I don't think any of us thought he was particularly classy :-/

Besides, how reliable is TMZ anyway?

Xidelt 07-02-2010 12:52 AM

Lemme guess....he's gonna blame it on booze?

Don't knock TMZ, they are pretty reliable.

pshsx1 07-02-2010 02:48 AM

Yeah, TMZ is usually pretty legit. They were the first ones to report MJ's death, weren't they?

Very reliable. When in come to celebrity news, you don't confirm news to cnn or network news, you confirm it to TMZ.

DrPhil 07-02-2010 07:21 PM

This doesn't bother me. People say dumb and bigoted things in private. It so happens she was recording him, to prove that he was violent and threatening her, and caught him being dumb and bigoted.

More importantly, he allegedly has beaten her including knocking her tooth out and giving her a concussion. However, the media is letting his violence be overshadowed by his saying n*gger. I guess that's what gets the public's attention in this racially charged society.

Media experts are saying that his career is done. If so, that should be about his alleged domestic violence as much as, if not more than, his use of racial slurs (including his drunk Jewish tirade a few years ago). I wouldn't boycott Gibson because he said n*gger. I probably won't remember that. But, I would remember and boycott him if it is proven that he is an abuser. Then again, I'm one of the people who doesn't care about people's prejudices and bigotry--and I believe a lot more has to happen than saying n*gger for someone to be racist.

At this point, at least, I think it's about the words on the tape because that's what got leaked against a judge's gag order. I don't disagree with you in general, but we'll see what happens next.

I know...the mysterious leak. LOL.

Rant/

Some of the news shows have included his alleged abuse in their stories after they discuss his n*gger comment. And the n*gger comment is still the headliner. How can the alleged violence be a sidebar even if it is still alleged? "Alert! Mel Gibson said n*gger!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alert! And...oh yeah...by the way...if anyone cares...if you're still watching/reading/listening...sidebar...he may've beaten her and knocked her tooth out."

/Rant

DrPhil 07-02-2010 07:44 PM

I always found Gibson handsome and still do. :)

He hasn't aged well and substance abuse does that.

Jill1228 07-03-2010 11:50 AM

I've boycotted him ever since his anti Semetic rant. This just adds fuel to my dislike of him

Psi U MC Vito 07-03-2010 01:32 PM

Not to mention you are going to hell if you aren't Roman Catholic. He likes a very very small group of people it seems.

Hey, he's one of those really conservative Catholics who thinks that Vatican 2 was a crazy thing the kids did in the 60s. He's a Latin Mass sort. Among other things.

A few wafers short of a Mass is what I'm saying.

Jill, I too have boycotted him since his rant. I see no reason to support someone who hates me.

I have been involved in several conversations recently (because of celebrities) about how such moments speak to the ways that violence towards women is still permissible, forgivable, and frequently not worthy of attention or comment, which is why it continues to be so pervasive.

Life isn't going so well for Mel. His agent Ed Limato died last week and the agency, WME dropped him. Too bad (not).

Leslie Anne 07-12-2010 02:14 AM

Sorry to hear of Limato's death. I love that William Morris dropped Mel though. :D

DaemonSeid 07-12-2010 05:38 AM

Ok...to summarize...

Mel Gibson is a racist douchebag who also went to the Ike Turner School of Hard Knocks

or

Mel Gibson who went to the Ike Turner School of Hard Knocks is also a racist douchebag?

ellebud 07-12-2010 01:22 PM

Years ago when Mel was married to the first wife I read an article (I have this weird memory for stuff so trust me on this) where he stated that he believed in corporal punishment for the kids...really believed because God told him to do it.

I remember feeling very uncomfortable. I am wondering when his kids (now older) will start writing books about their abusive father and their childhoods. And where was child protective services?

Are you saying that his version of corporal punishment may be abusive because he seems loony?

Or, are you saying that corporal punishment and abuse are synonymous?

Just seeking clarity. ;)

He's incredibly conservative especially when it comes to religious things - something corporal punishment usually ends up tied to. But cp isn't inherently abusive.

ellebud 07-12-2010 03:00 PM

Do I believe in corporal punishment? No. (I am the mother of 3 now grown to almost grown. And yes, there were times that I felt the murder would be justifiable homicide. jk) The way he phrased it (corporal punishment, for instance, it wasn't like, "yeah, they get out of line and I'll give them a quick smack"...and I can't quote exactly so I won't...it gave me the creeps.

Both. And the funny/weird/touch of irony is that living in Los Angeles (west LA/BH/BA especially) is an incredibly multi cultural place. It is a united nations in the best sense of the word. The business (show) is obviously very open to people of all backgrounds. So, all Mr. Gibson has to do is to complete the debacle that is his life and insult Arabs/Asians/the GLT/Persian communities and he is a dead man. (I didn't include mideasterners as a group because he already stated that he hates Jews.

Oh, a dead man means work and social...not literally.

DrPhil 07-12-2010 06:51 PM

"No, Ms. Sophia! No, Ms. Sophia...NOOOOOOO!!!" :(

http://wonderwall.msn.com/movies/new...tory?GT1=28135

"Oh, you're all angry now!" Gibson responds. "You know what, you ... (expletive deleted) deserved it!"

DaemonSeid 07-13-2010 08:16 AM

This is going to make an awesome South Park. http://bit.ly/digFZu

ellebud 07-13-2010 02:31 PM
