Inception

Has anyone else seen it? I absolutely loved it. I am seeing it again on Sunday, and I rarely see movies more than once in the theater. Simply cannot get over how awesome it is.

Anyone able to give their thoughts without spoilers? I know that some people I went with had physics/time/kick questions. Anyone else have those kinds of issues, or general thoughts?

littleowl33 07-18-2010 02:29 PM

My boyfriend and I saw it last night and we loved it. He's a huge Christopher Nolan fan and I've never seen him so excited about a movie after leaving the theater. He definitely wants to see it again! I think it's the kind of movie I would appreciate more the second time around because I spent a lot of the first third of the movie being confused.

The only big question I had (besides, of course, the ending! but it was a perfect way to end it) was how the son/kidnapped guy whose name I forget ended up in Cobb and Moll's limbo. I thought you got trapped in your own private limbo/subconscious? Maybe since they were all sharing the same dream they went to the same place, like how Cobb and Moll shared a limbo? Maybe I'm not understanding the movie properly...

In any event, very entertaining.

kahlaology 07-18-2010 03:02 PM

I saw it last night with my boyfriend!! We both absolutely loved it. Despite the fact that it was a little lengthy it kept us intrigued the whole time. :)

violetpretty 07-19-2010 12:41 AM

I guess it was good, but certainly doesn't make any of my all-time favorite movie lists. I was intrigued, but not wowed. I guess it's not really my kind of movie anyway. Maybe because the majority of the movie I was confused and it was only the recap at the end when they are moving back up the levels of the dreams that most of it made sense. The ending... :p.

Since you can wake up from the sedative with inner ear movement, I kept waiting for turbulence on the plane to wake everyone up and make them start over. Perhaps in the SNL version...

ellebud 07-19-2010 12:37 PM

We saw it last night. Husband, two daughters and I all went together. We loved it. Any movie that gets people talking...about therapy, reality, dreams....and then analyzing what is possible...is an A plus in our book!

Yeah, that was a little plot hole. Flipping the van wasn't enough of a jolt?

I liked the movie a lot though. My husband and I disagree on the ending.

ellebud 07-19-2010 03:40 PM

So, did he make it or not? In my opinion...a weak yes because he saw the faces. (I am trying to sound vague)...although the spinning thing was teetering..........

I'm of the other school...how long do you think he was gone, ellebud? I'm trying to be equally vague.:)

There was the comment by the wife about being married for 50 years. During the movie I heard the refrain in my head (self generated) "row, row...life is but a dream." But Michael Caine's character...was he professor or ? And the city..............And the other character aged to perfection. (again vague for a reason.)

This is why I think that this is an excellent movie. Yes, there are holes (but why?) but I think that they inspire conversation/discourse. My daughter said that she wished that she were Christopher Nolen's agent. She said that she couldn't imagine how challenging it would be to work with him. (or story editor)

Yep...great movie! I don't think there is a right answer, but you can take home what you want from it.

FSUZeta 07-19-2010 06:25 PM

son saw it over the weekend and liked the movie, but didn't like the ending.

tri deezy 07-21-2010 01:07 AM

I loved the ending! It leaves you wondering if his wife was right for two reasons:

1. The kids hadn't aged at all and they were in the same spot doing the same thing as in his last memory of them, possibly also wearing the same clothing, I can't remember,

2. The top kept spinning.

That said, I think they cut to black just as the top started teetering so that we get to decided the ending! Maybe he was right all along and now he's home to take care of his kids, or maybe he was wrong and his wife was right and he was to kill himself to to the the real wold and be with his family in the world world- pretty huge risk. I think he's going to be staying where he is.

Nolan worked on the script for an entire decade, any holes in the plot were probably there to give the audience a chance to try to explain it for themselves.

BabyPiNK_FL 07-21-2010 01:24 AM

I did not like this movie. I willed myself to sleep, I facebooked, I wished it would be over, I went to the restroom (but I was seat-locked so I couldn't keep leaving without disturbing several people). The beginning was great. But when the action was supposed to start, I couldn't have cared less anymore. It just was-blah for me. Everyone said it was thought provoking, but I didn't even want to talk about it. It was just dragging and naggy for me. I'm glad others enjoyed it though because it was awfully long.

I agree...it was long, and I thought Joseph Gordon Levitt got an awful lot done in 2 minutes.

DrPhil 07-21-2010 12:01 PM

Mover spoilers never bother me. :) I have been hearing a lot about this movie and "dream experts" on the morning news shows.

I think this will be a Redbox for me because it's long and, although I like the topic, it isn't a horror movie. So, it can wait until Redbox. :)

agzg 07-21-2010 12:43 PM

I liked it. :)

txpacer 07-21-2010 11:56 PM

If you have the chance to see it in IMAX or XD, and don't mind ponying up the extra couple of bucks, I highly recommend it. Friends and I saw it again the other night, and thought it was much better in XD.
As far as the final kicks go, I feel like at the bottom they were supposed to spend a few years. I don't know about you guys, but that didn't seem like a couple of years to me. Then again, it could just be because he is dreaming, so it doesn't really matter.. Gah!

