Why Did I Get Married Too?

Ok so I came from the midnight showing of "Why Did I Get Married Too" and I must say... I LOVED it. IMO, Tyler Perry kept me guessing in most of the movie (which honestly in most of his movies, I [along with America] know the end by the third scene). I loved it.

christiangirl 04-02-2010 03:01 AM

I WANNNA GOOOOOOO! Ugh, I wish I had off work tomorrow or else I would've gone to the midnight showing. Grrrrrr oh well, I'll see it tomorrow.

I'm going tonight with my sisters, woot woot!

E.O.S. 04-02-2010 10:18 PM

I saw it today. Loooovvveed Ittttttt! He did well with keeping me guessing. There were so many shockers. I was constantly reminding myself to close my mouth.

DrPhil 04-03-2010 12:50 AM

I didn't like the ending.

I liked the rest but cringed at a few parts because it was failed humor, failed suspense, or failed drama.

I won't be buying this on dvd and watching it a trillion times like I watch my "Why Did I Get Married" dvd. Maybe it will grown on me. We shall see.

I didn't even bother. I have officially become the loud, annoying person in the movie theater. I could not contain my exclamations and believe me I TRIED. I just can't handle really sudden surprsies. When Troy opened the door to Mike's apartment saw you-know-who there I shouted out. I almost cursed at the phycus and when the U-Haul hit I screamed. Not like a small yelp, but a horror movie scream, loud and LONG. :( I was embarassed from that part all the way to the end of the movie because I know I everyone around me was  then . Sorry. Couldn't help it.

Today was a Good Friday. :D

DrPhil 04-03-2010 01:10 AM

Everyone was very expressive in the theater tonight. Nothing wrong there.

What WAS wrong is this random Black man who seemed like he shouldn't even be in the theater. He spent most of the time yelling about how fine Angela is. He kept walking out. He finally left and I said "hallelujah."

AXOmom 04-03-2010 02:44 AM

Haven't seen the movie yet, but my new favorite line and life's theme is from the trailer I saw of it:

"You just want to control him!"
"I don't want to control him. I just want him to do what I say."

Told my husband, "EXACTLY." That's sums up my entire marital goal for the last 25 years.

YES!!! Oh and When The Rock appeared, the whole theatre including the two gay girl studs in front of us was like DAMN! You know everyone stayed thinking there was more after the credits but.... no.

Ch2tf 04-03-2010 07:51 AM

The whole theater was definitely "expressive", with the dude behind us bordering on annoying, but for the most part it was cool.

When you know who opened the door at Mike's apartment, I thought it was a wrap, I thought he was going to swing on sight. When you know who approached Patty at the end, the whole theater, well the females anyway let out gasps of exclamation. Dude behind us was like, I didn't know sisters were so into The Rock.

I need to own some stock in Tyler Perry's studio because tickets were basically sold out in the entire greater Boston area since the morning. We were going to get LUX ticket, but they have a strict no one under 21 policy. We had to go to the sucky theater (no stadium seating, old, etc.) that is several miles outside of Boston to see the movie.

jdrama 04-03-2010 11:14 AM

We went to the new movie theatre they have here with the reclining seats. And some guy got his popcorn brought to him by one of the employees. I wanted to put MY order in next.

My least fav part: When Angela appears at the studio. You don't mess up money!

I didn't like the ending either.

First of all I didn't think that the impact of the accident would have been enough to kill him. It just reminds me of when they kill a character off of a soap opera or sitcom because the contract ended or something.
And the lack of real emotion towards his death at the end didn't help matters. I initially thought that it was going to be Mike that was being honored at that little ceremony.

Then there were the other issues I had with it. I hate how Tyler can't find a better way to "give information" about characters and how he uses corny ways of putting the name of the movie in. (for example the scene where she said "why did I get married too?" )

I still don't feel like we truly KNOW what was going on with Patricia and Gavin.

And as for Diane and Terry. . . I'm just like

IlovemyAKA 04-03-2010 04:45 PM

I give it a C. I guessed that Mike probably had cancer when he asked for help. The only thing I couldn't figure out was whether Terry's wife was really cheating or not. I thought Janet's acting was awful.

I want to go see it! I plan to go see it this weekend or next week.

I agree 100% with ALL of this.

