Montana sex education proposal draws outrage

LOL @ the hot mess the bolded could lead to. "No Amber, thats a 69 THIS is a reverse cowgirl" (teacher drawing on the erase board). |

I'm all for sex education (I went through it), but all of that isn't necessary. Anatomy? Sure. Safe sex? Absolutely. The difference between a threesome and an orgy? Go 'head and leave that to the parents. |
I suspect that means teaching what is PIV, oral, anal, digital sex. Not positions. But I need more than a paragraph article. Funny though, they're more upset about the OMG gay sex.
And for better or worse, fifth graders need to know because some of them are already doing it. |

When I was in 5th grade I hadnt grasped the whole sexual concept, nor was I really interested in boys. I was still playing with my barbies and Pleasant Company dolls in 5th grade! :) |

But that makes me think back to the "Mary-Kate and Ashley Countdown" |

In fact, in DC, many of the former elementary schools have become "education campuses" which house Early Childhood/Pre-School (three year olds) all the way up to 8th grade. If a kid gets left behind once and has a late(early?) birthday, you're looking at potential 15 year olds in the same building as 3 year olds and everything in between. |
wait...did they say that they were teaching the Kama Sutra?

The other was not a shock to anyone. All of her family members had dropped out of high school and got pregnant & married young. This girl followed family tradition by dropping out of school in 9th grade. She later got her GED, however she has been working low wage jobs since--McDonalds & a mom & pop gas station back home. We were friends in elementary school, but I was never allowed to spend the night at her home. Random people were always in and out and her parents were never seemingly home. She lived two doors down from the girl mentioned above. |
Differing ages of Pubertly...
My mother and my sister were both at the early end of Puberty. My sister was in a *real* bra when she started 4th grade, and I'm pretty sure that she had started her period (at least brown-spotting) before the end of 3rd grade (she turned 9 before the end of 3rd grade).
There is a difference in the races as well, African-Americans tend to start pubertly earlier than Caucasians, who tend to be earlier than East Asians. Randy |

I transfered from a school where 6th grade was in the elementary hallway to a middle school in 7th grade and it was such a shock culturally for me. People were speaking in sexual terms I had never heard of and shaving their legs and going on dates! |
I feel like they'll probably explain oral sex/vaginal sex/anal sex etc., not necessarily sexual positions. I'm all for this because I'm 23 and am still shocked at how many people my age don't consider oral sex "sex". Like the fact that you won't get pregnant from it negates any other danger or negative consequence. For some reason a lot of people don't treat STD's as seriously as a potential pregnancy. I had someone tell me two days ago they didn't worry about herpes because "You can just take medicine and it goes away and no one around here has that." Yeah. Ok. Besides the fact that it doesn't "go away"...ever...people do have it and I know some personally who in the past chose to not tell partners before sex that they had herpes. Herpoleerpolies explosion. I blame lack of sex ed.
My parents sent me to a church based sex ed course in 5th grade and we had a VERY basic course in school, but it still wasn't even on my radar at that age. I'm sure for someone in my class, though, it was. And were we in a middle school the next year (we are in elementary school until 6th grade before moving to the Junior High so when I was there we behaved more like elementary school kids than high school kids until Junior High) I think more people would've been experimenting. There's a way to do this without traumatizing anyone and it's necessary, IMO. I am very much in support of better sex ed programs in schools. |