AGDee 07-24-2010 12:16 AM

Since the power was out, the kids and I decided to go see this tonight. We all loved it. I spent about the first half hour totally confused but then started to "get it". It reminded me of Memento that way. I just had to watch and absorb and then it all made more sense. We debated all the way home which way it went at the end and we couldn't come to an agreement. I thought it left it open to a sequel but my daughter thought I was nuts to think that. I enjoyed it. It was very thought provoking.

GMUBunny 07-24-2010 10:04 AM

I'm gonna have to wait and Redbox it. I can't sit through a long movie without having to pee, and I know I'd be lost if I left the theater during this one. Also, Mr. Bunny would almost definitely fall asleep, thus wasting money on tickets. If it's not Bogart, there's a pretty good chance he'll be out cold halfway through it. (Not saying there's anything wrong with Bogart. I'm a huge fan myself.)

Remember they had to "speed things up" because they had unforseen issues to contend with. So yes it was beneficial because time was extended more and more on each level, but at the same time, they did not need to full amount of time.

There are plenty of chances for you to pee if you wait until they actually are doing what they spend the first part setting up. After that, nothing really matters.

If I spent time analyzing this movie, I'd wanna do what the wife did. There's nothing to analyze for me because of the nature of the film the real is unreal anyway.

100% agree. I don't get why everyone keeps saying it was the best movie ever. I too was twitchy, bored, & seat-locked so I was stuck. The only part of the movie I did like was the fight scene where the hallway was spinning. Beyond those few minutes, the whole movie was stupid. There were too many gaping plot holes for me to truly buy into it.

Alumiyum 07-24-2010 12:54 PM

I freaking loved it. IMO the plot holes were there for a reason...so you fill them in with what you want.

AGDee 07-24-2010 03:03 PM

I saw the plot holes as deliberate also. After all, dreams have HUGE plot holes usually.

tld221 07-25-2010 12:49 PM

I liked this movie-totally mind blown.

I'm usually hesitant in watching these kinds of movies in the theater. I become incredibly confused and zone out. Especially since I saw the 12:10 showing, being confused and having to be alert until 3am was a lot to ask.

Anyway, great movie. I read the Wiki this AM-totally cleared up some questions and created new ones. Wouldn't say "greatest of all time" but its up there.

P.s. I totally mindgasmed during that hallway/zero gravity fight scene. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has become quite the hottie over the years. I also have a new level of respect for Leo DiCaprio as an actor.

AGDee 07-25-2010 12:55 PM

Leo keeps getting better and better parts which really show his acting ability. I watched Catch Me If You Can for the first time last weekend and I absolutely loved him in that one too.

tld221 07-25-2010 01:07 PM

Ugh, lost the rest of my post!

As for the ending, I believe the top topples. But... if it didn't topple, I hope it doesn't mean a sequel to find resolve. If this took 10+ years to create, a sequel over the next couple years would be lame.

And AGDee, I agree-i loved Catch Me if You Can and this movie reminded me of Inception. I've got a new level of respect for Leo Dicaprio as an actor.

The kids did age, according to the credits:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1375666/fullcredits#cast

It says there were two different actors/actresses for each child:
Phillipa age 3 and age 5
James, age 20 months and age 3

Miriverite 07-25-2010 05:52 PM

^ according to others, however, the "actors" for the older children were only the voices (on the phone), not the children at the end.

IlovemyAKA 07-25-2010 05:53 PM

The previews remind me of The Cell (Jennifer Lopez) which bored me senseless. I tried to watch it on two occasions and fell asleep both times. With that in mind, should I give Inception a try?

Miriverite 07-25-2010 05:57 PM

^ you need to go see Inception. The Cell was a terrible movie and I hated it, but Inception is now one of my favourite movies.

blueiris10 07-25-2010 08:25 PM

Yes! Give this movie a try! I am sure you will love it and will be thinking about it days after you see it...I know that's what happened to me! FANTASTIC film! :)

IlovemyAKA 07-25-2010 08:50 PM

Cool. I think I'll check it out. Another that I'm considering is Salt. Has anyone seen it? Is there a thread for that one?

Off to search...

DaemonSeid 07-25-2010 10:41 PM

dang...why are u guys spoiling the movie....LOL

I got a few theories about these kids.....

cheerfulgreek 07-25-2010 11:59 PM

I really wanna see this one. I hope it's still in theaters in another month.

The 5 Levels of Inception

I understood this without the need of the diagram, but that was a pretty good summation of everything.

Personally I thought the movie was pretty average. The Matrix using dreams that has different levels of reality. Once you accepted the world that they were in it pretty much all explained itself. What is reality, how do we know for sure, what is truth, how do we know it, etc etc are all pretty common themes. Overall I wasn't super impressed by the plot, although the effects and cinematography were sweet.

dreamseeker 07-26-2010 07:45 PM

i LOVED it! i want to see it again.

pshsx1 07-27-2010 10:33 PM

Definitely makes you think. I like it. :)

KSUViolet06 07-31-2010 06:38 PM

Meh. It was good, but not OMG BEST MOVIE EVER like folks are saying.

PrettyBoy 07-31-2010 10:08 PM

I made an attempt to see it the Wed before last. I got an hour into the movie and then I walked out.
