Christmas!

OK, now that it's November I think I can ask...

1. Has anybody started Christmas shopping yet?

2. What ONE item do you want most for Christmas this year?

3. What are you getting for your Significant Other?

My answers would be....

1. You MUST be kidding....I haven't even really thought about it yet!

2. I never give this a lot of thought until the last minute, but I think I would like a crown pearl AXO lavaliere...anybody know where hubby could get one of these (he needs all the help he can get here lol!)?

3. ...And I definitely don't have a clue what to get for him! Hopefully I'll get some ideas if anybody posts a reply here!

The1calledTKE 11-01-2001 09:04 AM

1.nope
2. I have no idea.
3. Not sure yet but couldn't tell you anyway because she uses greekchat too.

Thrillhouse 11-01-2001 10:38 AM

Hey its not the day after thanksgiving yet ;)

Siobhan 11-01-2001 06:02 PM

1. The thought has crossed my mind but I haven't placed my foot in a mall yet for the sole purpose of Christmas shopping

2. Have to get back to you on that one

3. See number 2 - however I had thought about getting my b/f a copy of the David Letterman bio "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi"...

XO_Princess 11-02-2001 03:38 AM

1. no way have I started shopping. It would be too early. I have this thing that only allows me to shop a week in advance.

2. Hunny is getting me Shrek, Legally Blond, and a RUBIX Cube... I love that boy.:D

3. I have no clue what to buy Hunny. I am all out of ideas. God only knows what he'll wind up with.

juniorgrrl 11-02-2001 09:55 AM

1. I've thought about it in passing

2. NO clue. Possibly the Mignon Faget red beans and rice bracelet.

3. A DVD player

veruca76 11-02-2001 11:58 AM

My boyfriend always does his Christmas shopping wicked early. He already knows what he's getting everyone - he just has to go get it and pay for it. That really annoys me that he's so organized. My little brother turns 21 in a couple of weeks and I haven't even bought his present yet! :o

DGPhoney 11-02-2001 09:54 PM

Caroline you need a computer-remember!!!!!!!

SilverTurtle 11-03-2001 02:44 PM

1.) Just recently (as in.. this week) started thinking about it. I'm not a shopper, so it takes a lot of motivation for me to go out and do it. And, I'm a picky shopper when you get me in the store. I won't settle for less than the perfect gift for anyone. (Incidentally, by boyfriend is also psychotically early with his shopping... he's been done since August. He starts around May.)

2.)I hate deciding what I "want" for XMas. I am trying to get rid of most of the things that clutter up my apartment. Minus books, CDs & DVDs-my 3 addictions :D. I was actually considering giving my family a list of charities (including my GLOs fund) to donate to in my name as my gift(s). Although I do want a few small pieces of luggage, as I travel quite a bit.

3.)Definately a camera... a nice small compact one with a zoom lens. (He mentioned recently that he wanted one, which makes my job a lot easier). He will also get Best Buy giftcards. The man owns countless CDs.

**Speaking of Best Buy giftcards... I think gift cards are one of the greatest developments of modern technology. My family all exchanges them (usually the same stores!).. they're easy and inexpensive to mail. You have a year (or more) to wait and find something you really like. **

DGPhoney 11-04-2001 07:28 PM

Are there any gifts that are just considered aweful holiday gifts or presents?

Well, a few years ago my monster-in-law got me....a pair of running shoes. And she had NO idea what size I wore - NO idea whatsoever; she didn't even ask my husband....

