Goodbye L&O, hello LOLA

I know this was mentioned in the what do you feel like saying thread, but the last episode of Law & Order will be aired on May 24th.

In its place, the network will be picking up another spinoff: Law & Order Los Angeles.

Will you be watching? Do you think it will last like SVU and CI, or will it die out like Trial & Jury?

link

p.s CI with Goren pwns, though SVU is always a close 2nd :D

33girl 05-14-2010 06:18 PM

It will die in 2.5 seconds.

I can't believe they're cancelling L & O original when it finally has a cast that gels, and keeping SVU which is nothing more than a boring sermon about the cause of the week and Olivia going on some lameass undercover mission where her tits may or may not accidentally pop out.

IrishLake 05-14-2010 06:19 PM

I stopped watching the original L&O when Larry Orbach died. Never even saw the trial by jury version. i watch reruns of the SVU... but i think its just overkill. good shows, but the cast is what makes it. i wont be watching LOLA, same way i dont watch CSINY or CSIMiami (thats mostly because david carusoe gives me the creeps though).

Fixed your post :)

knight_shadow 05-14-2010 06:23 PM

I saw this mess earlier. I think it'll die like TBJ (and like Criminal Intent should).

This is why I stick with SVU.

i stopped watching CSI Miami because of him. i just can't stand him and his corny lines. it kills me inside.

I still like SVU the best, but the original seems to be working for me again too. I don't think LOLA would last long unless the cast just works together. I think that's how SVU and CI have survived, and CI seems to do well on cable these days I'm just not a fan.

ASUADPi 05-14-2010 09:00 PM

I too prefer SVU the best. I just wish they could find an actor/actress to be a permenant ADA. I was beyond thrilled when they brought Stephanie March back (Cabot) but then they wrote her character out again.

First of all

SVU>

Mariska Hargitay>

Mariska Hargitay's left titty> your life

Secondly, I can appreciate CI, but I don't watch it.

I also don't watch the original, but they could have given it one more year.

I LOVED Trial by Jury. BOO on them for canceling it.

agzg 05-14-2010 10:34 PM

This is the bullshittiest bullshit I can think of.

I mean, the Conan v. Jay Leno shit sucked (going to see CoCo next week OMG!).

But, this is the worst thing ever.

Sulk.

tinydancer 05-14-2010 10:38 PM

Well, I have got to say that if and when SVU goes away, I'm going to be crabby if I don't have my Richard Belzer fix.

Leslie Anne 05-14-2010 10:49 PM

I'm another one who stopped watching L&O when Jerry Orbach died. Still not thrilled about the show ending though. I usually just watch SVU.

KSUViolet06 05-14-2010 10:57 PM

This sucks, but looking at my DVR, I think I watch SVU more anyway.

33girl 05-15-2010 10:50 AM

As far as CI is concerned, IMO it doesn't exist now that Goren and Eames are gone. It's now the Jeff Goldblum Show.

agzg - if Conan still has his beard tell him for me that he needs to keep it - I think it's totally sexy.

smiley21 05-15-2010 07:25 PM

I have to look at L&O: LA, because I am so curious. I am forever a follower of SVU and I still love the original. CI is just boring now and I miss TBJ.

Anyone remember L&O: Crime and Punishment? Now THAT was a strange one. It was the one showing real court cases. It was like watching an hour version of those court channels. It was just too hard to watch without the familiar formats.

I adored L&O:Crime and Punishment. I think it was on for two summers in a row. I liked how it was "just like" the show, in terms of the first half being about solving the crime and the second half being about the prosecution.

Yeah, that was a good one. They always take the good shows off the air, though. Skin only lasted for half a season and it was the best thing that was on in a while.

AnotherKD 05-17-2010 10:15 AM

I always had a little crush on Jack McCoy, but lately he's just turned into a crochety old man. I think they've just kept it on the air for the last few years simply because it was L&O. So at least I saw this one coming!

Ditto on McCoy, but with the current ADAs all I see is "Batman's Dad." I'm sure the guy has done other roles besides that, but in my head... "Batman's Dad."

I'll give it a try, but I think it will die out pretty quickly.

L&O has a habit of recycling actors for different roles, and I hate that because I've seen just about all of them at least once. Some of them, I can see the first 10 seconds and tell you what will happen in the next hour. The one that absolutely killed me, though, is the chick that plays Elliot's wife was in a fairly memorable L&O episode before she appeared on SVU, and her L&O character was executed for killing a cop.

I think I need help. I wonder if there are any L&O Anonymous groups out there, haha!!!

I do the exact same thing! It's bad too if you go to any shows in NYC because EVERYONE on Broadway has done L&O at some point. I'll sit through a show whispering to my husband or my friend, Wes, "Yeah, that's the guy that went crazy and killed the girl who was working with him at the mental clinic. He turned out to be a lawyer, and he defended himself once he got back on his meds."

And I know exactly what episode you're talking about. :-/

Speaking of crazy people, there's one chick that plays a girl who is crazy, on a bunch of meds, rich, and named Mercedes, and is somewhat of a main character in an episode. And she's a main character in another episode, where she is crazy again with multiple personality disorder. Talk about being pigeonholed.

I like most episodes- the ones that I can't stand are the "ripped from the headlines" bullcrap. Maybe that's another reason why I like the older ones better.

Didn't one of the ADAs appear as a rapists first? The redhead who's name escapes me. Novak?

A couple of the regulars first showed up as perps...one of the first female cops and one of the ADAs were prostitutes before they got the regular gigs.