I'm annoyed with Tyler Perry right now. I've resolved myself with the fact that the only TP movies that I will really like and watch nonstop are "Diary of a Mad..." and the first "Why Did I Get...." I'm not trying to support TP anymore. His movies are now relegated to Dollar Cinema, RedBox, or OnDemand.

BabyPiNK_FL 04-03-2010 09:35 PM

I would not go to see a TP movie in a theater again unless it was a true-to-the-play version of Madea's Class Reunion (You gotta watch!)

christiangirl 04-03-2010 10:32 PM

I totally got what happened with Patty and Gavin. It's the same issue they had in the last movie too, but it's a little more transparent here: She was always intellectualizing everything, but never just knowing how to be open about her feelings. That's what he meant by "this is what it's like being married to a psychologist." ()Because of that, she couldn't show him love, she didn't know how because she was always so busy being objective. Then Noah died and she totally shut down. She went from objective to totally cold and he was sick of waiting for her to come out of it. Uuuuuhhh but him all on top of her saying "I'm gonna purge" was too much. It creeped me out, I thought he might rape her.

I thought Janet did well considering this was filmed right around the time Michael died. It definitely wasn't Oscar-worthy, but I could see she where she put a lot of her pain into Patty's pain.

Angela was WAAAAY over the top at times (like at the airport), but I still cracked up for the most part. BUT I think TP forgot that he ended the first movie with Angela promising to never drink again.

I felt the unraveling of Patty and Gavin's marriage dragged out too long and the grieving not enough. It would've been A+ if those two lengths of time had swapped.

And when Sheila did what she did, I wanted to scream, "Noooooo! Don't you remember what happened to Byrd in Soul Food!!!" :p

jdrama 04-03-2010 11:04 PM

LOL! The whole time I'm reading ^YOUR^ post, I'm highlighting every blank spot just in something is white out

Her acting in the first one wasn't very good either, lol. I know that once I watch this one I have to expect a mediocre performance from Janet.

I.A.S.K. 04-04-2010 02:21 PM

I saw it yesterday (and Im going again today for a friends bday)
I liked the first half the last half was disappointing.
Why is it the only character that has no shade about him is T.Perry's character? Like dude is always the good guy. I get that T.perry cant act, but c'mon son! He didnt do anything wrong in either movie. I would've liked for Diane to not be the A-hole in their relationship in this movie.

It would've been 2000 times funnier if Angela: would've busted in on Diane and Phill instead of her cleaning people. That would have been expected for me, but unexpected for most. I think it would've also made it more interesting and left the audience with less questions.
I hated the whole waiting room scene. In what world to people get back together soap opera style in the hospital? The WHOLE theater was pissed about that! Everyone was literally saying "Aw hell no!" out loud because that never happens in real life.
AND:
I wasnt surprised when
Gavin got killed. I knew a couple wouldnt make it from the commercial and I knew the couple would be Gavin and Patty (because pretending to be perfect never works) because that was transparent as hell in the last movie. I figured one of them would die because divorce isnt shoking at all. I was pissed that Patty got to be deadasswrong the whole movie and then move on with the rock's fine ass. That was so NOT justice. She was the one messing up the relationship but they had her moving on like she was Jill Scott's character (the dutiful wife who'd tried everything but couldnt make it work because the hubby's an ass). She killed both the men in that marriage (the son and the husband) and they both died in car accidents because of her. She should be in the mental ward not talking to anyone with her whole "everything is fine silent treatment" ish she had going.

Diane was beyond STOOPID. I dont give a damn if you're hooked to a lie detctor that will electrocute you if you lie....If your man (especially your HUSBAND) asks you if you were thinking of another man (who you may or may not be having an affair with) while you two were making love and you were...you BETTER lie. Take that ish to the grave! Don't *in my Smokey from Friday voice* ever ever ever answer that question!

jdrama 04-04-2010 06:52 PM

^^I agree w/ the Patty&Gavin thing. And my roomie said the same exact thing about the Angela-bedroom thing. I honestly thought it was Diane and Marcus. To me, that would've MADE the movie lol. And yes, Diane was a dumby for admitting that. Truly

CDancer20 04-04-2010 10:08 PM

I just came from seeing it. It was really good!

And I agree that I wanted to really know the truth behind Patricia and Gavin. Though I will admit that that ending came out of nowhere for me.

DrPhil 04-05-2010 12:14 AM

Between the rave over "Precious" and this movie, I conclude that Black people have really low expectations for movies. This is partly because of the small pool of "Black movies" that those of you us who like "Black movies" have to choose from.

