Have YOU seen this man in your dreams?

I find this to be, if legit, very disturbing.

Quote:

From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Dehli, Moskow etc.

At the moment there is no ascertained relation or common trait among the people that have dreamed of seeing this man. Moreover, no living man has ever been recognized as resembling the man of the portrait by the people who have seen this man in their dreams.

Nope, can't say that I have.

agzg 02-17-2010 11:26 PM

No but his picture made my toes tingle in a creeped out sort of way.

cheerfulgreek 02-17-2010 11:27 PM

He kinda looks like David Berkowitz. Creepy.

Why did I click on it? :(

DrPhil 02-17-2010 11:30 PM

Why did I click on this thread again? Dammit.

christiangirl 02-17-2010 11:31 PM

No, but I wonder how many people only dreamed about him after clicking that link. My guess would be about 2,000.

agzg 02-17-2010 11:32 PM

LOL. What's with his unibrow?

And what does he do in the dream?

Boodleboy322 02-17-2010 11:34 PM

Unibrow

It's Burt!

They say he helps, assists and/or comforts the dreamer. The pics on that page are creepy but apparently its a positive encounter. I never remember my dreams, so I have no idea if I've ever seen him.

This article says the url traces back to "Italian sociologist and marketing expert, Andrea Natella, who’s made a career out of studying hoaxes".

AGDee 02-17-2010 11:41 PM

I would think that the features are generic enough and dream memories are fuzzy enough that most people would see that and say yes, they've seen him in their dreams. Kind of like the Psycho 101 exercise where you take a personality test and are given results and have to write/talk about how accurate they are. After people attest to their amazing accuracy, you discover that they were randomly distributed and are generic descriptions that most people will relate to in some way.

The podcast that brought this story to my attention mentioned how it might be viral marketing, but for what nobody knows. Unibrow's maybe?

LatinaAlumna 02-18-2010 12:20 AM

Eeeew! That face creeps me out! (and I don't know why).

maybe because one of the only distinguishing features is his megabrow.

there are some things missing, too.

the sketch has a very wide mouth, but no smile lines.

there's no neck. just about all of the sketch artists' composites i've ever seen on the news has a neck.

viral marketing can be creepy AND effective.

dreamseeker 02-18-2010 01:43 AM

groovypq 02-18-2010 10:31 AM

*shudders* Creeeeeeeeeeepy!

ThetaDancer 02-18-2010 10:34 AM

A) Creepy. Never seen him before but I'll probably have nightmares now.

B) I don't know if it's just me, but when I clicked on that link, my anti-virus and anti-malware programs went absolutely apeshit with alerts that they were trying to block the site from downloading trojans.

MysticCat 02-18-2010 10:40 AM

Could it be . . . The Man from Another Place?

Why do I want pie all of a sudden?

DrPhil 02-18-2010 10:43 AM

Of the dreams that I can remember, he was NOT in them. :) I win.

ThetaPrincess24 02-18-2010 12:36 PM

I think that face looks creepily demonic.

AnchorAlumna 02-18-2010 12:52 PM

Thank you! My computer went nuts and it's still not right. I think we should remove that link from this thread.

I took the link out of my original post, sorry to anyone out there that picked up a virus or trojan from the link. I didn't have any issues myself going on that site, it might be because I have a Mac.

lovespink88 02-18-2010 02:45 PM

I didn't have any issues with it either and my virus stuff is pretty good. Then again, I clicked on it when it was first posted, so maybe the virus is new? Better safe than sorry!

ETA: He looks like one of those guys that's featured on I Love the 80s on VH1. I wish I knew his name so that I could post a pic...

sceniczip 02-18-2010 02:52 PM

I don't have any problems but I have a Mac too.

ThetaDancer 02-18-2010 03:09 PM

This is just serving as the perfect reminder for why my next computer purchase will be a mac.

ree-Xi 02-18-2010 03:20 PM

Nothing on Snopes.

But let me ask another question - Why is Snopes the only site that still gives me popups no matter what popup blocker I had (on a PC) and now on a MAC?

WTF?

I don't go on snopes much, but the only website that I get pop ups on is the El Paso Times.

-Just went on snopes and got 4 popups!
