Joran van der Sloot, the 22-year-old Dutch playboy twice arrested in the mysterious disappearance of American Natalee Holloway, has been named the prime suspect in the death of a young Peruvian woman found dead in a Lima hotel today, five days after she disappeared.

Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, 21, disappeared Friday and was found dead this morning at the Miraflores Hotel Tac in Lima, Peru. Flores was last seen with van der Sloot, the Dutch national who was twice arrested and released in connection with the disappearance of Holloway , an 18-year-old American student who went missing in Aruba five years ago this week.

I just read that too, what a terrible shame! If only he'd been nailed for the Natalie Holloway murder, this young woman would be alive.

I know his dad died last year, but I'm curious to see his mother's reaction since she so vehemently defended him when the Holloway family was searching for answers, EVEN after he admitted he killed her on video with that undercover reporter years later.

Can I ask a silly question, bu this is something that always bugged me? What were a bunch of kids doing in Aruba for a senior class trip?

Is the question about Aruba in particular or that they went out of the country for the trip?

One more dead body and he might just qualify as a serial killer.

I call it the Lord, some may call it karma, but there's something to that anniversary. It's not just bad dumb luck!

I went to Jamaica with 8 other girls for my senior spring break. Another group went to Cancun. It's very common for seniors to go out of the country so they can drink. I look back on mine and think "wow that was stupid". Her mistake was getting in a car with a local.

Since the death penalty is probably out of the question in Peru (don't know their laws but suspect there is not a death penalty), I hope he becomes someone's lifetime Peruvian bitch.

It was a school tradition, apparently. They had been doing it for years. The school is in a pretty affluent suburb of Birmingham so it doesn't really surprise me.

Peru does have the death penalty but it's very unlikely that he will receive a death sentence. Peruvian prison is no joke; it will pretty much be a death sentence for him. A long drawn out painful existence that will reach its inevitable conclusion. His only hope is intervention from the Netherlands Embassy to insure his protection and even that will be a reach considering he is a Westerner who will most likely be convicted of murdering a Peruvian woman.

If the Netherlands is smart they'll slip out the back door on this one. He's an embarassment and they shouldn't waste an ounce of diplomatic capital on this guy.

As my mother said "I wonder if he has killed someone every year on this date and we just don't know/hasn't been noticed."

I heard that late last night, but my computer was acting up. I still can't get over him offering to tell the Hollaway family what happened to Natalee and where her body was for money.

Yes GMA reported this morning that he confessed, and the reason he killed her was because he caught her looking up info on him on his laptop. I'm glad this girl's father is a prominent person in Peru, it gives me hope Joran will be given the harshest punishment out there.

It is NOT connected to the school...groups of students from graduating classes at MBHS went to places like Jamaica and though this trip had the most attendees so far, they were all set up in basically the same manner, but none of them ever had any affiliation with the school.

I'm so glad they've finally caught him, but it is so unfortunate that he was able to murder another girl. If Natalee's investigation had been done correctly, he wouldn't have killed this girl in Peru.

It can be a school tradition without being officially sanctioned by the school. This isn't something that the school would have wanted to take liability for anyway, it's a tradition among the students.

Well I disagree with the way it's worded, but it's been a plague on the school since day one. People still claim it is a school tradition when it's not...community tradition would be more accurate. The school caught a lot of flack for a long time for something it actually had nothing to do with. I can't remember how many years grads had been going to Jamaica but I think the class above us was the first to go to Aruba.

(MBHS will not even let "class" trips to foreign countries by Spanish and French classes arrange the trips through them...no idea if that's par for the course for public school systems but I know they've always been particularly careful of distancing themselves from any trips legally. Except athletic events I guess?)

If it's students from the school going and not a group of grads from all over then I think it makes sense to call it a school tradition while acknowledging it's not an official trip.

I went to private school and we took trips that were sanctioned and through tour companies so, I don't know how it works elsewhere.

I get where you're coming from...I should be more clear in that I'm not arguing the point with you actually because you're right, that does make sense...I'm just use to being defensive on that point because so many people put the entire thing on the school.

Any trips we took were through tour companies and the teachers had to book them independently so that the school wasn't technically affiliated in any legal way (I'm assuming that was the point)...except for athletic events I'm guessing, since that's through the school by default. Anyway it was something that parents booked and then advertised through word of mouth. It's ironic it was the biggest trip yet because around half our grade went.

I always knew that his dad helped him cover up Natalie's death. He probably would have taken care of this one had he been alive. I hope he gets what he deserves..

And on a shallow note - this dude IS NOT cute! In fact, he looks psycho! If he approached me I would have ran in the other direction simply based on the "creepy" factor alone. Maybe its the accent....

Back then, before anyone knew he's completely bat-shit-crazy, he was just another asshole trying to pick up tourist girls on resorts, but he LOOKED completely normal. He told Natalee's friends he was a 19 year old exchange student from Holland (he was 17 and his family had lived on Aruba for a long time), and apparently he seemed perfectly friendly.

I did not think Natalee was a senior at the time of her disappearance.

Our local high school (a public school) offered a marine ecology class for seniors. For 32 years,their final included going down to Mexico about 200 miles. They camped out on the beach and studied the marine life there. The kids were gone for almost a week with LOTS of supervision from a combination of teachers and some parents. This was school sanctioned. Last year, the students did not get to go because of the violence in Mexico. The class was in an area with VERY little population, the kids could not leave.

There are programs which are not only a tradition in the schools, but are sanctioned such as this was. No idea if the class this year was able to go.

She graduated high school 6 days prior. We graduated on the 24th of May and she disappeared on the 30th. So technically...no, she wasn't a senior, she was a graduate.

This wasn't a sanctioned trip and was not supposed to be educational. It was blatantly a just-for-fun trip. A lot of people that I know went got the trip as a graduation present.

Honestly, I didn't think he was cute back then either. I think its his eyebrows that have always given me the willies.

He wouldn't have been my type either, but he seemed harmless enough, I guess, in the casino.
