PM

Thanks for posting this. I will be tuning in.

DrPhil 07-29-2010 06:41 PM

I will be watching it. I wasn't going to but then I saw the dramatic commercial/preview. The episode better be as dramatic.

Kappamd 07-29-2010 10:50 PM

Thank you, Lifetime, for bringing Austin and Santino back to TV.

KSUViolet06 07-30-2010 01:44 AM

I love the longer episodes now.

groovypq 07-30-2010 10:53 AM

Me too. I thought it would drag, but it went by just as quickly!

DrPhil 07-30-2010 12:14 PM

I thought they were going to send the final 3 home. I guess it's good that the mother of the 9 month old got sent home.

I didn't think her dress was THAT terrible. I thought the guy who had his $2,000 D&G pants shredded should have gone home. I really don't know what his design was.

indygphib 07-30-2010 01:58 PM

I think Casanova got saved because of his trainwreck potential. WTF was that rag that he made last night?

Kappamd 07-30-2010 05:00 PM

^^^Ditto. The trainwreck always makes it past the first episode. Even so, I would have sent Ivy home before dreadlock girl. Those pants were pretty terrible.

psusue 07-30-2010 05:06 PM

Haha I thought they'd save like maybe 2-3 people and then the rest would go home. I have to admit, I was kind of disappointed when only one person went home. I say them out now so we have an actually interesting season. Other than that, just can't wait for the new episodes. Oh and I LOVE having Santino back on TV. I may have a bit of a crush on him.

Leslie Anne 07-31-2010 11:56 PM

I missed the show so I had to download it from iTunes. Glad it's back on but I wasn't wowed by any of the first designs. I can't find the show with Santino. I guess I'll try to catch it next week.

A comment and a couple of questions

Having only seen the last two sets of "Runway," I could be wrong but I think Ms. Klum and company is more concerned about television viewership than any fashion talent.

I have seen a lot worse than what the young woman who was dismissed created. I would bet that her story line is weaker than either Ivy's or Casanova's, both of whom seem to be "drama queens" of the highest level. I suspect both will be around for a few episodes to create "artistic tension" before getting eliminated.

I also though Ms. Klum was a bit testy when eliminating the young woman. Usually Heidi is nicer and shows bit a of compassion (rare for a reality show).

A couple of questions: is Michael Kors really a major designer? I have heard of Ralph Lauren and Liz Claiborne, but until "Runway," I never heard of Kors.

Is Marie Claire a major fashion magazine? I know of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, I even know Women's Wear Daily. I thought of Marie Claire as just another women's magazine on the shelf at Border's or Barnes and Noble's.

AOII_LB93 08-01-2010 01:56 PM

I would say Kors is a major fashion designer, but that's just me. I love his shoes and purses, and some of his clothing, but not all.

As for Marie Claire, I would also say major, moreso IMO than Women's Wear Daily...that's not one I've ever picked up.

AOII Angel 08-01-2010 02:57 PM

Michael Kors is certainly a major designer. Marie Claire is a middle level magazine, but Nina Garcia moved to that magazine just a few seasons ago. She originally worked for Elle. I think Marie Claire is hoping that she can bring them up to Elle's level.

I agree that McKell was a victim of her boring personality rather than her garment. Cassanova and Ivy lived to see another challenge because they'll create drama, not because they have any talent.

PeppyGPhiB 08-02-2010 02:28 AM

If you don't know that Michael Kors is a major designer, sorry, but you don't know anything about fashion. He is a huge American designer, and is known for being the fav of Heidi Klum.

Marie Claire is a major women's magazine, but it is different from Elle. Elle is a fashion magazine whereas Marie Claire is a women's interest magazine. They have a lot of fashion in it, but it also focuses on entertainment, world/women's issues and more. I subscribe to it and think it's a very well done mag. I can't stand pubs like Cosmopolitan that treat their readers like nympho idiots.

DrPhil 08-05-2010 10:28 PM

Gretchen kicks ass twice in a row. :D

I'm glad Jason(?) was kicked off because he sucks and was annoying. How did he even get on the show?

