Did you pledge someone famous?
Along the lines of Ches. Clinton pledging ... has anyone had an experience of someone really really rich or famous go thru rush and had to make a decision to take them due to $/fame or if you really liked the person. For example- the college president's daughter/son or Bill Gates daughter/son....

Disclaimer: What I'm about to post is strickly what I have heard from the grapevine. I am not greek so I'm not exactly sure how true this information is.
Ok, Rumor has it that Brittney Spears is suppose to come to LSU(I don't know exactly sure when she is suppose to enroll, but supposedly she wants to graduate for LSU) Anyhow, it is rumored that she wants to go Chi-O. Well, when the time comes, I'm sure all the houses on the row are going to feel some pressure as to invite her back to the next round. On the one hand, any house that extends Ms Spears a bid, would be the "house on campus". On the other hand, the house that extends her a bid might pick up a not so nice reputation. As everyone knows, Ms Spears is know for her "creative" clothing choices(or lack there of) and LSU is one of the most conservative schools in the country. If Brittney were a KD or Tri-Del,or even a DZ,some people might not want to associate with the house she is in. |
Britney might have some funky clothing (or lack of same) but she also has pounds of $$$$$ and lotsa access to the N'Sync boys.. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
But when it all comes down to it she would need to be evaluated the same as any other rushee. How in the world is she going to find the time to pledge a sorority? |
Don't put too much weight into rumors. I heard she was going to go to James Madison Univerisy. Suposedly, this was to be her freshman year.
|
Britney attending college? Interesting idea. I don't know how she'll do it considering that her career's way up there. Even if she did figure out some way to take classes, I highly doubt that she'll have time to go Greek. When I pledged I had to plan my schedule around work--but that was only 20 hours a week--and that was hard enough!

Interesting how Britney Spears is supposed to be attending all these colleges when she hasn't even finished her SOPHOMORE YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL yet! She's a dumb whore! Sorry, I cannot stand her, personal opin...
|
|
Okay, while I don't always agree with her clothing choices, I will admit this: I like Britney Spears.
I believe she has finished high school, via home schooling. I wouldn't call her a dumb whore just because of that. It wouldn't be too far fetched for her to attend LSU. One of her cousins does go to school here. She has been known to go out to some of the local hangouts up here, like on her birthday in December. I would not be surprised if at sometime, she enrolled part time, if not full time. And honestly, I don't think it would hurt the rep of any house she pledged at all. Why? Because I know of girls at LSU from the "socialite" sororities, and most of them are not so ladylike at all. They represent their houses very poorly, in my opinion, the way they swear like sailors, talk about how drunk they got and where they passed out, and how many guys they have had. How would this be acceptable but Britney not be? |
I'm pretty sure Chris Klein from American Pie and Election is a Lambda Chi at Texas Christian. I don't know much about it though, and I don't think they have a chapter website.

JUST PERSONAL OPINION.... but i dislike Britney Spears as well. Guess what i heard? I heard about a year ago that she wanted to attend Baylor University... reason why i transferred!! Just kidding, thats not why! One of my main reasons i dont like her is because she seems SO FAKE!! Anyway, just thought i'd share! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I think Britney is awesome. I would want to be her chapter's sweetheart. Of course, this is a guys opinion. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

There was a classic rumor that Dustin Diamond ("Screech" from the hit TV show Saved by the Bell) was a Pi Lam at the University of Illinois. As far as I know, this was not true, but it's funny how rumors get started and spread like that.
But to answer the real question: my chapter has not pledged anyone who has become famous (yet). There's a guy who pledged during my senior year who would probably make a good senator or congressman or something. He served as the Student Government President and Student Trustee while he was at school, so he's off to a good start. |
I'm sure one of the members of Delta Sigma Theta can verify this, but "Little Rudy Huxtable" (Keshia Knight Pullman --hope I got her name right) from the Cosby show pledged Delta at Spelman College in Atlanta about a year or so ago.
|
I just asked the original question b/c we had an heir to the Coca Cola fortune go thru our rush. My first thought was that she would be totally stuck up and I did not want her in the sorority but I was wrong- very down to earth and I even lived with her for a year. Just wondering if anyone else went thru that.
|
You are correct, Soror Knight-Pulliam pledged at Spelman College. I beleive it was a couple of years ago, though.

My chapter of fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi had a chance to initiate Shaquille O'Neal when he was a full time student here at LSU in the early 1990's. But, they didn't because the basketball season, etc. Shaq would not allow him have the same pledge process as everyone else from my chapter

Jerry Maguire has entered the FORUM. Frat please remember what I told you, O.K. Now that we have that out of the way, SHAQ tried to pledge at NU IOTA? I didn't know that. One of my professors told me that he got into a scuffle or something of that nature with some brus around that time. That doesn't suprise me... |
although everyone probably knows this, Sela Ward (Sisters, Once and Again)was a cheerleader and a Chi-O at the University of Albama when my dad was there in the early 70's.
|
First of all, I love Britney Spears (her music and style). I think she is a great performer (even though she does not sing all the time). Her style is the bomb. And for those who hate her, GET A LIFE.
P.S. I hope she does join Chi-O. It is the best soroity (as in looks, money, and style). |

I don't know if any famous kids have pledged at this chapter, but enough children of somewhat well-known people attended this school, so who knows. JFK Jr. lived down the hall from where I lived last year, and his frat is in the same building as my sorority. |
Well..Chris Evert's brother was a Fiji while I was at Auburn, Charlie Rich's daughter was a Kappa while I was at Arkansas. While I was at Mississippi State, I sponsored the cheerleaders and I remember Sela Ward at camp because I can still picture her face when this happened. One of our guys went to throw a piece of chocolate pie at one of the Bama guys but the guy ducked and the pie winged their girls. On their all-white uniforms.

we recently initiated a Congressman in my Lambda Chi chapter at Murray State University. He actually went through with me even though he was Honorary Initiate. But he was in my associate class, which is cool.

