Greek Letter Organization Stereotypes
Hi All,
I'm doing a research project on Greek Letter Organizations including social, service, honor, etc. I'm a member of Greek Life, but wanted the perspective from other Greeks. What do you think are some of the stereotypes faced by students in these organizations? Thanks!! |

But, if you insist, do a search engine and see if we've discussed this boring old topic before. |

Let me ask this another way - do you want your (I'm assuming GRAD work, based on your name) paper based on ideas from random people online? How does one cite info from online forums anyway? This.Is.Not.The.Place. |

Lol that was brilliant!

Wow, a grad level course using a forum as a source. Have the standard gone that low?

I'm published! Look! I've been cited!! Whoo hooo!! All that schoolin' in journalism and writin' papers an' such paid off! Thank you for the new siggy! |

And after all that fancy "schoolin'" I bet you never once realized that it was totally cool if you did your research on internet forums... No problem, I mean you gotta give credit where it's due b/c this is indeed NOT the place to conduct your studies or do your research* for ANY type of legitimate school work, GRAD or no. *Unless your topic focuses on the snarkiness of GC'ers |
I did my Master's thesis on Greek organizations and found plenty of information in scholarly journals. I would've been laughed out of my program if I'd used a message board as a source.

Enlighten me here. ARE there even universal stereotypes for most Greek organizations? I don't have a clue about fraternities, but on the sorority side from what I've seen, reputations/stereotypes can change from one school to another and can't be generalized.
|
There are "national stereotypes."
This is why stereotypes have always been funny because we know individuals and entire chapters that don't fit it. Yet they persist and those who don't fit the stereotype often rest upon the stereotype if it's a "compliment." |
Sheesh. You need to learn to pull your research from more reputable sources, like Wikipedia.

Between doing research on an internet forum and asking a question where we're not even sure what's she wants to know, she's sure to get some really useful stuff for her research project. All Greeks are helpful. ;) |

ETA: Now ppl doing research on Greek Life, or Greeks who just want advice won't have to come here anymore :( Why ask real Greeks when you can ask actors who play Greek on t.v.? http://www.hulu.com/watch/125628/gre...-or-shouldnt-i |

Thanks, Kevin. I will assign that to the bottom of all my legal forum posts. Unfortunately, siggy rules here won't allow me to have TWO citations, due to space limitations. I appreciate the help! Quote:
Did you determine that by use of a Venn Diagram? I'd love to see the "work". All X are Y, and some Y are Z. Therefore, all X are not necessarily Z. Woops that doesn't work! |
