Nerves!
So I've been rushing the past 2 weeks and I really love the chapter that I'm rushing. It's informal, and I've been to 2.5 events and will be attending one next week, which is the final event.
I've been relatively quiet at the rushes because it's such a large group. I mean I talk and everything I just feel too quiet sometimes. But the group has their official meetings once a week, then 2 days later is the rush event night. Last week the house gave out most of it's bids. There are only a few bids left, but there are also only a few girls left still rushing. I added one of the sisters on fb just to show I was outgoing and everything and she messaged me asking me over for dinner next week, the night before our rush event. The bids that were given out the week before were given out on this night. What makes me nervous is that I'm being invited over for dinner and then not going to get a bid. I don't have any friends in the house so this is my first real step in getting noticed. Advice for this situation? Has anyone ever had this happen? Basically any tips to calm my nerves? |

We don't know if you're going to get a bid or not obviously. I will say this, I joined via informal as well. I attended events for a week, and didn't hear anything back for a couple of days. I thought I wsn't getting a bid. Then I was invited to another event by a sister. I wondered the same thing you did (Are they going to invite me to another event just to tell me I'm not getting a bid?) Guess what? I ended up getting one. At this point, there is probably not a lot you can do except go and see what happens. You may get a bid, you may not. Whether you do or not, at least you have met some new people and become more outgoing. Good luck! |
Just try to stay busy. If you're constantly thinking about it, you'll be a wreck by the dinner. And good luck!

I remember when I was going through COB. I had an entire afternoon of doing nothing before my last event (I didn't have class or anything going on). Every other thought was "OMGWHATDOIWEAR?OMGWHATAREWEDOING?OMGAMIGOINGTOGET ABID?OMGIFIDONTILLBESOSAD!" So yeah, have something to do. Your mind will thank you. |
That's what my mind is doing now. and i still have 4 days. Then if I don't get a bid at dinner I go back the next night for the last informal even so it's another whole day!
You're right thought, it's been nice meeting people. I saw one girl on campus today and she waved and said hi and everything...i was so surprised she even recognized me! |

Ok, soooo.... what happened?
|
It's tomorrow night. Still another day of nerves to get through, but I'll let everyone know how it goes!
|
best wishes to you!!!
|
So I don't think I'm going to get to go tonight. I saw on fb that the girl that invited me is sick, and she's my only contact in the house. :(
|
Honestly, that's a pretty lame reason to not go. Whether she's there or not, she invited you. For all you know, she told her sisters about you and they're looking forward to meeting you.
|
Bostongreek, that's exactly what I'm hoping. I really want to go. I'm nervous but it's the good nervous. So I texted her to see if I should still go to dinner.

If you're really interested in this sorority, you need to go to this event. This is their last recruitment event, right? Even if they have more, they may fill all of their spots. If you go and your friend isn't there, it will definitely show the girls in the house how interested you are.
Go. ETA: I didn't know anyone when I went through open recruitment, either. Guess what? I got to know them on Bid Day! Go. |

Good luck!! |
Barbie, think about it this way. The worst that can happen is that you won't get a bid, which definitely won't happen if you don't go.
|
No, this isn't the last event. That's tomorrow. This was a dinner that one girl I met during rush invited me to at the house. I also don't know if anyone else from rush has been invited.
But I texted her and despite her sickness she's planning on going to dinner! |
That's awesome, Barbie<3. Good luck!
|
Good luck! I am glad you are going!
|
I'm glad you decided to go.
I waited to rush for a long time because of nerves, and missed out on what could have been an extra year as an active with my eventual sisters. I'll always regret that. |

Last year when I was a junior I looked at their website and said "they look like so much fun I wish I could be one of them." and now a year later I am! I just wish I'd rushed sooner! |
