Kappa Kappa Gamma at Indiana University.
I go to IU and I was going to rush my freshman year but rush was so close to my final exams that I decided to wait until sophomore year. I have had my eye on KKG for many reasons and I wanted to know if anybody had any experiences or encounters with KKG. Any advice? Are letters of reccomendation a must? ( I have two KKG friends at another school). How were the girls? Any tid bits at all will be really appreciated.
I am not looking at them for the elitism or prestige etc nor am I rushing because my friends are in it. I am not asking how I should act or dress, I simply am curious about the kappa ways. I understand my opinion will likely change when I rush but for now, they are one of my interests. Thanks! |
Oh my...sigh
I suggest you first do some reading on GC. There is a wealth of general info about some of the questions you ask. However, you will also find out that no one will give you information about a specific group on a specific campus. Our goal is to promote Greek life, not a specific group. General questions about IU recruitment - yes. Specific questions about KKG - no |

No one should be your goal. That puts a bias in your mind before you start recruitment. If you go to the parties and decide you love ABC or XYZ, for all means, go for it, but don't go for a chapter just because your friends are. Besides, if you have to ask us about what they're looking for, you're not being yourself. If you're not being yourself, you're not allowing yourself the opportunity to find your true home. I really encourage you to keep an open mind, because IU has a great Greek life and anyone should feel excited to be a part of any chapter there. Good luck in recruitment when it happens. Be yourself. Go where your heart thinks you belong, not where you know your friends (from other schools) belong. Sorry for the rant, but as a KKG, it's not fair to us if you try and manipulate your way in by acting like someone other than yourself. More so, it's not fair to the other chapters there that you aren't giving a chance completely. |

IU has a VERY strong Greek community and you should keep an open mind to all chapters. Quite a bit has been written on GC about IU and recruitment, so I would suggest doing some reading about the system and what you're in for. Good luck! http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...hlight=Indiana http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...hlight=Indiana http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...hlight=Indiana |
I really appreciate the help! I think everyone misunderstood my questions. I am not asking for advice on how to act and I do understand I may not like kappa or they may cut me. I am just wanting to know more about them than what I have gathered from campus. And I am not interested in kkg merely because my friends are, I have plenty of other friends from different sororities. I am very confident in myself and would not alter my image to fit a sorority. Thanks!

If you're at IU and want to know more specifically about that chapter, I'll take a page from our NPHC GCers' playbook and say that if you can't find it on the website or learn it from being friends with members of that chapter or observing the members on campus...it's not anything you need to know. |
LOLzzzz... one of the WORST possible universities to go into recruitment only wanting one chapter
|
I don't want only one chapter. I am just interested in it.

Okay dokay... I appreciate the people who offered advice but I think everybody else on here needs to calm done and tone down on the bitchy. I am neither impressed nor intimidated by your "insider" information. I was simply asking a harmless question on KKG. I am not looking to force my way into it or that intensly interested. You don't need to look into it that deeply or be so guarded and upset. I thought the idea of a forum was asking questions. I am coming to the conclusion that maybe sororities are not that nuturing and supportive and that you are all a bit obsessed with yourselves. I was figuring since you all preach "sisterhood", that you would be helpful. I am going to return to reality now. So long.

Oh, and LOL @ "insider information". You wish. |

It's the classic "OMG I wanna be in a sorority soooo bad but when the people on the interwebz don't tell me what I wanna know I'm gonna tell them them they're sooo mean." I love it. The Kappa ladies in this thread have been nothing but helpful (I have not seen one bitchy response in this thread). And they obviously have something you want. Lose the attitude. kthx. |
Hey, you said it.

