so you think you can dance-summer 2010
begins tonight! will sex show up again? what about the jumpstyle power ranger?
|
I'm ok with power ranger showing up but Sex irritates the life out of me. I've danced my entire life, he's just mocking the entire dance world. On a more positive note, I'm sooooooo excited for the alum coming back! NEIL ftw:D
|
OMG I MISSED IT. :(
|
I missed it too :(, at least its just the audition show, imo now a days the audition shows just focus on bad dancers
|
What is the real story behind why Mary Murphy is not a fulltime judge? Granted, she got on my last nerve with all of that screaming, but I must have missed the scoop on why she is not back.
I agree, Tropical Dancer, I am so over the bad dancers. It feels very fake and like I am being manipulated. I didn't even feel very connected to the few good dancers they showed last night. On the other hand, I am excited about the new format and looking forward to SYTYCD!! |

WOOOOO WOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I missed it last night too because I was working! I'm so excited for the "all stars" and I can't wait for this season!!
But Mary Murphy DID get on my nerves sometimes...I had to turn down the volume sometimes. |
Why are they only having a top 10 this season? :-(
|
so excited!!!
i love this show so much more than american idol (probs the dancer in me talking though!) |
Is it just me, or have there just been more contemporary dancers out there in the past few seasons? Anyone ever been to the tour the top 10 does? I went one year (the year that Sabra won.. Jaimie was my favorite!!) and I absolutely had a ball!!!

My hubby bought me and my mom tickets for my birthday a couple years ago!! Actually, the same season...it was AH-mazing!! |
I'm not really digging the fact that they only have a top 11 and are dancing with "all stars," for the following reasons...
1) 11 Dancers (5 female, 6 male) is obviously very few. I feel like the audition rounds were mostly a waste because we kind of knew who was going to make it. Why did we waste so much time caring about the others? 2) While it's nice to see all the dancers from previous seasons return, I feel like they take my attention away from the contestants. 3) Because there are so few people, the contestants don't have time to learn and to build a fan base. When there's 20, there's more "expendable" people that you don't care about losing...and if you get a choreography stinker, you still have a chance to stick around. With 11, you are expected to be amazing from jump street. and 4) With such expectations, the level of butt kissing and set downs from the judges are even more over the top. On the plus side: 1) I like that the panel is isn't as loud with Mary gone. I do think she had some great commentary about the ballroom routines, but at other times she was just nutso. 2) I love most of the guys. I think Kent is ADORABLE and sweet. Billy is so talented and humble. Alex is powerful and a joy to watch. Jose reminds me of all the b-boy and hip hoppers I loved in previous seasons, and Robert is a pleasant surprise (since he was barely mentioned in auditions). |
I 100% agree with everything!! I spent most the dances looking at the all stars, not the contestants. I think if they wanted to do an alum show, do 20 all stars and no one new. The new stage has nothing on the old stage- there'll be nothing using stairs, coming up from the side...etc. Season 6 was fine to test it but they should've gone back... I did love Alex's dance (Canadian ballet dancer!!!), but overall, I was disappointed with the choreo last night. It's really going to affect some of the dancers, cutting their prep time in half essentially is going to make some pretty big waves.

i couldn't help but think how sad it was that they couldn't let everyone have one night where they all got a pass and no one would be voted off. hubby and i did enjoy last night and we loved seeing some of our favorites from seasons gone by.

And I feel REALLY stupid, but I didn't understand Alex and Allison's dance. I could feel the emotion, but couldn't pinpoint exactly what the emotion was or what was going on. |
Anyone else still watching?
I just caught last week's episode (although I haven't watched the results yet). I loved watching Kent stepping! And I'm glad they brought the dance style to the show. I also loved Lauren and Twitch's Wild West-type dance. And ok, Jose is cute when he smiles, but EVERY WEEK they tell him that he's not good enough to be on the show. Can we get rid of him, please? (if they haven't already) |
YES!
I've been waiting for a certain contestant to go home since the season started, but he's still hangin' in there! :-/ |
I think Jose and Adicheke will go home tomorrow night - unless the bottom three is different than I think it will be. Those two are the weakest imo at this point. But I do love Jose's sweet smile and genuine personality. Glad he made it this far.
Is anyone else getting a little tired of Billy? I definitely think he is a beautiful dancer but there is something about him that is not making me love him. I think Kent is adorable and will win. He has a lot of appeal - not the best dancer necessarily but loved by the masses. Also, does anyone else jump up and try to dance after the show is over? This 49+ year old woman can dream... |
I just started watching the show with the top 6. Loved Kent and Lauren. I hope the two of them are in the finale.
|
anyone watch tonight? i thought everyone did a good job, but i loved the sad clown dance that robert did the best.
sure seems like they are pushing kent. his dance was nice, but no where near worthy of the praise that was heaped on him-mia crying? puh-lease! |

