I'll be following Bama and Kentucky this year.
Would it be possible to start an Alabama 2010 thread by somone in the know? Recruitment starts August 8 and it looks like another huge class of PNM's. I attended UK, and this year I'm writing alot of recs for my daughters friends attending there. I'm really stressing to them that they get them for all houses. None of them have Greek family members. All are great girls. I'll post results after recruitment. Recruitment at UK is August 14-20. |
I'm hearing that Arkansas' sorority recruitment is the largest ever.
|
Ole Miss' sorority recruitment is going to pretty big this year too. Not sure of numbers yet but I'm going to say quota will be in the 90s this year. PNMs will have until around the 2nd week in September to sign up. Enrollment is up a bit but I never rely on the numbers until school starts in August.
|
Good luck to all pnm! And even more to the actives who are starting up now!!
|
Arkansas recruitment is huge this year! We are expanding to 5 days of rush instead of 4. We will have open parties Monday afternoon-night and all day Tuesday.

Where is the thread where we report where our recs end up pledging?

I feel sorry for you ladies, it is way too hot out there. (of course, guys have it just as hard, except I don't think we sit outside as much, it's more go go go go, if I remember right) |

I'm worried about my voice lasting for the extra day. I heard girls were hoarse by the 2nd and 3rd day. But at the same time I'm very excited (and nervous) to be on the other side this year! Hopefully the AC in all the houses will be turned on high and luckily last year we were housed at the BCM and UBC during parties, although that walk all the way from the top at XO to the bottom of KD can be killer! Hopefully they'll have more buses running this year!

Of course, the guys are mostly drunk during theirs (shhh! don't tell Parice), which I think makes you lose your voice much quicker. Whiskey does the weirdest things. My voice was done for after the first round of parties (2nd day) every year for three years. Screamin and yelling and running around will do that to a man. Shoot, I think I lost it early on as a rushee. |

A word to all those looking for recs - if you know anyone at all in an NPC group, use them to find recs for the other groups as well. I ALWAYS ask if the young woman needs recs for groups other than my own. Why? Because I know women in those other groups! And I'm glad to ask my friends to rec someone. Also keep in mind that if you have a connection who belongs to a group not at your school, she still might be able to help you locate others. I often help friends get recs for Alabama. My group is no longer there, but I can get a rec for ALL 15 of the groups there...actually, all 16 as I can do SDT too. So please, ask, ask, ask....you just never know who can help you.
|
I just sent in a rec for a woman I babysat when i was in high school! She'll be going to Auburn. I hope she keeps me updated(or I'll just bug her mom).

Will a sophomore have a good chance at getting into an SEC College Sorority?
I plan on transferring from my current college to a major college here in the south next Fall... If I have good recommendations and a good resume, will I have a good chance at being recruited?
As far as my resumes goes; I have volunteered at my local hospital, involved in alot of church activites, and helped at animal shelters... that's about it! Will I need more extracurricular activies to have a better resume? There aren't many clubs and organizations at my current college, so i'm left with only a few other options when it comes to more volunteering and such. Also, I was home-schooled my 10-12th grade years. (The high school where I live wasn't 'up to par' according to my mother.) I did do very well on the ACT though! I know that Greek Life is very important at my future college and I really want to get into a sorority! Please give me tips and tell me what chance I have of getting pledged into a sorority as a sophomore. Thanks in advance! |

No one here can tell you what your chances are or whether you'll get a bid or not. My best advice would be to GET RECOMMENDATIONS for every chapter on your campus and prepare as best you can. It is quite late in the summer so if you are really planning on going through recruitment, you need to really get moving on trying to find recs. Good luck. |

As far as getting them, ask: former teachers coaches parents friends of parents professors etc. Anyone you think might either be a sorority alumna or KNOW some sorority alumnae who can help you. You can also contact your local alumnae panhellenic group for help. See this thread for more rec related info: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=53908 |
Okay thanks! And can it be someone who is currently in the chapter? rather than just alumni?

traditionally it is harder for sophomores to have a successful recruitment, but if you keep your options open it really helps. some sororities will be more open/willing to take sophomores and others will not. your school may even have an upperclassmen quota so I would suggest looking on the greek life website or contacting them directly.
|
Someone currently in the chapter should know an alum who can write one for you.
