The Amazing Race 16!

Happy Valentine's Day to us, The Amazing Race is back on February 14!!

Info from CBS is here.

And the rumor is correct: Jeff and Jordon from Big Brother 11 are on the Race.

Guess who else is. Caitlin Upton, Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2007 -- she who famously lamented the fact that some people in the US don't have maps. Shocker: She's a model now.

And we have the first grandmother (she's 71)/granddaughter team.

I'm ready.

srmom 01-22-2010 11:39 AM

WooHoo! Can't wait! I loved Jeff and Jordan on Big Brother, it will be interesting to see their relationship dynamic in the HIGH stress world of The Amazing Race!! I hope they aren't snipers at each other, that would be a bummer to watch.

tootiepie 02-14-2010 10:26 PM

I love Jeff and Jordan also. They were soooooo cute on the first episode. I hope they continue to get along this well. I would also be bummed if they turn into screamers.

Kappamd 02-14-2010 10:29 PM

Team Jeff and Jordan for sure.

I also like Steve and Allie just because Steve is the Indians' third base coach and I <3 my Indians.

Miss Teen SC needs to go; she seems like a total brat.

DaffyKD 02-15-2010 12:15 AM

Santiago, CHINA????? Is Jordan for real?

Santiago, BRAZIL???? Are those guys for real?

I cracked up at the pair that were painting the house that was not part of the race. Those other painters were like, ????. I am afraid that would be a mistake I would make if I were on the show.

I also felt bad for the guy who couldn't cross the wire.

Yes that was awesome. I felt sorry for the team that got penalized half an hour for walking. seemed kind of excessive ot me.

I don't think the cowboys really thought that Santiago was in Brazil. They said that was the closest money they had to Chilean money.

I wrote my message early on. They explained later why they bought the Brazilian money which made some sense when they said it. Love it when one of them said that they realize that American dollars can be used, but not most other currency.

Don't forget when Miss Teen SC said, "Danke" to a Chilean guy.

I caught that one, as well

My first impressions when they introduced the teams:

Liked: the gay/not gay brothers, the lesbian couple, and the grandmother/granddaughter.

However, shortly after the race started, my opinions completely changed. I still love the grandmother/granddaughter team, though!

My thoughts exactly. Half-way into the show, it was clear that the brothers and the Brandy and what's-her-name were going to get on my nerves fast. I was actually pulling for Brandy not to make it across the wire.

Haha! I was, too! :D

And the brothers appear to be taking the role of the brothers from the last season. I have a feeling they'll be blaming each other for a lot of things along the way.

I felt bad for Caite. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have the entire world see your most embarrassing moment, and then bring it up to your face and behind your back and laugh at you constantly. It takes a lot of guts for her to put herself out there again. I just hope the annoying brother (Jordan?) will STFU about her and focuses on the race and not being totally annoying.
I did too. They were being so catty and mean about it. I was glad to see the Karma Police come get them in a BIG way - haha, about the snotty 1/2 of the lesbian couple ("Courage of a Lion") getting scared out of her wits on the wire while Caite went across no problem.

I loved Jordan and Jeff!! Go TEAM JJ! (and haha that the gay brother had to begrudgingly admit that he had underestimated their team)

(The editors deserve an award in my book for showcasing both the snotty remarks and then the Karma biting the snotty teams in the butt - Yay Amazing Race!!)

Yawn. If they were not on the Amazing Race would you still watch?
I would. I have watched every season and still enjoy it no matter who the contestants are. I watch for the scenery and the challenges.

But, I think it is fun to see a couple that you already know from another show (J&J and Rob & Amber) to see if they'll implode from "killer fatigue" like contestants have been prone to do.

Quote:

Which is worse, Caitlin Upton giving such a stupid answer or the fact that the gay guys knows her exact answer?
I think what is worst is that the gay guy ran around like a chicken with his head cut off from group to group cackling about how dumb her answer was - he's like the "mean girl" gossip who thinks by trashing other people behind their back she'll look better (except she's a he).

That and the western music for the cowboy going across the wire.

Neither. Losers continuing to come back here after they've been banned so often we've all lost count is worse.

gee_ess 02-15-2010 06:33 PM

I have to confess that I can rattle off a pretty close impression of Caitlin's beauty pageant answer myself. I doubt she is truly that ignorant but just got a bad case of stage paralysis. I hope she has a chance to redeem herself, but after that "Danke" remark she may have to work a little harder...