AXO Alum-
"ouch" - you just said this morning in your other post "It has come to my attention that I've been rather negative lately (I'll blame it on the cold winter blahs)..." While I do agree- no one sorority is "the best" - I am going to assume by the 2000 in her screen name that she just pledged and I think when I first pledged- I probably did the same thing until an active set me straight. I'm with you though- I can't wait for summer and days where the sun stays out till 7:30 at night. ------------------ I'd rather be lovable than popular and democratic than exclusive! |

I think every sorority would like to see brittney spears join their sorority so stop kidding yourselves. It'd be a way to use her name to have a good recruitment in the future. Some girls may not like her but everyone would agree that it would be a good movie for your sorority. Same thing goes with famous people joining a fraternity.
|
I don't think that Brittany Spears would make a good Greek. I think that it would reflect badly on any group. Think about it - instead of people saying "Oh, did you hear about this and that wonderful thing that XYZ did" they'd say "I heard that Brittany Spears did this and that wonderful thing." Also, I don't think that Spears could give the chapter what it deserved, and the chapter would be too intimidated of her to treat her like everyone else. And frankly, everytime I see her behaving like she does (you know what I mean) I get so humiliated to be in the same age group as she. This is the model late-teen/early 20 something? Ugh! She freaks be out.
And I desagree with the whole thing about no sororiy being the best. I think each sorority is the best for the girls in it. Allie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif |
Gee,
I'm beginning to feel sorry that I brought the whole topic about Britney Spears up in the first place. I only made the observation based on the fact I attend LSU and have seen the atmoshepre that is the Greek system. I only said what I said because most people(especially the media) are anti-greek. The school newspaper hardly ever prints the good stuff greeks do,but will print that two franterties got into a fight in a heartbeat. If Britney were to rush her, I don't think that the reporters would be very objective. But this is my opinion. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
I dont know Britney personally. I say if she can get a bid from any sorority, abide by all of the standards of that sorority, attends all of the functions and meetings then more power to you. Although if she plans to use it as a rubberstamp or rarely is around than maybe not. I say give her a chance.

As much I don't like Britney Spears (there's a little thing called "class" which I think she lacks a lot of), I think she would be a great attribute for a sorority. I think that I pretty much speak for many sorority girls when I say that the prestige that comes along with pledging Britney Spears would be very welcome. The chapter would definitely be spoken of nationally through the media.
|
Not that I am opposed to Brittany-- she always seems nice on TV-- I don't think she presents the best image. I personally wouldn't want to give someone a bid because she means good media coverage.

As far as the ORIGINAL topic is concerned - I think it would be hard to pledge someone who would have such significant time restraints. Part of becoming a sister is that you bond together by spending time together doing activities and all. My pledge-sisters and I were pretty much inseparable even when we weren't doing chapter stuff. I would just want her to realize that its more than sticking 3 letters across your chest and saying "I'm an XYZ" -- you have to live it to understand it. PS - I never thought someone would actually admit that all their sorority is "best" in was looks, money, and style. I'd rather pride myself on my sorority having "sisterhood, true friendship, and class!" |
I think that many of you are missing some basic knowledge about Britney's image...
She is *NOT* the one with the control over what she wears. As a music business student, I can assure you that when you see her in public, her publicists and image makers (managers, agents, the record company she works for, etc.) have told her exactly what to wear and the proper way to act to portray the image they're trying to have her keep. No one you see in entertainment is entirely themselves. In effect they aren't ALLOWED to keep it real. The entire entertainment industry - music especially - is a packaged show for the public. That's why when Old Dirty Bastard gets busted for cocaine charges, his record sales increase, while Whitney Houston's record sales plummet when she's busted for the same thing. They're selling an image, which sometimes is more important than the music itself. I mean, just look at the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync - you think they're all really sweet guys who are always thinking of romantic things to sing about? Not likely. Most artists don't even write their own songs. Anyway, my point is that unless you know the celebrity PERSONALLY - you don't know them at all, and shouldn't pre-judge them based on the "personality" and image they were hired & paid to represent. |
Uhhh...I think Miss Spears has some say in what she does/wears. It disturbs me that although she says she's a god-fearing Christian virgin, she still does a cover of the Stones' "Satisfaction" in nearly nothing. I'm not sure I want to call someone like that a sister. Don't be a hypocrite.

Since when did this become BritneySpearsChat.com ? Let's get back to the real question-I'm pretty sure Patsy Ramsey was an AXiD. How interesting!

I know we want to get away from the Britney Spears talk, but has anyone heard the saying "any publicity is good publicity"? We just spent however long talking about her. Isn't that what her publisist & stylist want? I think they achieved their goal, even if it is sparked because of something negative.