Of course they didn't fit, and...she didn't bother keeping the receipt, so I couldn't exchange them or get a refund...but hey, whatever....

aggieAXO 11-05-2001 05:48 AM

Ok Caroline you need to get your monster n law a huge pair of undies (grandma panties) and a matching bra (must not only be big but also a hideous pattern or color)-I would love to see the look on her face as she took them out of the box-he he he he;) then you could say-"I am not sure if those are your size, but they reminded me of you"

BTW have you purchased my beamer yet? remember red with black top, I 'll get you a computer-that is kind of an even trade?:D

It's not HER fault she has MAD COW DISEASE!! :p

(OK, for sure I'm goin' straight to hell for that remark....oh well, hopefully I'll be so busy shakin' hands with all my friends there, I won't notice how hot it is :D )

KarenC725 11-08-2001 01:37 PM

1. Started shopping in July so I'm just about done.

2. What do I want??? Something shiny that I know I'm NOT getting.

3. Boy is getting: boxers, authentic autographed album (yes vinyl) of his favorite band, something golf related. Since I'm not getting something shiny, he doesn't get the tv he wants...

AlphaGam1019 11-08-2001 01:57 PM

A few x-mases ago, my ex bf's mother (an absolute scary b*tch) gave me a set of 3 fake gold bracelets! (ya know, the ones at the dept store tables, like Jennifer Moore brand or something)

um, I only wear real gold, sorry! I dunno what the b*tch was thinking, that maybe my jewelry is all fake? :P

She also gave "us" afternoon tickets to the symphony, but we broke up before we got to use them :P

In any case, I'm glad to get rid of the psycho mother and son combo. :D

Dejajeva 11-08-2001 03:19 PM

For all of us out there who buy non-real jewelry sometimes-

:)

I feel ya.
Sometimes I can't afford to pay 300 dollars for a gold necklace. So instead I pay 50 for once that looks just as nice.
:)

Jess

AlphaGam1019 11-08-2001 03:31 PM

But it's not something you buy someone else :P
I mean, she could have spent her $14 bucks on something else...(the pricetag was still in the case)
How tacky...

Dejajeva 11-08-2001 03:35 PM

True...

:)

BAH HUMBUG to all of the Holidays! I deal with morons who want to do shopping late! It is my fault when they do not get the right things!

the only thing I care about is being with my DAD when I can which is not often enuff owning a business and dealing with A--holes who wonder wy I dont stay open longer than 11 hours a day for their convenience!

Haha. I am the exact opposite. I can't stand gold. Too gaudy and doesn't compliment my skin tone. Tiffany silver is the only way to go.

Dejajeva 11-09-2001 04:02 PM

I don't like gold much either- although when i worked for marriott I had to wear gold because that's what our uniforms were..

I prefer silver. It's much prettier.

AlphaGam1019 11-09-2001 04:42 PM

silver looks weird on me. Gold matches nicely. Besides, my watch is gold, doesn't particularly look good with silver. :P

IowaHawkeye 11-09-2001 04:45 PM

lol, i don't cae if you wear silver, gold - just make sure you stick to one - one of my biggest pet peeves is people who wear an all gold watch, silver hoops, gold necklace, and silver rings.. ugh drives me insane

Re: Christmas!

1. Has anybody started Christmas shopping yet?
I haven't. No time yet, and plus I usually am the last-min. shopper :D. The 23rd and 24th of Dec. are ALWAYS memorable days for me, each year... ;)

2. What ONE item do you want most for Christmas this year?
Dunno. Haven't yet had the time to really think about it, unfortunately...

3. What are you getting for your Significant Other?
See number 2's answer.

newbie 11-18-2001 04:18 AM

Gold vs. silver

I think both gold and silver are pretty in some cases. But I think what truly matters is which looks best on you. On me, silver clashes with my (warm) skintone. White gold looks the best on me. :)

Betarulz! 11-18-2001 02:36 PM

Well now that today is the first day in over a month that the High here in NEBRASKA is going to be lower than 60 (of course the week of Homecoming when we were out everynight guarding the display it was 35http://www.plaudersmilies.de/sad/smhair1.gifthat's me being very cold), I feel a little bit better thinking about christmas.

1. I've thought about it, I think some Beta "mom" stuff for my mother, Nebraska paraphenalia for my little brother, and who knows what I'll get for my dad.