I think Kent is an AMAZING dancer, and he's done well with everything that they've thrown at him, but I was a little   at Mia crying over his dance tonight. It was good, but not "break down in tears" good. However, I always love Travis' choreography! |
I also loved Robert and Dominic's dance, and I also think they push Kent way too hard. Then again, if I were to have to choose one of them to hire for a musical, it would be Kent.
I've never been an AdeChike fan, and I definitely think they want him to leave. He did one great number ("Falling" with Comfort), but for me he's just been playing catch-up all season. In my mind, Alex Wong won this season regardless of the final result. "Outta Your Mind" was ridiculously good. "Hallelujah" was inspiring and beautiful. Since they're letting him back in next season, I fully expect him to dominate. |

so, who's going home tonight?
ASTAlumna06, it is interesting that you don't like Robert. The judges have said that several times to him in the past. What is it about him that you don't care for? |
I think Adechike will finally go home tonight. Weeks overdue. Billy shouldn't have gone home last week. Also, if Lauren goes home I'm going to be upset. Girls need to start supporting other girls on these shows instead of voting for the boys they think are cute.
|
lauren, kent and robert are in the finals!

On top of that, I just don't think that he has the skills that some of the other dancers have. I predicted, after they picked the top 11, that basically all of the girls would be eliminated except Lauren. I don't think that any of the other girls brought anything to the table this year. In terms of the guys.. I would agree that Billy is an amazing dancer, but he never had the personality to pull it off... both when he was dancing, and when he wasn't. If Alex was still around, I guarantee it would have been him, Kent and Lauren in the finale. They were the best this season... every week. Hands down. |

In terms of disliking a dancer's personality, there was just something about Billy Bell's personality that I HATED. He just seemed so obviously full of himself. And I couldn't stand that he got to sit out and rest for a show (which, conveniently, was the episode on which he would have had to step). Since the prize includes a print campaign, I think Lauren should win. My husband says he will stop drinking Gatorade if Kent is in a print campaign for them. |
I'm addicted to this show!! While I like Kent and Robert, I really hope Lauren wins. She's an incredible dancer and has a great personality to boot.

On a tacky note, I kept hoping Billy would whiten his teeth. They looked very yellow every time he grinned. |
anyone watch last night? i thought they all did well, but what the heck was up with kent being so weird and creepy/serious after his dance with allison? my husband thinks it was a setup.
i was more impressed with robert and lauren than kent-i think that r & l out danced k last night. |
I think Robert and Lauren out performed Kent also, but I still think Kent will win. They are all 3 amazing dancers...I can't wait to go see the SYTYCD tour in New Orleans with my daughter (competition dancer for 12 yrs.)!! She went to see the tour in Tallahassee this past season and said it was amazing!! Can't wait for the new season to begin!!
|
lauren won!
|
Ha!! Guess I was wrong!! YaY Lauren!! LOL!!
|
Yay Lauren!
|
Oh, wow! Good for her! We need some more female winners!
I haven't even had time to finish last night's episode, but I would have been happy with any of the 3!! I totally thought Kent had it in the bag! |
I'm so thrilled that Lauren won, I thought for sure Kent would win but I stayed up last night and voted for Lauren for an hour, so at least she could have 2nd place. Her win makes me feel like my votes counted! I'm so happy, she's incredible.
|
Lauren has been one of my favs from the beginning of the season, so I'm glad she won! I think it helped a couple of weeks ago when one of the female judges made the comment that the girls needed to start supporting the girls for a change instead of just voting for the boys they thought were cute.
I think Lauren's solo sealed it for her last night. Her solo kicked ass. |
I'm not going to lie, I'm definitely disappointed. I think that Lauren got a lot of votes not for her dancing but rather the fact that she was the last female left. I thought Kent definitely improved far more over the season and had many more "big" pieces.
