Wow, has it really been 10 years

since this board was created. How time flies. Hehe, I've just realized that I've been a member of this board longer then most people been a member of the organization.

DaemonSeid 01-06-2010 09:04 AM

Oldhead.

KAPital PHINUst 01-06-2010 02:19 PM

I'm one of those oldheads, my 10 year anniversary is on the 26th of this month.

i wish there were screen shots. it would be the equivalent of Ma and Paw sitting us down with old photo albums telling us stories about "back in their day."

i lurked a lot before i signed up, a good portion of 2003.

UofISigKap 01-06-2010 07:27 PM

Thanks for the links Jen! I DO remember it looking different, but I couldn't remember what had changed. I'm not a year 2000 member, but it's definitely been awhile. :)

moe.ron 01-06-2010 09:26 PM

Greek Life and Chit Chat used to be in the same forum. It got really messy.

Little32 01-06-2010 09:29 PM

I have been around for about that long too.

I joined GC in Jan. 2003 and lurked for a year (maybe posted in some non-Greek threads) until I actually rushed in 2004. So I've been here for 7 years!

It's funny to think that when I posted my rush thread, I was a sophomore in college. Now I'm applying for Doctorate programs. Crazy.

And my posts are still pink.

PM_Mama00 01-06-2010 10:13 PM

What's your favorite thread?

Mine is still James' missing penis.

Your 10 year anniversary is my 27th birthday! I'm feeling OLD! I love GreekChat and I have met tons of incredible people on here! It really opened my eyes to all the organizations and helped get rid of some beliefs I held about certain GLOs.

It has been interesting to see how sorority recruitment works throughout the United States. I like seeing how sororities vary from chapter to chapter. This board has showed me a lot!

I'm glad to be a member of GC with all you other incredible GCers!

I actually remember that! I can also recall a time when T.E. was a well-liked member of GC. How weird is that?!

It may not be that old but my favorite thread is still the taunting of KDLady00 with the tiara pictures. It still cracks me up to think of it. :D

That's probably my fave thread and my fave perp EVER.

Second fave is the "I want to drop out of my sorority because I'm prettier than all my sisters and they're intimidated by my hotness" thread.

My third fave being the AI-related thread where a certain someone basically said something like "Collegiate sorority members are lazy, they do nothing except sit in their little houses and paint their nails all day! Alumnae do the REAL work!" Everybody was like "wtf?"

xp2k 01-07-2010 01:26 AM

wow Greekchat is only 10 years old?

I joined in December of 2000...so I've got exactly 12 months before my 10 years anniversary (I joined on 12/6/00).

Remember when the site had that chat program...but no one would use it because the "Greek Nationals" would use it to chat...in what else....Greek? lol

I remember that crazy guy who became a reverend and then had it out for a certain BGLO.

Or Wishinhopin's thread...whatever happened to NBO? Did they ever get a national charter?

I too remember when Earp was liked.

I used to be a lot more active...now I mostly just lurk.

My favorite posts to read involve the recruitment stories...I could read those all year!

Leslie Anne 01-07-2010 01:51 AM

Hey, remember Newbie? She was still in high school and was probably the most knowledgible future PNM and everyone's favorite. She popped by a few years ago and it turned out she didn't go Greek.

She's probably married with children by now. Yeesh! That makes me feel old.

Unfortunately, NBO has closed down, and they never chartered. I think they almost became a colony of Alpha Xi Delta, then they were looking into Theta Nu Xi. I'm not sure when they closed, but the chapter wasn't around when I started at UCSC in 2005.

xp2k 01-07-2010 02:37 AM

Isn't mentioning Gamma Chi like saying looking in a mirror and saying Bloody Mary three times?

tld221 01-07-2010 11:01 AM

^^ you know, i WISH i had been around for the Gamma Chi trainwreck. i read the thread and its not the same.

sometimes you want to watch a thread blossom and grow into the trainwreck you know it will be.

The thing I remember the most from my pre-registration lurking days was how everyone really seemed to know everyone on the board. I know there are still main personalities that everyone recognizes, but I could pretty much immediately tell you what organization *everyone* was from (without sigs) and whether they were collegians or alumni. Also seemed like there were way more collegians compared to alumni. But, could have been that I just noticed them more, since I was still in college then, myself.

carnation 01-07-2010 06:31 PM

About the time I came, the Voldemorts had begun to attack. I do not miss that.

Maybe all those collegians grew up with GC and are now alumni.

I remember the light bulbs.

Where is lifesaver these days? I miss his posts, especially the "God this is off color" thread about junk stank. And then there is "ho be lookin' like a predator" and then that movie called "Followers".

My 10 year anniversary is in May.

xp2k 01-08-2010 05:45 AM

Erik Conrad died?

I really liked him too. I thought he had some interesting ideas.

Kevin 01-08-2010 11:38 AM

It's fun going back and looking at old posts. When I started posting here, I was a member of a fledgling colony. That chapter is now preparing for its 10 year anniversary in a couple years.

Gamma Chi was totally hilarious from my point of view. A group destined to implode, everyone probably knew it, and so many folks had such strong opinions about what was basically nothing.

I also remember the days when we didn't have so damn many spammers.

Ah good times and high drama.

Seems fitting for us as an online community. :)

congrats on that man

I hadn't even joined my colony then. (we turn 10 as a chapter next year)

Yes, a little over three years ago. He had some significant healh issues, which included/led to multiple amputations.

There's a thread about his death here. Earlier threads about his health are here and here.

When I started here, I'm pretty sure you were in college and just talking about law school. Now you're a lawyer. Crazy.

I also recall when it was not out of the ordinary for GCers to say things like "OMG you're so amazing and I'm sure you're going to get a bid" in rush threads.

It was also not out of the ordinary for GCers to say "Oh don't worry, there's always AI!" when said PNMs rush didn't end successfully.

tld221 01-08-2010 05:04 PM

what's the actual anniversary date? I feel like John needs to come on and say a few words to commemorate the occasion.

It really warms my heart to read this thread because it like a family. A sick, twisted family, but one to offer advice, lend an ear, or far more - folks meet up and such. I didn't know that Erik Conrad died but i really got a tear in my eye. I think i'd do the same if it was any of you who i've gotten to e-know.

Ok, that was really sappy but the sentiment is real. Cheers to GC!

I want to say approximately December 15, 1999, but it could have been earlier than that, if so probably no earlier than about the 1st of December.

Bump for my (belated) 10 year anniversay here at GC. A toast to those GCers, past and present, who became legends here and helped make GC the premiere GLO message board that it is today. Such legends include Prettygyrl, SH80(er/est), Fred Hatchett, Tom Earp, OTW, Erik P. Conard (RIP), Shinerbock, CT4 (aka The 25,000 Post Pyramid), AKA2D91, the founders and members of the late great Gamma Chi, and many others, but one more name to acknowledge, our founder, John Hammell.

I don't know if I'll be around much for the 2nd ten years, but I'll always remember the great times and memories I had while posting here.

Live, love, laugh, and above all, keep posting!

I don't know how I came across, but I believe it was just yesterday I saw a thread that was started in November 1999.
