Little IL - Ohio U Recruitment
I'm getting excited for my kid sister, Little IrishLake (aka LIL). She's enjoying her summer, working and hanging at the beach. She is VERY excited to leave for college though, it can't come soon enough for her. She's been putting together her info for recs. It looks like she will have recs for 4 or 5 orgs going into the fall. Ohio University is not a competative campus, but I encouraged her to find them anyway, they can't hurt (I helped a bit). The only downside is getting her high school to supply her transcripts! It's a tiny school, with few staff, and no one is around who can help right now.
She goes for Bobcat Orientation at the end of this month, and she's going to sign up for Recruitment then. She's looking forward to meeting the girls in chapters that she has some connections to. However, she's not biased, she's definately an independent one and will go where her heart takes her. OU has nine active NPC chapters: Alpha Delta Pi Alpha Gamma Delta Alpha Omicron Pi Alpha Xi Delta Chi Omega Delta Gamma Delta Zeta Pi Beta Phi Sigma Kappa LIL is a HUGE fan of Nicholas Sparks books and movies, so I'm going to name the chapters after 9 of his books. (She's also a big Twilight fan, but I can't bring myself to do a Twihard themed Recruitment story). In random order, they are: Dear John The Lucky One The Guardian The Notebook The Rescue The Choice A Bend in the Road Message in a Bottle The Last Song The next two months will go by quickly! I can't wait to tell her live story! |
Those are all awesome chapters. Fingers crossed that she finds her home, just as you found yours. Looking forward to reading about Little IL's recruitment.
|
Good luck to your sister! My sister joined ADPi at OU last year and absolutely loves it.
|
Yay for Ohio schools!
|
Well, bummer that there is no Theta chapter but she will find an excellent home in any of those groups. Best of luck to her!
|
Yay! Another Bobcat story! Although it is sad that two orgs have left since I went through rush there...
|
Forever, I knew Phi Mu recently left... who else was there when you were?
(I DID hint to LIL that if she just couldn't possibly see herself in any of those 9 houses, she could spearhead a Theta recolonization effort there... I've been reading OU recruitment numbers are on the up, so it's possible! However, all of the houses there are so good, I'd bet money on her finding a great, existing home.) |
Good luck to LIL! I toured OU last summer with my older son. He was accepted there and got a small scholarship but elected to attend Marshall University, DH's and my alma mater. Lots of good chapters to choose from there, but I have to admit I'm pulling for Sigma Kappa!
|
Yea! Still tryng to get my niece to go through recruitment at UC this fall.
|
Benz, I hope you can motivate her!

AOII then bought the Phi Sig house and Sig Ep moved into the old AOII house. I know the Phi Mu house was just sold, but I'm not sure to whom- but they had an awesome sorority house location. I would love to see numbers go up at OU- when I was there pledge classes were routinely in the 40-50 member range and total was 150. Now pledge classes are closer to 25 and I'm sure total is lower as well. |

Women's recruitment numbers have been slowly increasing in the last 2 years. Upperclass quota was implemented last fall (Q=21 for first years; Q=5 for upperclassmen in 2009) and that has helped place some of the sophomores that would traditionally get released through formal recruitment. Total was decreased from 135 to 125 in 2008 and more chapters were meeting total in 2008-09 and 2009-10. |
I'm a little irked right now, and I don't know who I am irked with more. My sister, or whoever she talked to.
My sister had OU orientation the past 2 days. I asked her if she signed up for formal recruitment while she was there. She said no. Our FB conversation follows: Me did you sign up for recruitment while you were at OU? Her they arent recruiting this year at all Her there just doing formal rush or whatever Me formal rush is the same thing as recruitment Her noo they said that they arent like looking for people anymore Me who told you that? Her this chick that was in a sorierty Me she lies Her idk Me I don't know if Pi Phi can participate in formal rush because they're on probation, maybe she was only speaking for her group Her she said that if you are interested in joining a sorierty then you do it the 2nd and 3rd weekend in school and no sorority is looking for people everyone just rushes and blahblahblah Me yeah, that sounds right. i dont know why she said no one is looking for people though. Her idk Me http://www.ouwpa.com/page.php?page_id=108604 tells you all you need to know. there is definately fall formal recruitment. Her i know that thats not what im saying they arent looking for people that have siblings in sorierty or have connections or something Me legacies? Her yeah sure idk Me regardless, i think you're just confused on what she was saying you still have to sign up/register for it if you want to participate. Her i know that So now I'm annoyed. I'm trying to convince myself I wasn't this moody when I was 18. |
^^ Being older has made me realize how annoying teenagers are.
|
just strangle her now and get it over with.
sounds like , just as the proverbial stubborn mule, she has laid her ears back, and is trying to demonstrate that you can't make her register for recruitment or join a sorority. that she will do what she damn well pleases. hopefully she will decide on her own to register for recruitment and go thru the process. |
Sigh... she's getting tired of hearing about it from me, so I think from now until the end of September, I'll shut up about it and leave her alone. If she wants to go through it (which she still claims she does) then she will have do it on her own. I helped her (and bugged her) enough with Rec related stuff.

