Beta Zeta Chapter of AOII installed today at Kennesaw State University

Congratulations to our new sisters at the 188th collegiate chapter installed into Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity! Welcome!!! I am waiting to hear what Beta Zeta means. That's my favorite part of new installations, the sub-mottos!

violetpretty 04-24-2010 02:13 PM

An excellent choice in chapter name, I must say.

Ha! I'm sure they'd agree!

Gusteau 04-24-2010 05:51 PM

Congratulations to them - our Kennesaw Chapter was just chartered last weekend!

AZTheta 04-24-2010 06:02 PM

Congratulations to AOII. I've never attended a charter/installation for Kappa Alpha Theta and would really love to, some day.

AXiDMeesh 04-24-2010 06:05 PM

They are some very sweet girls. Congratulations!!

carnation 04-24-2010 06:24 PM

Yay AOII! Kennesaw is very close to us and Baby Berry and ASLFRose are expecting to write a ton of recs for PNMs!

twinkle555 04-24-2010 07:01 PM

yeaaaa AOII!!!

AOII Angel 04-24-2010 07:20 PM

Just found out that the Beta Zeta sub-motto is "Live simply, love always." I like it! Sounds very AOII!

GuitarAOII 04-24-2010 07:34 PM

Congratulations to the new AOIIs and our new chapter! I love their sub-motto!

AOII Angel 04-25-2010 03:04 PM

The sisters of Beta Zeta chose their chapter designation to honor our International President Barb Zipperian. Isn't that sweet?! I'm sure Barb is very honored. I think this is her first chapter installation.

How did you find that out? That's so sweet though. I'm curious to know if that's the first time a chapter has chosen its name to reflect an International President (or Past International President).

I asked on FB. I wanted to know why they picked those letters since unlike most chapters, their letters don't match their sub-motto. No to your second question. Phi Chi at Univ of Chicago was named for Peg Crawford (one of my favorite PIPs) because she was instrumental in getting AOII chosen as the first NPC to colonize that campus. There are many other chapters who were named after influential alumnae, not just International Presidents (Auburn is another example), or even other collegiate chapters that assisted in colonization (ex. Kappa at Randolph-Macon helped colonize the chapter at Southern Methodist so the women at Southern Methodist named their chapter Nu Kappa in honor of Kappa. Both are now inactive.)

Congrats!

Ah, Peg. I have heard about her from our girls that met her at Convention last year. Maybe I'll meet her one day haha.

Thanks for answering my question! You're just full of knowledge lol.

Best of luck to Beta Zeta!

All courtesy of our Centennial history book! :D I'm an AOII history junkie and a little of it sticks!

That's part of the fun of a chapter being able to choose their chapter name and submotto, it helps solidify the individuality of the chapter. I believe there are even a few chapters who honor someone and have the sub-motto match those letters. I think there was even a recently chartered chapter whose sub-motto is in Greek like early the early chapters - can't remember which one or I could even be imagining that one. . . .

You're thinking of St. Louis University. They use a Greek sub-motto. I'll have to search for the exact sub-motto. It's on GC, though.

The Tennessee Omicron tradition began with Vanderbilt who named their chapter Nu Omicron to honor Omicron chapter at UT-Knoxville for their help with extension, like Southern Methodist did with Kappa chapter.

I'm and AOII at KSU

Hey Ladies :)

Thank you all on behalf of Beta Zeta :)

And just so you know our sub motto is "Live Simply, Love Always".

Sigma Kappa doesn't get to choose our chapter designations---we go in order---but my chapter's installation was timed so that they could be Beta Zeta to honor the nearby Zeta chapter at George Washington University!

Congratulations to the Beta Zeta chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi on your installation!

It's actually Washington University which chose Delta Kappa with the submotto of Kalokagathia meaning Excellent/Beautiful and Good (taken from My AOII). Not exactly the same as the early chapters whose entire motto is the chapter letters, but Kappa by itself is not available.

I only mentioned the Tennessee state and Omicron tradition because its one of the interesting/fun traditions chapters adopted when choosing a chapter name. There is also those chapters who choose their chapter name honoring their school (Nu Iota, Epsilon Chi, Lambda Upsilon, Iota Sigma, etc). You also have a bunch of Kentucky chapters that have Omega in their names - to give a number of examples AOII has. Other groups have somewhat similar traditions as well. Alpha Gamma Delta, I believe that's the group which does this, names chapters alphabetically but regionally as well (so Epsilon Alpha could be older than Gamma Alpha due to different regions). Or Delta Phi Epsilon which named their chapters alphabetically starting with single letters, the doubles starting with Delta, Phi and Epsilon before starting the double letter Alphas (so Delta Alpha is older than Alpha Alpha).

in St. Louis...that school has too many names:D That's exactly the one I thought you were talking about!

That's cool. Every once in awhile you hear about a chapter that falls in order so that you can make something like that work out.

I'm an initiate of the Beta Zeta chapter of AOII. AOII Angel was right, our motto is "Live Simply, Love Always." We named our chapter after Barb Zipperian, who actually installed the chapter. VERY exciting for us, especially since initiation was a new experience. She gave a speech during our Rose Banquet that night and told us she is very honored that we named our chapter after her and she expects us to hold the highest standards possible. I certainly don't want to let her down!!

Welcome to the AOII family! I wish your chapter the best of luck with upholding our standards! Learn our ritual...that's the best place to start! Barb is wonderful, isn't she?!

Barb is amazing! So sweet and loving. I am so glad we decided to name the chapter after her. Our resident consultant tried to stress to us what a big deal it was that the International President was installing our chapter - and it was her first time as well. I don't think I realized just how monumental an event it was until after our Rose Banquet was over. I had a wonderful time.

Trust me...Barb will always have a very special place in her heart for your chapter! At the last convention when our last IP, Susan Danko, was going out, she literally teared up introducing the chapters that had been chartered during her administration. Sisters even donated Life Loyal memberships to each chapter in honor of Susan to commemorate her presidency.

GuitarAOII 04-30-2010 04:24 PM

She will probably mention Beta Zeta constantly at LI in June. When I was at Leaders Academy this past February she always mentioned or gave a shout out to her chapter, Kappa Kappa (I'm pretty sure it was the Munice chapter).

Anyway, keep an ear out at AOII gatherings and such because she'll have one more chapter to give a shout out to! She's so sweet and funny, it's almost sickening :p haha.

Tomorrow night, Beta Zeta will initiate their first pledge class since their installation in April. Glad I get to be there to watch these ladies share our beautiful Ritual for the first time!

How cool to be the Chapter President who gets to initiate the first pledge class. I can't believe 6 weeks is up already. Initiation comes so quickly, but then again, my 17 year AOII anniversary was October 1st!
