Real Life Signs That You're Spending Too Much Time on GC

I was at Chik-Fil-A with my son recently. We sat down at our table and I noticed that, as is often the case, there were fresh flowers on the table. On this particular day, the flowers were red, white and pink carnations.

My first thought was about how the GC Alpha Chi Omegas, Chi Omegas, Gamma Phi Betas and Phi Mus would love it.

My second thought was that the Pi Phis would feel left out, since there were no wine carnations.

My third thought was that I clearly have been spending too much time on GreekChat. :o

So how about you? What signs tell you that you're spending too much time on GC?

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 03:36 PM

The fact that I'm headed for Convention in a month and am probably the most excited about meeting GCers. Well that, and Mall of America. lol.

IrishLake 06-07-2010 03:36 PM

Sigh.... I had a dream about going through recruitment again... but I was at a different school and had different friends.

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 03:40 PM

I keep a mental note of all wedding etiquette faux pas that I encounter to share with you guys.

knight_shadow 06-07-2010 03:51 PM

Co-sign on the "Ohh, I need to post this in ____" when something happens elsewhere (ie. I hear something on the radio or hear something interesting on the news).

Also, some of the GC-isms have slipped into my everyday speech (Most notably, __ITY?)

Pretty sad :o

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 03:54 PM

*When I dress shop with my friends, not gonna lie, I sometimes take mental notes of the ones with straps/sleeves to post here (because I know alot of GC brides don't like strapless). lol.

*When I get home from work, my priorities include:

1. change.
2. eat.
3. catch up on trainwrecks I missed during the day.

lovespink88 06-07-2010 03:58 PM

I too have had moments where I think to myself, "Oh! I gotta post this on GC!"

And similar to MC, I usually think of sororities if I see their symbols (and sometimes colors). But some symbols jump out at me more than others. For example, if I see a dolphin I'm not like TRI DELTA! But fleur-de-lises always make me think of Kappas and quatrefoils always make me think of Phi Mus. As far as colors go, anytime I see black and gold (or even black and yellow, sometimes) I think of Thetas immediately.

ForeverRoses 06-07-2010 03:59 PM

When I drive to chick-fil-a by the Pyramids and see all the HQs I always think of greek chat.

whenever I hear a breaking news story and come to GC- and find that a thread has already been posted

cheerfulgreek 06-07-2010 04:04 PM

Just when I post my thoughts in my favorite thread. And everyone knows what that thread is.:p

I do this all the time. I also do it at Johnny Rockets cos the red carnations make me thing of TKE. But I don't think it's related to this forum, I think that cos I'm a Greek Geek.

lovespink88 06-07-2010 04:06 PM

Thought of another...

When I tell my fiance about something funny I saw on GC (only him because he's the only one who knows my obsession).

cheerfulgreek 06-07-2010 04:09 PM

Or when I post pics of me from school/clinics, on here. Yikes!

LOL. I guess I can take comfort that I didn't think of all the fraternities that use red or white carnations.

LaneSig 06-07-2010 04:12 PM

When I return home from being on vacation for a week and within 30 minutes I'm on GC to see what I missed.

knight_shadow 06-07-2010 04:21 PM

Also, when I see people in my area that are wearing Greek letters, I start wondering "Hey, is that [username]?"

Very irrational, but who cares lol

Yes!

Also, telling stories about GCers. Like ree-Xi's sister's kids and their "dinosaur chicken nuggets".

ufdale joined my alumnae chapter. I almost met KDAngel when I went to a lunch hosted by KD on Capitol Hill, but she had to leave early for work.

I live near a large university and several community colleges. I work near SMU and several community colleges. Instead of thinking "Oh, that Greek must be from SMU/other school," I immediately think "Hey, is that [username]? S/he lives in DFW!" lol

I don't think I've actually run into any GCers IRL, though.

That is too funny because I do the SAME THING!

I would have to say another way I know I am addicted to GC is because as soon as I made a very important decision regarding careers and education, I immediately thought-I have to get this off my chest and besides my boyfriend, who do I tell...I know...GC! I also thought, if I have questions regarding grad schools and Ph.D. programs, there are some great GCers on here I know I can talk to. I also want to thank someone special for contacting me and letting me know my decision was not stupid-it was the right decision for me.

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 05:03 PM

I've been working on some sort of important task (like homework when I was still in school) and had a random revelation that a rush thread was fake or that This Sockpuppet = That GC User.

agzg 06-07-2010 05:04 PM

When I tell someone to GTFO. And I say Gee. Tee. Eff. Oh.

these.

when i laugh at something, and my bf asks what's funny, 50% of the time i say "it's something on my forum"
i had another one but i forgot :(

carnation 06-07-2010 05:13 PM

When you meet GCers IRL and call them by their GC name. I have done this 9-10 times and worse yet, since they didn't know what I looked like, I also went up and introduced myself as Carnation.

Stop trying to make "fetch" happen!

I also think of posting on GC when big things happen. I have one to post soon, but I haven't made my way over to the appropriate thread yet.

I've definitely started telling stories of funny things you all said.

Gusteau 06-07-2010 05:52 PM

When you go on GC tinychat and talk about GC...until Dr. Phil reminds you how lame that is.

When you take up a crusade to find AzTheta opal badge pictures, even though you're not a huge opal fan.

When you meet someone IRL in XYZ and you're tempted to say, "Oh I know someone in XYZ!" But that someone is from GC so you don't really know them.

When you think of agzg when you have an ice cream sandwich LOL.

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 05:57 PM

OK, it's good to know I'm not the only one/effing crazy.

pshsx1 06-07-2010 06:06 PM

Co sign 90% of this thread lmao.

When I wear letters out in public all day, and then check the "Finding Your Letters Somewhere You Didn't Expect" thread to see if a GCer spotted me.

When I talk to my Greek friends about Greek systems at schools all across the country and I always start off by saying "I was talking to this one ABC at Random University..."

Oh, and the fact that I know try to hound out GCers in public b/c I know some work/live in the DFW and Detroit Metro areas... lol

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 06:12 PM

I repeatedly stay up past my bedtime because a trainwreck is taking place and want to see it.

Oh Lord, ditto on both of those! And also ditto about saying (or being tempted to say) I know an XYZ, but it's really only from GC.

Dear Sleepless in Ohio: you're an inspiration to us all.

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 06:18 PM

I'm all proud and happy when the PNM (there's usually one out of the entire bunch) who has spent all summer on GC asking questions, being polite and taking advice ends up getting a bid and being happy once recruitment comes.

Ex: I remember being like that when WCsweet and a few other girls went through.

pshsx1 06-07-2010 06:22 PM

Oh!

When I open up the "DRUNK!!!" thread before I go out and make a point to get too drunk and make angry posts in said thread.

KSUViolet06 06-07-2010 06:24 PM

I can read the first sentence of a thread by a newbie and tell you that it's going to trainwreck.

I think of agzg when I have an ice cream sandwich... but really I'm thinking of myself and not my online persona - is that a sign I've had too much GC?

SWTXBelle 06-07-2010 06:32 PM

At the dinner for our sister from Arizona (check out "Stories of Sisterhood" for the whole scoop) my sisters commented on my freakishly comprehensive knowledge of what is going on in the greek world, not to mention my mad "To which GLO does ___________ belong?" skills. GC, baby!

^^^^THIS! One of my sorors asked "how do you keep up with what's going on in the greek world post undergrad?" and I reply "GC" nonchalantly, as if to say 'you ain't up on that?' lol so sad :(