She leaves for OU next Thursday! LIL has had a rough summer. Our parents got divorced about 5 years ago, and mom remarried last summer, and dad recently announced he's remarrying this fall. The transition has been the hardest on her, and she is DYING to get out of our hometown. I think going away to college will be the best thing for her right now (hopefully, fingers, eyes, toes crossed) and it helps her focus and get herself together. I haven't bugged her or brought up recruitment anymore at all. Our middle brother's girlfriend is an active in a chapter at OU though, and she told me that LIL mentioned still wanting to rush just last weekend. I'm going to let the GF take over bugging LIL about signing up for rush and handle answering questions and stuff. LIL really likes GF, so fingers crossed that not only does LIL go through recruitment, but that she doesn't become too biased towards GFs chapter. (What's funny is that LIL and GF look like sisters, way more than LIL and me... everyone notices the strong resemblence except for the 2 of them and Brother).
I just sent LIL her graduation gift (I was still unemployed when she graduated, and couldnt afford to get her what I wanted). I sent her a huge tote full of personal items any new college student might need. I stocked her up on nail polish, and found the CUTEST OU green color. She loves it and is so excited to become a Bobcat! Even better is that OU is only an hour away from where I work, so once my husband is done with his work in WV and is back home, I'll be able to visit her pretty easily. |
Aww.. the tote sounds great! I love OU and secretly wanted one of my guys to go there so I could visit that gorgeous campus and fun town. I hope she goes through recruitment. It sounds like it would give her a wonderful home away from home. Fingers crossed.
|
Hoping for the best for LIL!
|
I wanted my older S to go there too. They even gave him some scholarship money, but he just wasn't feeling it ...

LIL moves to OU tomorrow! This is her last night at home. Bid day is first weekend in October! Fingers crossed she adjusts well!
|
I hope she has a considerate roommate, fun hallmates, and a GREAT RECRUITMENT!
|
Yay! I love Ohio stories and I know a few girls in the AOII chapter down there from when they came up north o participate in our philanthropy. Obviously I'm biased :) but I hope she has an easy transition and a great recruitment should she decide to pursue it.
|
Any updates? I thought OU began recruitment this week.
|
Next weekend. :) A few events next weekend, and Bid Day is October 3rd. She and her roomate both are planning on going through. She's very VERY concerned about the cost. My parents will not help her out (they didn't help me either). She has a campus job already, but she owes some money back home, and she needs to prioritize. I told her to express her concerns during recruitment, and hopefully things will work themselves out.
|
We have a family member that may be rushing at her college. Although our excitement when she chose a school with an AOII chapter far exceed her curiosity about recruitment and said she wasn't interested.
We wanted to strangle her! But then she got to campus and went to the icebreaker events sponsored by the panhellenic and then called to talk to us about rushing. I still don't know if she is actually registered and her rush is this week. I don't want to be all over her and zap the fun out of it for her, but at the same time the curiosity is killing me! |
What rush is this week? The schedule below is what's posted on the OU Panhel website.

Forever, a cousin of my husbands is a recent AOPi grad from OU. :)
|
I should have added that this weekend is the OU at OSU football game, so I doubt there's much going on in Athens besides watching football!

Oh, and go Bobcats! (I love the Buckeyes, but in my soul I'm a Bobcat). And this thread reminds me that I need to send $ for roses for preference. |
Football and drinking (and anything OU) go hand in hand, I didn't think it needed to be said. lol...
I don't know much about Athens, aside from the bike trail that goes to Nelsonville. Myhusband and I rode the entire thing once, started in Nelsonville. When we got to Athens, I was so mad at him, we went on campus and I called every single person I knew there who might be able to take us back to our car in Nelsonville... no luck. My sister has been raving about some diner, cheap food, big portions. |
IL, there are two of us in AZ eagerly awaiting Little IL's story. Although I know there's no kite in the mix, there are great chapters at her school, and I hope that she finds her home.

A ton of my friends and co-workers are going, and many are wearing OSU shirts, but with OU hats, or something along those lines. :)
So OU Panhel has a new website with new Chapter Profiles pages! I'm loving it! http://ouwpa.com/chapter-profiles |

LIL is very excited! She and her roomie are both signed up. She has a few early frontrunners, just based on the girls she knows and new friends she has met, but I reminded her to keep an open mind and consider them all. OH and to take notes and fill me in after everything! :D
|
My cousin was DZ at OU in the early 90s :) I love hearing other Ohio stories!