Firstly, I did not mean that lecture to be towards the people who offered help. I do appreciate the links and such.
Secondly, I do not want to be in a sorority "soooo bad." I think if I did I would have rushed no matter what this year. Being in a sorority was never a goal of mine and it is very likely that it does not fit my personality. That doesn't mean I can't explore my options. I am not asking for tips on how to get in. I either fit or I don't fit. What I do want to know is how the kappas are at IU. I would like to know more about them not what they look for in girls. I think people are flattering themselves a little too much to think I am that coo-coo over kappa. I am not in a frenzy to get in, I am not obsessed to get in, I am not awed by them; I am interested in them, or rather was. GET OVER YOURSELF! It was a question. Not a plea written in blood to get into Kappa. I really should not have bothered explaining myself but I think some of the girls on here need to come back to earth. I didn't profess love with them so to say I did makes you look very full of yourself. When I say "you", I mean the ppl this pertains to. I challenge anybody to find a quote where it was supposedly apparent that I am "dying to get in" or that I want to be in a sorority "sooo bad". This forum seems like a community that is used to whiny girls who ask how to get into sororities too often and get upset by newbies who they assume are acting in that manner. |
It's just that it's kind of obvious you have a preference for Kappa going into recruitment (as a soph, I might add), when a large percentage of people who go through Indiana recruitment go bidless. I think it's important to not set yourself up for disappointment and try to learn more about ALL the groups at IU.
I hope this isn't part of the "incorrect advice" that everyone is so upset about lately, but I'm pretty sure I'm correct in saying that Indiana has a competitive recruitment. |

Again. You came HERE. We are not the people who need over ourselves. And lol @ you saying you're no longer interested in KKG or sorority membership as if someone is going to say "oohhhh nooooo, please be interested in us again." |
Yeah, I did, so far, have a preference for KKG and Chi Omega. They both appeared to have nice girls. So yes, i did have a preference but I wasnt itching to get in either.

P.S. i love how you keep putting quotes that I am supposedly thinking. Like the I want to be in a sorority "sooo bad" and the "oohhh nooooo, please be interested in us again." because last time I checked, that is not what was going through the brain, but thanks for that touch. It added pizzaz. |

We don't discuss chapter reputations or member selection procedures on this forum. Period. If that's what you're looking for, you will NOT find it here.
IF YOU WANT TO GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE KAPPAS AT IU, TRY TALKING TO THEM AND MAKING FRIENDS WITH THEM OUTSIDE OF RUSH. THAT'S WHAT DEFERRED RUSH IS FOR. NOT TO MENTION YOU HAVE BEEN THERE FOR A DAMN YEAR ALREADY. |

And I also love how in the links you provided me, the same members were total assholes to the girl who started the thread on IU recruitment. It seems bitchiness is a trend here. What a great attitude you girls have. You tried to turn this negativity on me but really just showed your true colors by your repeated behavior and unkindness to others on here.

If you continue to spread vicious rumors about my sisters, you will learn what bitchiness is. Because this? Please. My sisters have been nothing but polite. If you have problems with others, FINE. Take it up with them privately and leave my sisterhood out of it.
You were politely informed as to what you should do, and you chose to take this thread where it has gone. I can guarantee that the attitude you've taken will leave you bidless at IU. Therefore, I urge you to take a step back, stop posting, and listen to the advice you were given. |
Kappamd for president. |

Teh Kappas are sooooo hurt because you think that. To quote my dear Senusret I: "They got letters, you got dreams." |

Also, you say you're aware that it's biased info but you still have the idea that rumors are true, why would you want to be a part of Kappa so badly then? (Enough to ask about the Kappa ways). And an online website? That doesn't really pertain to how the dynamic of a sisterhood. IU is very competitive in Greek life and I have no doubt people rate down other chapters, sad as it is. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as a competitive school, IU cuts many freshmen. Sophomores face even harsher cuts at any competitive Greek school. And if we were holding up the reputation of being bitches, I'm sure you'll get an automatic bid. However, we aren't. We're just telling you that it's foolish to go in as a sophomore and expect/hope for two chapters. I advise you to think before you go on the Internet. It's not as anonymous as you'd like to think. PS. Don't tell us to get over ourselves. It's taken pretty badly when someone appears to only want one or two chapters at a competitive school. If anyone needs to get over themselves, it's you. |

And I can ask my friends about their chapter but they live in a different sate and they are not on probation. ksuviolet, if lecturing someone you dislike qualifies them for president in your mind, i truly wish your right to vote was taken away. |
