Miss USA 2010

Anybody watching?

ASUADPi 05-16-2010 07:47 PM

Just turned it on.

Any greeks?

IHeartUGA 05-16-2010 07:48 PM

Alabama is a Pi Phi at Auburn, Miss Georgia, Cassidy Lance (friend from high school, too) was a Phi Mu at UGA.

IHeartUGA 05-16-2010 08:02 PM

South Carolina is a KD at Furman.

KSUViolet06 05-16-2010 08:08 PM

I LOVED Michigan's evening gown.

She's probably my fave at this point.

Kappamd 05-16-2010 08:15 PM

That yellow gown was god-awful.

KSUViolet06 05-16-2010 08:17 PM

I don't undertand how some of the gowns have one full sleeve, one no sleeve, and a cut out in the side. Too much.

IHeartUGA 05-16-2010 08:19 PM

Miss Texas, Kelsey Moore, is also from Savannah. She went to Savannah Christian Prep.

violetpretty 05-16-2010 08:33 PM

Miss Virginia is a Kappa from William & Mary.

DreamfulSpirit 05-17-2010 12:28 AM

Never got to see Maine's final question because my NBC channel cut out because of severe weather.

PM_Mama00 05-17-2010 01:08 AM

Miss Michigan just graduated from my Alma Mater not too long ago!

Sister Havana 05-17-2010 01:11 AM

Glad Miss Michigan won. She is stunning.

Other Greeks:
Miss Massachusetts is a Delta Gamma from USC.
Miss Kansas is a Delta Delta Delta from Oklahoma.
Miss District of Columbia is a Kappa from University of Miami.
Miss Arkansas is a Pi Phi from Arkansas.

honeychile 05-17-2010 01:36 AM

The Adelphean mentioned in the last issue that one was an ADPi. With my half-packed/half-moved/half-where is it? houses, I forget which one. I want to say Kentucky, but don't quote me on that.

MaggieXi 05-17-2010 10:49 AM

Katherine Elizabeth Southard (Miss North Carolina) is an AOTT from Epsilon Chi chapter at Elon Univ.

Sheesh...she's wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

I read it was a stripping contest put on by a local radio station and that strippers were the judges.

She probably had less clothes on for the "racy" Miss USA photo shoot. Who cares?

It was a POLE dancing contest, not a stripping contest. There is a difference. Lots of women are taking pole dancing as an exercise class.

I will say that I have seen much worse from a newly-crowned contestant as far as pics/behavior are concerned.

Tara Conner (Miss USA 2006) was admittedly high on cocaine during the entire competition.

baci 05-19-2010 08:22 AM

I just expect way higher standards from the woman who wins Miss USA. I don't want to see pole dancing pictures, suggestive pictures, anything regarding drugs/drinking, and who knows what else. Call me an old soul or whatever, but too many little girls look up to these pageant contestants and winners. Sure, parents need to monitor their children and such, but little girls watch these women with open eyes and they have big dreams. These dreams of our little girls may pass in time, but it really is not too hard to find a lovely young woman to crown with a clean background for girls to look up to. It is sad that it is all about controversy, press, and money. At some point we really have to care about our little girls who just don't understand it all.

The sad thing is...I don't. Miss America? Sure. But I feel like I've come to expect seeing this sort of stuff from Miss USA. As KSUViolet said, this almost seems mild compared to some of the other things that have come out of that circuit.

Would I prefer higher standards? Obviously. But I wouldn't hold my breath. Trump seems to thrive off of the scandals.

RU OX Alum 05-19-2010 09:22 AM

Miss USA is a joke and has been ever since that Carrie (Kerri?) Prejan thing.

baci 05-19-2010 10:11 AM

Better word choice would have been the way for me to go -- These contests have become a joke. My expectations are way higher. I would hope/wish others prefer much higher standards as well. I am sure there are some that do.

Unfortunately I'm not sure you can find many girls around that age who haven't had pictures taken of them drinking or dancing. This is what our world is now.

Not just now! In the 50's a woman from Baltimore won the crown under an assumed name and had to step down the next day when mavens from Baltimore recognized her as the wife of a deployed serviceman who had also been previously married and divorced at the tender age of 14. She went on to a little bit of fame and notoriety that she parlayed into two movies in Hollywood! I just heard this on NPR driving to work yesterday on the Baltimore station!

Nothing is wrong with drinking or dancing and nothing is wrong with having your picture taken while doing so.

If you don't want your daughter to watch miss usa don't let her watch miss usa, the behavior of the models outside of the modeling competetion really isn't relevant.

jessica.lanelle 05-19-2010 11:59 AM

Miss USA is a trashier pageant than Miss America, so anything the contestants get caught doing does not surprise me.

FHwku 05-19-2010 01:13 PM

i don't think either way about it. i just posted it 'cause it was the first thing that came up when i googled Miss USA that day to see who won.

it reminded me of

"sometimes, i'm walking with my daughter, i'm talking to my daughter, i'm looking at her, i'm pushing her in the stroller. and sometimes i pick her up, and i just stare at her, and i realize my only job in life is to keep her off the pole."

That was my point. Most late teens and early 20s girls will have these kinds of pics in their facebooks and myspaces. There IS something wrong with binge drinking and getting trashed to the point of falling down, but she looks like she was just having fun at that class.

In other news regarding her, she was on the Wendy Williams show today. Her personality reminded me of most of the girls we went to college with.

Not me, I wasn't passing judgement, just simply stating what I had read. I don't even watch pageants and don't really care what the contestants do in their spare time.