2. A cell phone, I hate the campus phone system--what a pain, and people are a little bit more stingy w/ their minutes than they were back in HS (probably b/c mommy and daddy are no longer paying for the plan), so a cell is becoming more and more necessary. Also some gift cards to A & F or Hollister would be great.

3. Don't have a SigOth...yet, hopefully my date to formal will pan out to be as awesome as I think she is now, and that this other guy will get out of the picture. So if I do, then it'll probably be something like flowers delivered to her house the day after finals.

aggieAXO 11-20-2001 10:36 AM

Flowers delivered after finals-oh you will put the other guy to shame-that is sooooo thoughtful and it is making me melt in my shoes.

Hey gals-need advice, I have a gold senior A&M ring that I wear 24/7-aggie rings are a tradition and very special so I wear it all the time, but I hate gold and with my skin tone and clothes silver looks better plus it is more affordable. So-am I commiting a huge faux pas? I dont' wear silver rings on the hand I wear my gold ring but sometimes on the opposite-should I stop this?
Having a silver aggie ring is an option but then no one knows that it is an aggie ring. 99% of aggies wear there senior rings and it so neat when you are in a completely different state and someone sees your ring and they happen to be an aggie too.
Please be brutally honest-

Thanks Karen

AggieDZ 11-21-2001 09:33 PM

Girl, you knew I'd just HAVE to chime in on this one right?

It's your AGGIE RING!!!! Do you really need to ask?

I must admit, I too have pondered this dilemma as I really don't own any more than like 2 pieces of gold jewelry. But, in the end I think it's just a crime against all that is sacred to get a silver (it's really white gold, I think) Aggie ring. From all of the other ladies I've polled, I think the general consensus is: as long as that (& maybe your engagement/wedding ring) is all that's gold, it's not TOO bad to wear silver with it. But, note, we're talking small silver studs,a simple watch or a delicate chain not "fly-girl" hoops & the like. I think the key to this dilemma is remembering: simple, subtle, sophisticated

I know Allison, and probably since you are the only aggie other than me here you are the only one that truly knows the importance of the aggie ring. I have a friend that wears silver on the other hand and it looks ok to me so I guess I will just continue to do what I have been doing and hopefully no one will cringe if they see both silver and gold on me.

have fun if you are going to the game-I have to work:(

I haven't really started yet. Every damn toy that comes on TV, Paige says "Mommy I want that." She is her mother's child.

I bought a racing package at the Richard Petty track in Orlando for Brent but now I find out he can't do it (it has to do with a life-threatening injury he has and a lawsuit, I'll leave it at that.) So now I am at a loss.

I want a pair of diamond earrings set in platinum or white gold. I wear my diamond studs (set in gold) basically every day of my life, but I am anal about matching stuff (belt to shoes to purse, gold to gold, silver to silver) and I want something to go with my silver stuff. What I REALLY want is a bigger rock but I think that is what he is doing for my 30th b-day in May. I just love big gaudy jewelry. Actually any jewelry will do for Xmas, I have some CZs set in silver that will do for the earring thing.

I have no idea what we are doing for the holidays yet. We have talked about getting away just the 2 of us but my dad is probably flying in for Xmas. He and his wife usually go out of the country for the holiday but her daughter is due to have her baby Jan 3 and she wants to be here. All I know is I'M not having it at my house!!!!!!!!!!!! (Been there done that never again!!!!)

volgirl2376 11-24-2001 01:02 AM

1. Has anybody started Christmas shopping yet?
Yes

2. What ONE item do you want most for Christmas this year?
Furniture...or a guy to kiss under the mistletoe

3. What are you getting for your Significant Other?
Well, since I am single, I guess I will list what I am getting for my family, who is very small. Mom: a pair of diamond stud earrings and a handblown glass ornament. Dad: I have no idea. Brother: a leather bound biography on Andrew Jackson. Sis-Inlaw: paraffin bath. Shelbie (my doggie): a stocking full of basted pig ears lol
