LizzieBee's Fall 2010 Recruitment Story!

......

court_3 07-12-2010 12:17 AM

I'll be rushing this fall too! Good Luck! (:

CluelessIllini 07-12-2010 02:11 PM

Me too! I can't wait, and we start on the same day! I was thinking about doing a live one under a different name, but I like to go into detail. I don't want to hurt my chances so I'm going to post on bid day too!

Good luck to both of you!

FSUZeta 07-12-2010 05:39 PM

good luck, ladies!

Atrainer89 07-12-2010 07:33 PM

I will too. However, I will be going through informal! :) I'll post up after whenever I find out anything.

Miriverite 07-14-2010 01:45 PM

I look forward to reading your recruitment story! And for the record, you have a good (and diverse) taste in books =)

LizzieBee 07-14-2010 04:21 PM

Haha, thanks Miriverite!

ucsbgirl 07-14-2010 04:44 PM

Oooh, I love the Blue Bloods series! As well as East of Eden. :)

AXOrushadvisor 07-30-2010 10:45 PM

Ok, so I looked at all the clothes you have and I think they are perfect... except for pref. Sorry, but I can not figure out which dress? Is it the middle one? I don't think any of these look like a cocktail dress, but what do I know? I'm sure what ever one you picked will be good since some one in the know choose it. Good Luck!

KSUViolet06 07-30-2010 11:14 PM

Not too sure that any of those dresses are pref-y except MAYBE the greenish one.

dgdramadawg 07-31-2010 12:13 AM

I'm rooting for Anthem! Equality 7-2521 is one of my favorite characters ever!

drgnlady 07-31-2010 10:02 AM

Great picks except for pref. Keep looking, you'll find it! I love, love the bright Lilly with Jack Rogers or matching, patent Lilly flats. If you get bright pink you can mix and match day 1 and day 3. Eagerly awaiting your story!:)

FSUZeta 07-31-2010 10:15 AM

i think the white lilly ruffled dress that you have in light pink from round 3 might work for pref. with the metallic high heeled sandals you indicated on pref day.

the pref. dresses, while cute, that you featured look a bit too casual for prefs. you could certainly substitute them for round 3. i especially love that coral sheath in the middle. you could coordinate it with a different pair of jack rogers.

LizzieBee 07-31-2010 10:36 AM

FSUZeta, thanks for that advice. I'm attaching the link to my recruitment book e(which has the suggested dress for each night, pg 12 & 13) so you might get a better idea of what's expected.

Thanks Drolefille!

Drolefille 07-31-2010 10:53 AM

No problem!

WannaBeGreek'11 07-31-2010 11:25 AM

Woo! I love the Uglies Series, so I'm voting for that house ;) haha

I love your outfit choices as well! They're all soo cute!

FSUZeta 07-31-2010 12:26 PM

it's probably my age, but the cowboy boots DO NOT flatter girls legs. both girls in the photos probably have nice legs when wearing heels, but the boots make their legs look short and chunky.

FWIW, at other schools(not sure about yours), girls use the clothing guidelines loosely and step them up a bit from the suggestions by panhellenic.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw those pics. Just absolutely awful. The style of skirts they're wearing makes it even worse.

Quite frankly, the only one in those pictures that I think looks nice at all is the brown print dress for pref. Otherwise, there are some BAD fashion choices going on. White pants? Super-flat flats with hemlines that long? Blech. I'm going to ask too, is this a generational thing??

LizzieBee 07-31-2010 01:32 PM

Being from that generation, I have to admit I think most of those outfits are not exactly my style. The first cowboy boot one is okay... Yeah, I definitely wouldn't take any of those suggestions exactly, but it did help me get the idea of the "dressiness" level.

drgnlady 07-31-2010 04:18 PM

Careful LizzieBee. Those girls are actives and will be participating in recruitment. The cowboy boot and skirt thing is huuuge at UNC but I wouldn't recommend it for recruitment for a PNM.

FSUZeta 07-31-2010 04:20 PM

they are probably panhellenic officers or recruitment counselors, but "discretion is key."

LizzieBee 07-31-2010 04:37 PM

drgnlady, I edited. That's what I was trying to say, I actually like the cowboy boot trend (I'm still looking for a pair I like), I just wasn't a huge fan of the entire look, especially for recruitment.

These are real girls wearing real outfits. Many of them are friends of my daughter. She has confirmed that, for the most part, the clothes in the Recruitment booklet accurately reflect what sorority women at UNC wear.

honeychile 07-31-2010 06:13 PM

Be sure to put your thoughts daily in document, and that way, you can cut and paste after bid day. Good luck!

Well, I'm 40, so I doubt they give a $%^k what I think. I'm sure the 40 year old alums looked at our big hair, denim minis with bobbysox and oversize shirts and thought we looked ridiculous too.

And since LizzieBee has edited her post, it would be nice of you to edit yours as well. :)

Over the years, the PNMs at Carolina have really stepped up from the guidelines. We've seen Lily sundresses and DvF wrap dresses on the first night! This isn't the majority, but most girls do go a step above the recommended attire for each event.

Good luck & go Tar Heels! :)

LizzieBee 08-12-2010 11:36 AM

Update: Less than a week til I move in! These last few weeks have gone by so quickly, but I am so ready to get moved in and get ready for rush!

perfectinpurple 08-12-2010 12:36 PM

LizzieBee 08-17-2010 04:47 PM

I FINALLY move in tomorrow, Chapel Hill here I come! After I move in the days til rush are sure to go by quickly :)

FSUZeta 08-17-2010 06:34 PM

Nice outfits. But what is meant by "Skits and Financial" for Round 2? Do they go over the costs of each house during the recruitment period? Is this common? At my school the info was available in a discreet way (i.e. handouts) since it does come into play for some girls' decisions...but they didn't do "presentations" on this. But then again, when I went to college, they didn't do Philanthropy round either!

I think they just discuss the costs, living out vs living in, other obligations etc. Although it would be really awesome if they worked it into a skit somehow. :)

Lightning Bug! 08-18-2010 07:00 PM

This has been done at Carolina for many years. A sister will come up and grab you, seat you in the dining/chapter room, chat while everyone else files in, then she says "I'll be back after the skit." Then you watch a skit that has nothing to do with financial info. Usually just songs with some overall theme. Then the sister comes back, talks for a minute, then says "I wanted to go over our financial obligations with you" or something like that. It is a little awkward and contrived, but all the houses do want you to have this info early on. I think it's online at greeks.unc.edu, but they go over it anyway and ask if you have questions. Sometimes they tell you about the chapter's financial plan, if you want to pay in installments instead of at the beginning of the term. Then you move on to other topics. It is worth looking at the financials online, because I think there is about a $1000 difference between the most expensive and least expensive houses (or at least there used to be).

Lightning Bug! 08-18-2010 07:13 PM

Yes, go here for the financials:

http://greeks.unc.edu/index.php?opti...=475&Itemid=40

Carolina Panhellenic is very responsible in wanting PNMs to know costs up front. The room and board costs at most of the sorority houses are very reasonable given cost of living in The Thrill.

My school had each chapter give PNMs a handout and they told us what info had to be on it. It is nice when a school does this because you have everything in front of you and can take it home and look over it.

*winter* 08-18-2010 07:41 PM

thanks for the replies. I guess a skit would be more fun ;)

Sorry to hijack the thread btw!
