Rush Limbaugh: Obama Created Recession As 'Payback' For Racism

Rush Limbaugh said on his July 2 radio show that he believes Obama tanked the economy on purpose, both as "payback" for 230 years of racial oppression and because Obama simply doesn't like America.

He railed: "Who is Obama? Why is he doing this? Why? Why is he doing it? Is he stupid? Is it an accident? Is he doing it on purpose or what have you? ... I think we face something we've never faced before in the country -- and that is, we're now governed by people who do not like the country, who do not have the same reverence for it that we do. Our greatest threat (and this is saying something) is internal."

Limbaugh went on to compare Obama to the Black Panthers:

"So in this interview with J. Christian Adams yesterday talking about [how] he and his line attorneys were told to just drop the case against the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation in Philadelphia, he said that there were people in the office, DOJ, who said, 'Well, you know, those people suffered the indignity of slavery, discrimination, segregation and so forth.'

What an idiot. And I love how he conveniently forgets to mention that the economy started to thank while Bush was still in office.

I'm waiting for Fred Savage to come out of the suit like on Family Guy.

As a conservative (who is NOT a fan of Rush Limbaugh) I must acknowledge that yes indeed it started with Bush and before November of 2008. Though, I must admit, I dont agree with how Obama or Congress has chosen to handle the economy up to this point.

To answer your rhetorical question Rush, yes he is. Obama might be less intelligent then Bush and that takes a true feat.

But you're mightily stupid yourself.

Which is perfectly fine. I don't think that we as a country have to agree with everything our elected officials do. I am offended, however, by some of these awful pundits and talking heads attacking our President as unAmerican. It's hateful. Disagree with his politics, but don't impugn his patriotism or intent.

I think he's calling Obama and Rush stupid, not Obama and you.

Which is special, but you know whatever.

Ahhh, I see it now. I thought there was punctuation missing in EW's response.

My apologies, EW.

Speaking of unAmerican did you see that facebook group a few months ago wishing the death of President Obama? As you said, it is one's right to not like or disagree with any sitting president, but to wish their death? I'm sorry I find that to be VERY unAmerican!

I totally agree. I did see it. I have lots of friends who send me emails and links to things that I find very questionable. It's weird how quickly people can lose their moral compasses when they get whipped up by morons like Rush. I think that people also lose a hold on reality. I can respect other peoples' opinions because in the end, none of us really knows what is going to work. We can guess, we can look back to past recessions, we can surmise, but none of us have a crystal ball. Our opinions could be wrong, and the other side could be completely right. It's pretty hard to come back from death threats when you have egg on your face!

So THIS is where my father is getting his opinions. Every day I speak with him, it's a new conspiracy theory. :(

Seriously just keep snopes and the political fact check sites as a bookmark. Saves SO much time.

my husband is the SAME way. He listens to Rush religiously, and takes everything from FoxNews as golden. He's just about learned to not bug me with Rush talk....

I'm conservative, but I've found that there a certain things (gay rights, for example) that I have a liberal stance on...

Mine too...but I knew where he got it from since he's listened to Rush since he started broadcasting.

BabyPiNK_FL 07-07-2010 06:47 PM

^^^ I agree. With black people disproportionately affected by poverty, this argument falls flat. Why do people even invent things like this to say? Who is logical that sits around and agrees with this? It's enough to make a Vulcan's head explode.

Nm....the people who keep him on the air. I don't even think HE believes himself. I think he just likes money and panders to bigots for his supper. He's the same guy who paid Elton John to sing at his wedding and Elton is the same guy who showed up and did it. C.R.E.A.M.

I'm sure not only does he not believe it, I bet he KNOWS it's not true! It's not possible for any political pundit to think that the recession started after Obama took office. It's just not possible for anyone with any kind of education to think that unless they were on drugs for the last few years, have dementia, or have never read any news source. No matter what political beliefs you hold... it's just utter fabrication of recent history/current events.
He should be taken off the radio NOT because of what he says, but because of the impact he has on his listeners. His listeners who believe the absolute lies and conspiracies that he comes up with and those listeners then base their votes off those lies... It boggles my mind how irresponsible it is to knowingly exploit the trust his listeners give him.

He and Glenn Beck are an insult to journalism.