However, the "Black movies" of previous generations and this generation that I really like are actually good movies. Black or not. I pity the fool who says otherwise. :)

Well, in defnese of Precious it did have Oscar winning writing and acting in it. WDIGMT....*Borat voice* not so much! lol.
I dont get people who are saying "OMG this is his/the best movie ever!" because it is not. Its like a good 50/50 or 60/40 combination of all things bad/good about Tyler Perry's movies.

christiangirl 04-05-2010 01:32 AM

I saw it again with the family today. :D It was better the second time IMO. I picked up on some things that I missed the first time so the movie made more sense the second time around.

My dad was HEATED with Patricia. He felt like she committed the ultimate sin by what she did bringing that cake to Gavin's job. He thought Gavin was wrong for the things he said at the house but Patty taking their business to the street was unforgivable. He got so seriously mad, he was literally yelling and ranting and raving about it on the ride home. We kept asking, "Why are you hollering? It was a movie; they're not even real people!" I knew men get easliy embarassed when their stuff goes public but DANG. Now I know why Troy was trippin' so hard. I thought he was a little ever the top but apparently that was an accurate portrayal of the male mind.

After the accident, Sister CG's eyes were popped out and her hands over her mouth for a full 60 seconds. Then she looked at me, sighed with contentment, and said "This is a Good. A--. Movie." :p

starang21 04-05-2010 09:02 PM

this movie was wack.

starang21 04-05-2010 09:05 PM

what truth is there to patricia and gavin? their marriage was a farce like he said. she didn't really love him.

at least at the time of the movie, she didn't really love him.

Patricia's @ss shoulda been beat for that....especially the contents.

@deepimpact...if you remember from the first, they lost their son. I don't think the how or why is important but more so that they neglected to properly allow themselves to grieve and be able to move on from their loss.

she loved him enough to get her holler on with a dude just a year after his death, which she contributed to? the loss didn't hurt her that bad.

christiangirl 04-05-2010 09:57 PM

Oh come on, the movie ended with her smiling at him. That's not the same as a holler. He was the one with all the holleration going on.

NO! She did the LL like lip? I just saw the Cheshire Cat grin. Which, grieving widow or not, one is required to give if The Rock is looking at you like that. I'm not even on him like that and I know the rules.

RIGHT!!??!!

Then again maybe she put that away just like she did her son's death!

Lasonja 04-06-2010 09:17 AM

That movie was lame. He could have just made "why did I get married" and been done with it. There was some many things in that movie that wouldn't happen irl. Something told me to wait for it on dvd. And the ending was far beyond lame.

Little32 04-06-2010 02:45 PM

I haven't and will not see the movie--at least not until it comes on televsion--BUT I think The Rock is pretty. :)

Pretty is far to tame a word to use to describe all the maleness that is The Rock. He is delectable.

Is it just me or did Janet look like a chunky chipmunk? She was quite um bloated in the film. And why do they refuse to give Jill Scott a decent figure (which she actually has) and a decent wig? Just ONE good wig! Please!

In other news I would love to fall into Sherif Troy's strong arms and just dive into his dimples. Thatisall.

APhiQuetieACE 04-07-2010 04:37 PM

I didnt read all the comments but...

Here is a note my friend wrote on FB and I agree with EVERYTHING...

Now my friends will tell you, I rarely go to the movies because I wait till it comes out on dvd or I get it on bootleg. But I try to support black films..and I just love seeing Tyler Perry films in the theater because the audience makes it sooo funny with all their cooning. I actually liked Why Did I Get Married? so I thought hey why not…

…BUT OMG WTF WAS THIS!!!!

Is it just me or did I see Janet’s breasts one too many times in the film? More like in EVERY scene!

