TV Show Recommendations?

Alright I've finally started The West Wing. I've heard good things about The Wire, but what other "must watch" TV shows do you recommend?

MUSK81 07-28-2010 05:27 PM

You've got to check out Mad Men (Sundays at 10 on AMC) and Soutland (when it returns in December on TNT).

I'm obsessive about starting shows at the beginning so I'll have to request get the first season of Mad Men first :p

I can't remember if I watched Southland or not, probably means I should try again.

Echo the recommendations for Mad Men and Southland. Add Breaking Bad to the list!

Oh is BB the one with the teacher selling drugs?

indygphib 07-28-2010 07:45 PM

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is hysterically funny!

He's a chemistry teacher who turned to making (and selling) meth - really, really high quality meth made in steel tanks - as a way of paying for his cancer treatments. You can imagine the side stories from there. The acting is REALLY good and so are the storylines.

Sweet, added to my list. Between the Library, for now, and the Netflix, in the future, I should be good to go :D

Not that I don't want more ideas!

gee_ess 07-28-2010 10:34 PM

Do you watch Glee?

Drolefille 07-28-2010 10:41 PM

I do!

TY for the suggestions everyone, please keep them coming. Particularly for shows that are out on DVD now too. My mom's posessive of her DVR so I'm keeping the current stuff to Hulu.

MysticCat 07-28-2010 10:42 PM

I'm liking The Glades.

It's on A&E. Cop from Chicago who lost his job because he was having an affair with his chief's wife ("well, so was everyone else at the station") ends up in South Florida (the Everglades). Has kind of an Elmore Leonard feel to it, with a great main character. I think there have been 3 episodes so far.

ThetaDancer 07-28-2010 11:21 PM

The Wire really is as good as everyone says it is.

And I adore Weeds.

MUSK81 07-29-2010 08:34 AM

My husband and teenage sons love "Always Sunny" ... pure escapist fare.

pomplemousse12 07-29-2010 08:50 AM

I really liked the first episode of Covert Affairs (free on itunes whee!) and whenever I get home I'll see if it's on hulu and start watching it again. I also really like Royal Pains, Bones, Top Chef, and True Blood. Oh and the Big Bang Theory! Those are my favorites :)

Drolefille 07-29-2010 08:54 AM

Duh BONES! I've watched the first season on Hulu but would really like to watch the others.

And Big Bang Theory is win.

pomplemousse12 07-29-2010 09:00 AM

The other seasons are so good! They're available for instant watch on Netflix (that's how I've been watching them) and I'm so addicted. I was so upset when I found out I couldn't get Netflix Instant Watch in France.

I bet you could if you went through a proxy... hmm

pomplemousse12 07-29-2010 09:27 AM

Yeah, but since I'm coming back to the States tomorrow there's no point anymore. It's on my list of things to do/eat/watch as son as I get back though!

agzg 07-29-2010 10:08 AM

I love Weeds. It streams instantly on Netflix.

I will second for royal pains, covert affairs and bones. I would also suggest White Collar, which is currently on it's second season and leverage which is on it's third I believe season.

Drolefille 07-29-2010 11:42 AM

What's Covert Affairs?

Also I added BSG to my list.

Psi U MC Vito 07-29-2010 11:58 AM

Covert is a new show on USA. It's on it's 3 episode I believe. It is a about a girl who is a brand new recruit to the CIA. Good blend of action and comedy in my opinion.

ETA: All three episodes are currently on USAnetwork.com.

ms_gwyn 07-29-2010 01:09 PM

The Glades...it sounds like Justified...which is really good...and Justified is based on Elmore Leonard
