Yikes @ outing your founder and naming your school. What happened to keeping family business out of the public eye?

ETA: how does a sorority with an online school work?

Wow @ all your crap being out there.

According to your FB page, you're graduating this year. How can you be president if you're graduating?

dawnmarie 05-02-2010 03:21 PM

If you have bylaws, codes of conduct, etc. then why don't you go through the procedures that should be detailed there? If there aren't any procedures, your sorority will have to deal with that as a whole.

Do your sisters generally agree with you about the issues with your founder? From this site, it's hard to tell. It seems like you and your sisters have a lot more to work out than just the issue with one of your founders.

There is no excuse to be in your 30s and not realize that the internet is a public forum. You put your school name out there. In an attempt to learn more about the sorority whose founder you publicly threw under the bus (in hopes of helping you), I Googled your school name and the word "sorority", and the name of your sorority popped up. From there, I could see your full name and thus a link to your FB.

As for accusing me of being presumptuous - how is it overstepping bounds to use Google? Did I out your name, your sorority, or the crap posted on your public message board (yes, that popped up in my first search)? You have a lot of personal information out there. You should be more discriminating if you don't want people to find all this out with a single Google search.

And for the record, if you are in your 30s and in college, you should have been spelling. Not being snarky, but one tenet that sororities and fraternities typically subscribe to is academic excellence.

Unfortunately, because your "sorority" is online, I am not sure how much people can really help here, bc 99.99% of people here who are Greek belong to organizations which have a physical presence.

Eh, the information in this thread is NOTHING compared to the dirty laundry on the school message board. Clean your shit up!

dawnmarie 05-02-2010 04:58 PM

ok...THAT site IS private!!! wow....

bostongreek 05-02-2010 05:00 PM

It's only private if you make it private. Which you didn't.

Welcome to the internet!

Honestly, date doesn't really matter when it's one of the first things I find when googling your school's name+sorority.

Pingyang 05-02-2010 05:26 PM

Your sorority board comes up on the first page of a Google search using the exact words in your signature. It's nowhere near private.

If you want to make your sorority's message board private, see:
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/create-a-private-forum/
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...f=46&t=1315605

Something dated from this year (January 2010) on the college message board is relevant, particularly when it involves chapter finances.

ree-Xi 05-02-2010 05:33 PM

http://abzcybersorority.org/effectiv...read-t189.html

Not so private. PS I like the changes. The red and white was so boring.

Seriously, though, you have links and info that tell people where you work, health information, and more identifying info. People here are just trying to let you know that your info is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Please, for the sake of you and your friends, make this private.

ETA: I cropped the pic to take out your name. Not that it's not everywhere else.

dreamseeker 05-02-2010 05:34 PM

Ctfu...not as private as you thought apparently :p

agzg 05-02-2010 05:37 PM

In my opinion, this is one of the reasons sororities in an online setting don't work. In traditional sororities, there's often no lingering proof of what went on behind closed doors, it's all she said/she said, whereas online it's allllll out there.

Message boards are relatively easy to hack, too. So... good luck keeping that stuff private. This is also why we tell newbies here at GC not to post too much identifying information, if they're a PNM, and don't encourage members to post about private chapter business. Teh intarwebs nevah fo'get.

Barbie's_Rush 05-02-2010 06:09 PM

I'll take train wrecks for 500, Alex.

OP, you and your "sorority" are one big stinking hot mess.

33girl 05-02-2010 06:13 PM

Is the motto of this sorority/Ashworth College "Eradicating the Godless Apostrophe"?

chickenoodle 05-02-2010 06:16 PM

...

Really? You're shocked that people noticed you all over the internet?

How the hell are you going to find a job? Most employers will Google prospective employees and if this is what they see, you're screwed.

This thread is totally going in the trainwreck thread.

Ooh La La 05-02-2010 06:18 PM

The date I saw on that was from January...

And wow. Just wow.

She is in her 30s and has a real job (hence my horror at the spelling, grammar and punctuation). That one Google search brings up a whole slew of forum posts that share too much information. I actually feel bad that someone in their late 30s didn't think to CHECK that the forum she thought was private, was actually private.

Snarkiness aside, I still don't get how a sorority can exist online. Few (3 or 4) people attend your meetings (apparently don't follow Robert's rules bc how can you have quorum?), your social events are held on Facebook Game applications, and membership is dependent on the frequency of forum posts. I don't understand how you can develop or maintain a "sisterhood" of 35 people when you probably have never all been in a room together? What are the criteria for "member intake"? Sure, having a place to go online is great and fun, and far be it for me to try to deprive someone from doing what they want, but why does it have to be a Greek-letter sorority? If you want to be part of a social group IRL, there are many places, even an adult community sorority. I'd love to know HOW this all operates.

summer_gphib 05-02-2010 06:59 PM

Why in one place did you call it Alpha Beta Eta, if it's Alpha Beta Zeta? (That's on your website, btw.)

I wonder if they have a Facebook application for their rituals? They'd save a lot of money on battery operated candles by using the glow of a monitor instead.

It's pretty apparent that it does not operate well.

OP, if you really want your sorority to be respected, you need to respect your sorority and your sisters. Don't out the founder for "being lazy". Without her, you wouldn't have your sorority at all. If you want people to take you seriously, use proper grammar and check your spelling.

IrishLake 05-02-2010 07:27 PM

While I give them credit for trying, I just dont see how this group can succeed. You've had 3 presidents in 4 months, but those who have resigned are still active officers. Like someone else said, the issues with your founder are just the tip of the iceburg. In no way should blame be placed on her alone. Now, I'm not prying for details, but how exactly is ritual conducted? Is it all online? Is there a video chat feature? Is there ritual aside from what the world can see on your website? What about service? Service is more than just donating money so you can write it off on your taxes at the end of the year. Can new members join at any time? Have you followed through and kicked members out who haven't posted on your forum board during certain periods of time? How can you have successful chapter meetings with just 3 or 4 women out of so many present? There should be no excuse, especially if you're only holding meetings online once a month.

How to become a member (I removed the name):OPEN MEMBERSHIP

http://forum.ashworthcollege.edu/sty...ost_target.gifby XXXXXXXXXXXX » January 11th, 2009, 11:43 am
I am happy to announce that Alpha Beta Zeta is accepting requests for Membership through the end of February 2009. If you are interested in becoming a member, please go to

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/alphabetazeta/

You must be in a post-high school program and be 18 or older in order to join. Once you have requested membership, one of the officers will send you a copy of our bylaws and code of conduct. If you are agreeable to these, then you will reply to the message that you have read and agree to them. At that point, you will then be sent via email, the actual Membership form. When that has been received you will then be assigned to a sister and become a member. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

It's almost as good as when we found the Alpha Eta Omega (A-HO) sorority of two advertising for new members on craigslist.

"Ya know, for someone who has only posted 4 times you sure THINK you know who I am..Where have YOU been in helping students? Where have YOU been in helping getting ANYTHING started, unless of course you are posting under an assumed name. It is so easy to criticize someone you THINK you know, someone you have never interacted with.

If this continues, then I will have one of my attorney's process paperwork to have you investigated for cyber bullying and defamation of character. I have already printed out the barrage of negative posts against Sierra and myself and have turned them over to my attorney. She assures me I have a case should I choose to pursue it."

That is the last post on that forum thread. I had to laugh... seriously? Cyber bullying? DoC? Legal Case? BAWAHAHAHAHAHA!