Speaking of bodies…Tyler..i’m noticing in every film some guy is greased up..or too sexy for life... not that I’m complaining totally…but lets give it a rest or come out already .. did yall peep TP baby abs? he trying…I see you boo lol now shave that ground beef off your chest

Oh wait did he have someone greased up in The Family That Preys? I cant recall, that’s prolly why I liked the film..but I digress

I love Angela (Tasha Smith)! But I hated her in this film…and if there was ever a reason for interracial dating me not liking her..it was because she was soooo loud and ignorant in this film! In the first one I gave it a pass, but this time it became too much. Nevermind that I felt like I was in a Sony commercial because she was so loud and when u pair that with deafening movie speakers…my hair was moving and shit…her husband Marcus (Michael Jai White) looked so tired throughout the film..and I understand…and in what world would a loud ass woman make it onto a national station and not get bodyslammed? At least lil mama got on stage quietly

Speaking of that…I must be an old skool hoe because I don’t believe coming to a man job starting shit..no matter how pissed I am..i wont be that rude, I wouldn’t want that shit happening to me…so with Angela being all types of ignant on tv…and Patricia (Janet) coming to Gavin (Malik Yoba) job with a gay man in a cake…OMG…

Did yall peep what I just said?? YES…she came to this man's job with a gay man popping out of a cake…I literally fell out from all the drama..wtf was that soap opera shit about?

I understand Gavin and Patricia were having problems, but it had to be more than “you don’t love me” for them to be acting out like this…that drunken scene…THE MOST!

Did you see the demonic tongue Gavin gave Patricia when they were fighting…ewww! I will say I applauded Janet tho…I never seen her act like this and it was refreshing to know that she isn’t a robot lol…not to mention she spoke above a whisper…you go girl!

But I feel like their problems went from 0 to 60...she calling him all types of 'bishes' in the street...oh ok i see how it goes

Terry and Diane’s (Tyler Perry & Sharon Neal) relationship problem was well done..it was subtle..and then they brought it out in a non dramatic fashion…I mean how do you deal with someone who is emotionally cheating on you? Thinking of someone else while you’re having sex with your mate? Yikes….too bad it was resolved horribly (I will get to that in a bit)…I had a hard time with Tyler convincing me that he’s straight

BUT...it was clear who was the man in Terry and Diane's relationship...what man do you know will sit back and let his wife do some foul shit..then be all feminine about it..that whole 38 days ago i noticed you were...insert some absurd shit here ...really Tyler..maybe its me but if a dude get a hint his girl is foul he would let the hoe know lol...only women play that detective shit...

the more that I think about it..how the HELL did Terry & Diane relationship last? in the first she tying tubes and he getting secret paternity tests...all they do is lie!

I liked Troy (Lamman Rucker) and Sheila (Jill Scott) as a couple too…although I felt like Sheila was an unstable nagging-ass woman...I liked them...but I had a problem with the way her ex-husband Mike (Richard T. Jones) was brought into the mix. It woulda been ok if he happened to be chilling on the island and he bumped into one of them and then started snooping around…but no! tyler wants to be really dramatic he had to stay in the same suite during the same time as everyone else…who tipped him off? And Sheila should know better than to ask her ex to help her new husband with a job! Yall saw Soul Food!

Call me selfish...but Sheila..this man treated you like shit..played you for a fool and slept with your best friend...but somehow this man gets cancer and you want to play his caregiver? fool all you get is a shoutout in a prayer fugg outta here

And I’m tired….so I’m gonna end this…

Lol that’s how Tyler ended the movie…just real abrupt and comically (although that probably wasn’t his intent). Its almost like he wrote this like: “ok lets take some real life issues and exaggerate them x1000…then lets bring them on an island for no other reason but for their problems to blow up in their faces…lets throw Mike back in the mix and give him cancer…lets have Patricia and Gavin act like psychos…oh im too tired to develop these character issues so lets kill Gavin so everyone else can forget about their issues and hug in a kumbaya fashion…oh and lets bring the Rock in…just cause I’m Tyler and I like man candy in my films.”

The ending was sooo bad! Nothing was resolved..I think Tyler was going for the whole “life is too short” message, but it was poorly done. You cant honestly believe I’m gonna forget everything that happened because someone died…no..we gonna grieve, and then we gonna fix this shit! And everyone stood up in a “we are the world” way…ohhh c’mon…

by the way...the way Gavin died was like a scene from final destination...all random and startling...

If you didn’t read the whole note..just know this…I didn’t like the movie..not only because the ending sucked ass and the “characters” were more like caricatures…but everything moved waaayy too fast. This film could have easily been 3 separate films given all the problems they had..

And Tyler…please stop making women in your films needy, emotionally broken, or vindictive ALL THE TIME. And then the men are violent, cheating types who cant stand to be around the women they are with…do better…

I try to give Mr. Perry props…but I cant for this..it was a bad soap opera…and..I forgot my train of thought..oh well….so did Tyler
