I Wasn't a Greek in College, But ...

I went to college back in the 1970s when joining a Greek letter organization wasn't the thing to do. I went to a couple of rush parties, but to be honest, I really didn't click with many of the fraternity members.

In a way, I sort of regret not pledging a fraternity. Maybe another school or maybe at another time, things might have worked out differently.

Not trying to offend, but you didn't join a GLO in college and it doesn't sound like you are interested in Alumni Initiation. Why exactly are you here then?

Maybe. Maybe this is a stealth spammer person.

Maybe he'll come back to tell us he found a fraternity for adult men.

No, something like Delta Upsilon Delta Epsilon.

pshsx1 07-22-2010 07:56 PM

Look at you being a good ambassador for the Greek Community!

I just laughed and snorted at the same time - it was exceedingly unattractive.

I'm thinking Dean Wormer sent him over.

Amicus 07-23-2010 09:51 PM

1) I want to see what I missed.

2) I have lots of friends who have sons and daughters who are heading for college and they have all sorts of questions

FSUZeta 07-23-2010 10:02 PM

1)it just seems odd that you attended college back in the '70's, did not join a fraternity and sought out a website for sorority and fraternity members and posted what you wrote.

2)if those kids have lots of questions, you could direct them here

What do they want to know? They are free to make accounts here.

Amicus 07-23-2010 10:39 PM

If my presence offends you, I apologize

FSUZeta 07-23-2010 10:43 PM

not at all. you have done nothing offensive.

it is just seems unusual for a grown man in his 50's who is not greek affiliated to seek out and join a website about greek life.

Amicus 07-23-2010 11:02 PM

I stumbled upon this web site by accident. I have to say that I found some of the postings quite interesting. I work in consumer research and spend a lot of time on college campuses.

Back in the 1970s at colleges in the northeast, joining a fraternity or sorority would be have been considered unusual at the very least.

It is not that I am anti-Greek, far from it. I notice that in a lot of postings, the advice given is "go where you feel that you fit in." To be honest, I didn't feel that I would fit in with the fraternities on my campus back then. Like I said, under a different set of circumstances things could have been different

No, not really. Doing something that isn't the most popular thing on campus doesn't make it "unusual."

ree-Xi 07-24-2010 04:52 PM

So what kind of questions do you have?

Well, by definition, if it isn't a usual thing, it's an unusual thing. :p

Well, he made it sound like it was like riding a unicorn down the street. I've seen yearbooks from the 1970s from Northeastern schools, and several of them have quite large and quite numerous sorority and fraternity chapters pictured. I think the OP is imposing his very small window of experience on a very large geographic region.

At least it's someone other than a Southerner doing it this time. For that, I am happy.
