GC DSRM - Compendium of Crazy
As we know, GC is full of crazy. But when it comes in so many different varieties it can be incredibly difficult to keep track of what kind of crazy you're working with in any given thread.
In this thread we list the different types of GC crazy to provide a reference tool for future GC interactions. Note: Although the word crazy is and will be used consistently throughout it is not meant to indicate mental illness. Having a mental illness is a lifetime struggle filled with much persecution, being GC crazy could be avoided by STFU. Recommended format for posting about the crazy ------------ Crazy type Crazy description including quotes of any notable examples of this crazy. Suggested methods of handling of the crazy Recent sitings of the crazy. Or post however the eff you want, that's as much of an introduction as this is getting. |
The start of this thread by itself is crazy...but give me a few....
Matter of fact I will give someone the head start... The Drama Queen Flouncer (type of crazy - COMMON) - This crazy will typically start a 1st post on GC with a seemingly innocent question, for instance "how to be a part of XYZ sorority". When they get a typical GC response that they can't endure, a tirade ensues which could last anywhere to 3 to 6 pages deep with the DQ being told 6 different ways to Sunday how wrong their approach was with typical comments such as "well my GPA is 3.999" or "my _________ is in XYZ Sorority and she can get me in" and eventually it may even lead the poster to wonder why they are being treated like this on a Greek site. It usually ends with the poster saying that they are leaving....but takes 3 or 4 more posts before they actually leave. There is no one right way to handle this type crazy short of if you have an inkling of who this person may be IRL, passing the word along. |
And, no, this isn't the same as that trainwreck thread.
And, no, we don't need reminders of the trolls and sockpuppets that we have already discussed. And, no, I don't have anything else to contribute because my idea of a thread like this is completely messy and superexcitingly snarktastic. |

Drunk Crazy (Rare but persistent)
This type of crazy posts primarily while intoxicated, or communicates so poorly that s/he might as well be drunk anyway because it couldn't hurt. Prone to incredibly off the wall remarks, overuse of smileys particularly , and posts so confusing that even if you weren't trying to snark them you would need a translation. This poster may frequently be defended by brothers/sisters as well as various "white knights" who insist that this type of crazy is really just "of another generation," "not good with computers" or "a good guy in person." None of these excuse the crazy. Popular ways to handle this crazy are by snarky 'translations' of everything s/he says, reminder of previous idiotic things that s/he said, and refusing to address the actual point of his/her posts. It's not like s/he will say anything productive anyway. After many years these posters may be banned and yet still attempt to come back under various sockpuppets (see sockpuppet crazy). |
^^^ this may be as close as we can get....I think there may be a subheading added later.

A native of the Land of Happy Rainbow Ponies, this is a crazy of rare but earpic magnitude. Characterized by an almost incomprehensible syntax (unless the reader is intoxicated), an overuse of smilies, reliance on monosyllabic interjections (e.g., "Dah!") and a tendency to spell the word sorority as soroity, this type of crazy exhibits an extreme "gung ho" attitude to all things Greek in general and to the crazy's own GLO in particular. The knowledge possessed by someone with this form of crazy may lull unsuspecting readers into believing that the crazy always knows what he is talking about, when in fact he is frequently clueless. While he may at first appear benign and supportive, any suggestion that he is, in fact, crazy -- or worse, wrong -- will be met by extreme rudeness, profanity and vulgarity, often of a sexist or racist nature. Threatening him too much may cause him to contact an inter/national president to seek the revocation of the offending person's GLO membership. This banned type of crazy shows a particular tenacity, repeatedly creating new identities in the sincere but naive belief that other GCers will not recognize the tell-tale symptoms of earpic crazy. As with a rabid animal, the earpic crazy is best avoided; sightings should be reported to the proper authorities. |

Now I need a GC Victim crazy...think about it.

There are too many actual crazy people on here for me to not get personal. I'm one of them, of course. I have congenital flipits.

Someone more skilled than I needs to add "Pageant Crazy" and its associated "Perping Crazy" to the compendium.
Don't forget the pink sequined pantyhose crossover! |
Brilliant thread, Drollefille! This one could last forever and ever and ever...
|
Could someone please add the "Notice Me, Notice Me...I'll say anything crazy to get attention!" or just the plain, "Pleassssseeee, Notice me, I'M DESPERATE FOR ATTENTION" nuts that find their way around here.

Can I request a definition for Frodo Baggins crazy?

Evangelical Crazy
While his fervent faith in God and humanity is uplifting and in some ways inspiring, the evangelical crazy is characterized by a forgetful nature (e.g. posting the exact same thread, with the exact same poll, in the exact same forum multiple times) and an unwavering ability to ignore the "we don't do that here" and subsequent mocking posts to all of his threads. Some GCers think that the Evangelical Crazy actually believes that he can save our souls, making the knowledge that we've already gone to hell in a handbasket all that much more depressing. Other signs of an evangelical crazy include: Thinking they know what God or [insert deity here] is thinking. An non-ability to talk about anything but prayer and saving souls and heaven and hell. Unflappable optimism, followed by brutal disappointment then uncontrollable anger when the evangelical crazy realizes that not only can he not save us, we don't want to be saved by him. Please see HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE Unfortunately, the first HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN WHEN YOU DIE isn't showing up in my search. |
Bumping in honor of the recent trip to Crazy, GC.
I was going to contribute a description of our most recent Crazy, but I got sidetracked and read this thread instead. Oh well. |
I laugh when I read the title. I don't think I can make it through the actual thread.

Geriatric Syndrome
While not an extreme psychosis, the GS Patient is a particularly stubborn breed who have delusions of living out their dream to become Greek well after traditional student years. This can manifest in many ways, including but not limited to, rushing with undergrads as a grad student, attempting COB in the second semester of your senior year, or the ever popular Quest for AI. For full diagnosis of GS must exhibit a failure to accept that "their ship has sailed". First response symptoms include creating threads with titles that include the words "Am I Too Old". Intervention should be staged immediatly to prevent the syndrome from spreading. |