I'm sad that Nicholas was kicked off. :( He was a sweetie with potential. His tears almost made me cry. :(

sceniczip 08-06-2010 03:27 PM

Jason was so odd so I'm happy he's gone. Nicholas made me so sad :(

I'm happy Peach was saved because I really like watching her :) I hated her design but I just think she's so fun!

I liked Valerie's design better so I wish she had won but Gretchen's was good too though I'd never wear it.

gee_ess 08-06-2010 08:03 PM

I liked the red dress the best...

Tonight was my first night with the new season. I have been busy!

So glad the model show is no longer airing but I did detect some unhappiness from Peach with her model.

AOII Angel 08-06-2010 09:04 PM

Thank GOD Jason is gone!

I don't miss the model show, but I do miss the little model-picking routine that would happen before each challenge. I'm hoping they bring that back (especially if they have 90 minutes!) once the crowd gets whittled down a bit more.

Benzgirl 08-08-2010 01:04 PM

I'm on Team Valerie.

KSUViolet06 08-14-2010 03:01 PM

I'm late and catching up on the DVR.

First of all, yay for Betsey.

I loved Michael and Valerie this time.

I also am waiting for Casanova to go. lol.

PS. Also wondering who Gretchen thinks she is?

tnxbutterfly 08-14-2010 03:24 PM

I really thought they would let Sarah stay and Cassonova go. Yea Sarah's dress was boring and I bet she's kicking herself for having taken Gretchen's "helpful" advice. Cassonova's "dress" was a big of trainwreck.

I'm liking new Austin and Santino show. The second episode was shot at my alma mater Louisiana Tech.:D

sceniczip 08-14-2010 05:58 PM

I thought Gretchen was a little full of herself this week and her dress thing made me think of a cheerleader.

Leslie Anne 08-15-2010 01:29 AM

I didn't like Gretchen's design at all. I thought Valerie should have won both of the challenges. I think they're keeping Casanova purely for the  factor.

ASUADPi 08-16-2010 08:28 AM

So far my faves are definately Gretchen and Valerie.

Casanova, well he needs a reality check of some kind and should have gone home already.

As for the 90 minutes, don't really care. Quite honestly I watch the beginning for the challenge, shopping for the fabric and then I usually FF to the end to the runway show. Them bickering over stupid crap, well I know it makes for good reality TV, but I just wanna see the final design and who gets booted.

naraht 08-16-2010 09:19 AM

Fuzzy Animal Balls...

My wife and I *still* giggle about this.

Meh. It was kinda interesting.

Agreed.

groovypq 08-16-2010 05:17 PM

I thought they were going to keep Sarah in addition to Casanova. There was a whole lot of pause before Heidi said she was out.

I wonder, with the health issue at the end... will someone drop out and Sarah be brought back and the big pause was foreshadowing?

DaffyKD 08-16-2010 07:40 PM

If I remember right, Ivy (I think I have the right woman) was complaining that she did not feel well during the challenge. At first I thought that it was the fumes from the hot glue. Now, I wonder if she is actually pregnant.

Questions About Mood

Is Mood, which supplies fabrics and notions for the contestants, a national chain? Are the Mood stores open to regular shoppers or are they limited only to trade? Is Mood similar to JoAnn Fabrics or Minnesota Fabric stores?

KSUViolet06 08-20-2010 12:01 AM

I loved: Valerie, Michael, and Ivy.

Peach's dress was cute, but I don't think it went with the hat.

April's shorts looked crazy.

sceniczip 08-20-2010 08:36 AM

Would anybody honestly wear April's shorts? I thought they were atrocious!

They weren't shorts, they were underwear. I was like "holy god".

Amicus 08-20-2010 09:29 PM

A question for the women in the forum: be honest, would you really wear any of Treacy's hats?

I did think that Mr. Treacy is a gentleman.

Amicus 08-20-2010 09:31 PM

Thanks, Naraht!

I'm not a big hat person so I'd say no. If I was going to the Kentucky Derby though and wanted something super cool I might look into one.

sceniczip 08-26-2010 10:12 PM

omg I am so sick of listening to Gretchen's excuses!

ETA: I loved Tim going off on them. That was great.