Psi U MC Vito 02-21-2010 09:16 PM

Wow who would have thought the cowboys would be in the lead.

SWTXBelle 02-21-2010 09:29 PM

I LOVE the cowboys!

Psi U MC Vito 02-21-2010 09:30 PM

I'm starting ot like them because they are really humble and down to earth.

SWTXBelle 02-21-2010 09:49 PM

and I'm hatin' - newly-dating lesbians - they are unnecessarily nasty and rude.
- Miss Jose' - H-O-S-E, who has the nerve to make fun of Miss S.C.

Psi U MC Vito 02-21-2010 09:51 PM

Actually my favorite team would either be the cow boys or the Grand mother/daughter. I love their attitude.

SWTXBelle 02-21-2010 09:54 PM

Yep - kicked in the head, she still keeps going!

eta - Awwwww . . . I'm sad. I'd rather the guidos had been kicked out rather than grandmother/daughter.

Psi U MC Vito 02-21-2010 09:55 PM

I hope this isn't an elimination round.

AGDee 02-22-2010 10:39 AM

Just watched it on DVR. Not happy about that episode. The Cowboys are amazing, it seems like luck is on their side. A llama just comes up to them like that? How weird!

srmom 02-22-2010 12:10 PM

Maybe llamas can sense niceness :)

I've had just about enough of the "newly dating lesbians" too. They are rude and just plain mean. And, their "alliance" holding their spot in line - COME On!

It looks in the previews like they're going to implode next week, complete with a good old fashioned temper tantrum!

LionTamer 02-22-2010 12:29 PM

If they really are working cowboys, then they're used to handling animals, and animals can probably sense their ease. Also, they can spot an animal that's easy to handle, vs one that's going to be tougher.

They got really lucky. Same with the bus. I love how they didn't tell the others that the bus was at another terminal. It did suck though that they lost most of their lead waiting for the trail to open.

AGDee 02-22-2010 01:29 PM

I was thinking about the buses as well as the llama when I thought about their luck. I also think that things were a little less chaotic when they first showed up. They didn't try to chase one, they waited until one came to them and it was so much quieter that the llamas were less stressed too. Besides, in being first, they got the friendly, calm llama!

Kappamd 02-22-2010 02:54 PM

This episode was so lame, especially the detour. Come on TAR, jumping off a pier and swimming 10 feet to the clue? You can do better.

They remind me so strongly of Team Guido from season one that we've started calling them Team Guidette. I can only hope they'll be as magnificently evil as the Guidos were.

MysticCat 02-25-2010 11:36 AM

Finally got to watch it last night.

Sad for Grandma, but not surprised. It was going to happen sooner rather than later. But I held out hope it would be the idiot detectives (who failed to notice the big ol' sign for the detour) or the brothers, in whom I find no redeeming qualities in.

The cowboys were awesome, and I agree that their ease around animals helped with the llamas and the cow.

I couldn't agree more. Please let them go soon. Did CBS put them on as a Lenten penance for the rest of us?

I was really hoping Miss SC and her boyfriend would beat them to the pit stop and deny them their "moral victory."

ETA: I also meant to ask if I was the only one laughing when Phil talked about the traditional German dish called Kuchen (and the cowboys wondering what it was and saying it was sort of like pie). Kuchen is nothing but German for "cake" -- a traditional German dish called cake. Heh.

Psi U MC Vito 03-01-2010 01:56 AM

The Cowboys really lucked out with the roadblock. I'm really starting to like them. The detour was funny. I love how everybody had so much difficulty with the compass one. And I found it funny the cowboys were sizing up horses for the polo.

Also, why are the nice agreeable teams the ones to keep getting eliminated?

AGDee 03-01-2010 07:40 AM

Line of the night "We are SO Stupid" "We shouldn't even reproduce". LOL

Did you see the look on Jordon's face when he said that? She looked PISSED!

LOVED this.

There were actually a bunch of funny lines from this episode.

"You've been a cop for 23 years!"
"But I've never done a grid search!"

:D

Psi U MC Vito 03-01-2010 01:34 PM

I love how the one brother didn't want to wear the black uniform because they were wearing black pants.

"We're not trying to look good"
"I am"

You mean how everyone had trouble reading. Good grief people.

I am loving the cowboys. Still hate the newly-dating women.

Psi U MC Vito 03-07-2010 09:13 PM

Yes the two teams I hate are working together. I hope they do horrible.
