It shall be called, "Snowtorious B.I.G"

This thread is dedicated to the blizzard (It's also trending on twitter) that is blanketing the Mid Atlantic area...if you have pics or thoughts or whatever...drop them here.

33girl 02-06-2010 01:25 PM

I like that better than "Snowmageddon."

I got out the yardstick...I have 19 inches on my deck and 23 inches in my front yard. 75 miles to the east in my hometown, the measurement (according to my old next door neighbor) is "up to Dave's shoulder" which would be around 4 1/2 feet.

DaemonSeid 02-06-2010 01:33 PM

There was a competition if it should be called Snowpocalypse....sheeesh....

honeychile 02-06-2010 04:14 PM

I've only ventured into the front yard - 24 1/2 inches. My brother (in Washington County) has "close to three feet" - they could only see the ears of their Doberman when he was outside (between leaps and bounds).

I do have to say, the snow effects were awesomely beautiful last night. It reminded me of my childhood, when we once got snowbound near Whipple Dam (over Tussey Mountain from PSU).

LucyKKG 02-06-2010 04:34 PM

I was going to take a picture of my yard here in CA as a joke, but I figured you guys would call me a wimp. I think it's sprinkling?

DaemonSeid 02-06-2010 05:28 PM

Lucy...go ahead and take the pic...for comparison!!!

Also let's hope that the folks up on U Street don't get stoopid again and this time get fired upon!!

AGDee 02-06-2010 05:57 PM

I'm afraid to poke fun because we could still get ours sometime this year and I don't want to jinx Michigan. I feel your pain though. That much snow is such a PITA. You shovel and shovel and you end up not even knowing where to put it anymore. What a nightmare. When we get hit like that, I try to shovel every few hours, because it gets way too overwhelming otherwise (not to mention heavy!).

knight_shadow 02-06-2010 06:04 PM

It's about 60 degrees here in DFW. I wish I could send some of this weather to y'all.

aephi alum 02-06-2010 08:05 PM

We didn't get so much as a flurry here in CT. Envy me. :p

Stay safe and warm, everyone.

tld221 02-06-2010 09:06 PM

I made my wknd plans around this supposed snow. And not a freaking flurry!

It is cold as frick out though. Still gonna go out. I think.

Still BLUTANG 02-06-2010 09:20 PM

aww, i like the sound of "snowmageddon"

it snowed all the way up to the door. i can't see the steps or the rail so i doubt i'll even clear my car until the condo folks come do their thing.

AGDee 02-06-2010 09:33 PM

Just a friendly reminder to anybody who has a gas furnace that vents to the outside through a pipe on the wall of your house rather than the roof.. make sure it's clear of snow. This is a carbon monoxide risk.

It looks like we may get an inch or two, but nothing big.

Stay safe out there everyone.

DaemonSeid 02-06-2010 09:43 PM

O well what the heck...enjoy the video

AnchorAlum 02-06-2010 09:44 PM

Love the title! Actually all of them are good.

Poor Doggie - talk about your yellow snow!

Sorry, no snow in sunny F.L.A. today. But it's getting chilly here in the northern part of the state. I might have to turn on the heat.

ZetaGirl22 02-06-2010 09:57 PM

I havent measured how much we got, but its definitely up to the dog's heads and we have a lab and an American Bulldog. I have gotten quite a chuckle today watching them leap around in it.

ETA: just read in the paper online that we got 27.1 inches!

ADqtPiMel 02-06-2010 11:24 PM

I went for a run in it:

Fine! I have these things called YakTrax, you can see them on my shoes. I run in the snow all the time.

Gusteau 02-06-2010 11:31 PM

Oh wow, those are really interesting - how do they work? Do they just give you more traction?

DaemonSeid 02-06-2010 11:32 PM

as short as you are, around here, you would have disappeared into the snow.

At some parts the snow was up almost to my waist and I am over 6ft tall....LOL

and you look like you are about what...5'2 - 5'5?

hehehehe

Dude, I'm bent over to show my shoes for the camera. I'm 5'8. lol

Gusteau -- Yeah, they are traction aids. They are basically a series of coils that wrap around the bottom of your shoe. They are awesome.

DaemonSeid 02-06-2010 11:43 PM

ok....well my dog would have found you!! HA!

Maybe we will get dug out by Tuesday!

RU OX Alum 02-06-2010 11:55 PM

I'm glad I moved when I did. We got about an inch or two someone said, but it had all melted by 9am. Stay warm and stay safe.

Greater DC is supposed to get more snow on Tuesday night. At this rate, our kids will be going to school in July.

honeychile 02-07-2010 12:27 AM

Mel, you looked really cute!

I've often thought about buying Yaktrax. I think you just sold a few dozen pair!

Okay, the snowplow just NOW went by the house once. Whoppee. My pictures are nasty, and really don't show how deep the white stuff is. The little dog still won't go off of the porch - but that's okay, he just had surgery yesterday, and I'm just as happy that he can't mingle with others right now.

cheerfulgreek 02-07-2010 07:19 AM

Where I live, we're only supposed to get an inch or two on Tuesday. I'm glad that most of it "supposedly" (we'll see ) is going to taper off. I hope so, because I hate driving in snow. Snow, ice, and my driving don't do very well together.:(

FCPS used all 3 of its alloted snow days with Decembers's storm. This past Wed's cancellation means schools will be in session on President's Day and Friday's snow day has the kids having class on a previously scheduled inservice day. I am sure they will have at least Monday off. Many residential streets still haven't been plowed.

DaemonSeid 02-07-2010 10:27 AM

They are calling for more snow to come on Tuesday. Wooooow

AOIIalum 02-07-2010 01:18 PM

We got a bunch of snow, with a couple more inches predicted early this week. We're estimating we got 18-20" total.

You should get a pair! I got some for my dad because I was worried about him falling while shoveling outside of his office and he LOVES them. I have the YakTrax Pro, which are more flexible and better for running, and my dad has the regular ones, which are sturdier and work really well for shoveling.

ADqtPiMel 02-07-2010 02:10 PM

My husband the photographer took these:
