Advice is needed
Hello to all,
My senior yr of hs was filled with [slack]ism lol. I applied to HU and got in but did not have the resume to get a scholarship. Hence, I ended up going to VSU, a schl in my state [GA]. [It was heart wrenching b/c I did not want to stay in state for schl but such is life...] Nevertheless, I learned my lesson and will be transferring to Vandy this fall=]] At my current schl, I didn't get involved as much because I knew in my heart that I was going to transfer.. somewhere.. one way or another. My ultimate goal is to be a Top Senior in 3 yrs or so and that means I need to get tip top grades && be involved tremendously. I already have a list of activities I want to do BUT I need advisers for the organizations i want to start. So finally, my question is: should I start looking for and emailing teachers now [at my new schl] even though I don't know them && seeing that it is summer time or should I wait til schl starts??? I want to be on top of things. Thank you mucho=]]] |

I don't think this has anything to do with Greekdom, correct? :) Just making sure before I swerve onto AKA Avenue. ETA: I have some buddies who attended both Valdosta State University and Vanderbilt. You are trying to start your OWN organizations? In that case, I would contact the student organizations office and see what their protocol and procedures are and what the norm is in contacting professors. Emailing the professors before the first day of class may or may not be frowned upon unless the professors are known supporters of a particular cause or group. Other than that, keep in mind that one of the most annoying things can be students emailing you before the semester has begun, and before you have met the student, about something that is not directly related to the course (and technically not related to academics at all). |

You're trying to start some organizations before you've started at Vanderbilt? The organizations you're try to create aren't already in existence? /swerve |
No, it does not=]]
|
Well, Im trying to start a chapter. BUT they are not Greek. The first is the Black Dolls Affair, the second is S.T.R.A.N.D.S which has to do with natural hair and transitioners. And the second is an honor society.... I guess I'm asking on here because.. well Greekdom is partly about leadership...
|
I'm confused.
huh? Did you want to be an AKA or are you trying to start an org. or are you trying to start something and get AKA sponsorship? |

done here.... Have at it GC'ers |
sorry third*

I don't know anything about those organizations but I recommend contacting the orgs themselves to ask about these things.
Also, are those double chinned smileys? |

Honestly, though, I'd focus on school before trying to start an organization (or 3). That's just me. |

I'm trying to word this right... so please bear with me.... when schl was in session&& Greek life was prevalent one [me] could assume that Greek life is/was partly about leadership so I figured that I would come on a Greek website&& ask for advice on leadership... that was all...

Contact the university. Don't contact the professors this early. Get used to campus before trying to start 234,012 organizations. |

The word is SCHOOL! Is it too long to write out??? As for asking for "advice on leadership," what leadership questions did you actually ask? What is wrong with people? |

Pardon me for my swerving into this lane Ladies:
O.k., maybe I didn't see the answer or maybe you've just avoided it, but here it goes: 1) Why did you come onto GC and AKA Ave to ask these questions? 2) What does AKA have to do with EITHER of these organizations? 3) What do these organizations (Black Doll Society and STRANDS) have to do with leadership? Like I said, maybe I just missed it, but why are you here? Swerve out. |

In college, most writings do not have misspellings. So you would want to work on that. And you normally have professors, instructors or lecturers, not teachers... I think you need to think about "HOW TO GO TO COLLEGE" before you actually consider joining anything...That aligns with "HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE"... And I'm locking this thread as I have better things to do than to deal with an inappropriate thread... |
