What is Tri Sigma like at your school?

What is Sigma Sigma Sigma like at your school? I'm just curious...

Billy Optimist 03-20-2001 05:51 PM

Tri Sigma Rocks! They have a reputation for the being the pretty girls. The ones I know are really nice too http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

We didn't have Tri Sigma at my school.I have had the opportunity in the past of hiring 3 Tri Sigma's and if they are representative of their total organization,I would have to say they are wonderful. They came from different campuses but each had the same excellent qualities and attitudes.

finest_alum 03-20-2001 07:05 PM

Hate to be rude, but they are known as Tri-Pigs... they started pretty recently and were bidding anyone and everyone to get numbers. Unfortunately, the greek system is small enough that once a house gets a rep for that, it's hard to shake. Sorry.

DGPhoney 03-20-2001 09:36 PM

sorry there are not too many tri sigmas in MD, but the one chapter I heard of was said to be very mean, and stuck up, and since I don't know first hand , maybe it's false

I'm not so sure I agree with pirate00. I think that is a bit harsh to say.
I feel Sigma fits ECU's party scene very well, but I wouldn't say they are known to be loose blondes. Even if it were true I wouldn't say it that way.
Sigmas are always downtown and having a good time, they recruit fun girls because obviously they enjoy that type of member. Sigma has been on campus since 1960 and gets their girls one way or another so, by their standards they are doing well and I say go for it, every chapter has a different personality and they always get a bad rap for theirs.
We need to remember that the System functions as a whole and we cannot be so quick to judge, we need each chapter we have in order to be a system, no matter how different we all are.

kdgirlie 03-21-2001 05:57 PM

hey I would definately have to disagree with pirate00. The Sigmas at ECU that I know are very nice girls and they like to have fun.

kittie 03-21-2001 06:19 PM

I'm a Tri Sig at ECU and I really hate that that's the way we come across to people. Our chapter has worked very hard in the past few years to overcome some problems we've had and I think we've done a very good job. And recently we've been getting a lot of praise from our national and regional officers so I think our chapter represents Sigma just fine, pirate00.
I'm not even going to address the comment about us being "stuck-up, loose blondes" because it's a stereotype that has been used to describe several groups on campus and it's not true for any one of us.
Yes, we do like to have a good time and go out but that's not all there is to us. We have been very involved in campus activities this year and we've been doing a lot of fundraising as well. Besides, if you judged every organization just on the members you see downtown we'd all be characterized as a bunch of partiers.
I would not trade being a Sigma for anything. My chapter is a very diverse and close-knit group of girls and I think one of the reasons we may be perceived as "stuck-up" is because we have to deal with a lot of ignorant stereotypes like pirate00's and we've learned just to ignore them (and the rumors that go with the stereotypes).
Thank you ecukd, for at least being supportive, although I wish your comments had been more positive.

And yet another shining example of why we should not have these "what do you think of my org?" posts....

DGPhoney 03-21-2001 07:14 PM

totally agree with eclipse

Yup!

The tri's are probably the smallest sorority at my school (out of four). They are all wonderful girls, though. I've gotten along with every tri I've ever met. They seem to be more academically oriented (basically a higher sorority GPA). So, they are great http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think I remember saying that exact same thing a few months ago. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I cringe everytime I read about a GLO being described in a negative way, regardless if it's the truth or not... I know we all hate reading posts that portray our GLOs negatively, and I really don't see why people keep on asking these type of questions.

Tri-Sig has had the reputation as an aggregation of stuck-up, loose blondes at East Carolina. Sigma Sigma Sigma is nationally a very good sorority, however it's sad that the ECU chapter isn't representing that very well.

shadokat 03-22-2001 01:28 AM

Tri Sig at my campus was always the pretty girls driving in daddy's beemer http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif But they were not nearly as bad as people made them out to be in terms of snobbery. Really nice, motivated women who did a lot for the community.

Well, after reading responses regarding my comments about Tri-Sig, I feel it's my duty to re-iterate. I am the kind of person who gives unconditional positive regard to everyone, until they prove me otherwise. And certain sisters of ECU- Tri-Sig have given me good reason to say what I sad. I didn't mean to come across saying all ECU Tri-Sig sisters were "stuck-up, loose blondes", and if I did come across that way, I am truly sorry. However, I'm condoning the actons of a precious few, not the whole sorority.

kittie,

I just thought of something. There was a post a while back that caused some problems with a lot of people and you and preppie were the main ones involved. The topic was like the one that is being asked now but it was asking about a few other sororities. You were not very kind in your response about my sorority or a couple of other sororities. But now you're caught in a corner b/c others are talking about your sorority right now. Ironic, isn't it? I'm sorry, I don't mean to come down on you so hard but think about it. You came down hard on us and that wasn't fair. So if you don't think pirate00 and ecukd are being positive, think about what you said about KD and ZTA.

ztafairy 03-22-2001 03:38 PM

pirate00,

To respond to what you said, I think that voicing your experiences with Tri-Sigmas is the right thing to do. I just think "loose" was a little harsh. But apparently from what you wrote back, you do too. I feel that my experience with Tri-Sigmas has not been a very positive one either. Don't get me wrong, I have met some really sweet Tri-Sigmas and I got along with them really well, but in my four years of being a ZTA, I have really never gotten along with them. They do seem stuck up to me. But then again, I think every sorority has at least a few girls who act that way.

And I agree with you, Ooh Teeny Wahine, these posts suck. This is my favorite saying so you can laugh all you want to, "Word to Big Bird!" I think it is appropriate with all of the "Word"s given.

I am simply replying b/c if you want to know what a group is thought of, who am I to keep you from it?? I personally would love to know the overall rep of AGD. Unfortunately, the info I have to give you on Tri-Sig at Eastern Michigan is not very good. They are pretty, but they are known dirty rushers, snobs, they have a bad rep when it comes to being sluts, and they are known to not play fair for intramurals and greek week. I wanted to be one when I got here, but when I met them, that was the last thing on my mind. They even insulted the girl who became my little b/c she isn't a size 5 in the middle of recruitment!!! I wish I could give you better news about the chapter here. I do know some good tri-sigmas here, but on the whole, it's not a group to be proud of here

amycat412 03-26-2001 03:03 AM

No tri sigmas at my school, USC. In fact, I'm not sure there are many chapters in California, I'd never heard of them before greek chat.
