Recruitment Advice from my 86 Year-Old Grandma

My amazing grandma was in a sorority at the University of Illinois quite a while back. When I was going through recruitment she sent me an email that I think I should share with this awesome community.

Although some of it may be dated, I thought it was cute and helpful :)

From Grandma Ruth:
"Always make sure that there aren't any runs in your pantyhose.

Don't ever discuss anything racy.

You are a young lady. Please act like one. No bodily noises of any kind and don't apply makeup where someone else could see you.

Please don't wear sneakers. I know that you like them, but buy and wear a decent pair of flats. Your mother will like that too.

Smile all the time! You should be happy to be going through this process! Plus your parents didn't pay all of that money on orthodontia for no one to see it.

Wear a nice necklace. Just about every girl loves necklaces. Plus it will give you something to talk about.

Don't refer to the process as 'rushing'. You shouldn't be rushing. You should enjoy every second of the experience, even it it's very overwhelming.

Practice your answers ahead of time.

Eat a good breakfast!

We all love you, the right group will you love too."

Isn't she adorable? :)

I'm so happy you all love her wise words. :)
She was a Kappa Alpha Theta, and I completely agree that her words are timeless.

I also love that she told me to wear flats - I'm a converse girl!

Absolutely! I'm just so happy you all like this so much.
My Grandma actually just learned about email in the last year... I printed this out right after she sent it and taped it to my mirror.

I told her about how I put this on GC, and she said, "Wait, so there is a sorority on the internet? How do they meet?"

Bless her heart! :)

LucyKKG 03-10-2010 08:03 PM

I think we should start a thread about cute things our grandparents say. :)
