Greek Councils

Hello all!!
Im new to GC,and last year founded my own Sorority...we were recognized by the National american greek council, but, I havent had any contact with them since our recognition in Feb., 2009. I see thier website is no longer up, and the email is not working..bummer.
Do any of you know of any councils that are accepting applications? We want to be recognized BEFORE we are incoporated fully. We are a community based org.
Thank you for your time.:)

Why do you wish to be part of a council. Also you said that you founded your sorority last year. Is it even national in scope yet?

bigsisterhera 01-02-2010 03:48 PM

Weant to be a part of a greek council for the reason to have that initial recognition. we dont want to be classified as just another run of the mill org. we know that we can be as big and as great as we put our minds too. we are not in national recognition, no, and we know its an uphill struggle....we are just looking for advice....

HUH?

moe.ron 01-03-2010 12:27 AM

They want fame first.

Senusret I 01-03-2010 12:31 AM

You need to get incorporated FIRST.

als463 01-03-2010 02:01 AM

I don't get it. If you wanted to be affiliated with a National organization, why didn't you just JOIN a national organization? I understand some people enjoy their local organizations while others appreciate what International/ National organizations have to offer, but why join a local only to work your butt off and become national? That seems like a lot of unreasonable work. Am I missing something?

lol @ "no felonies"

I would focus on growing your membership first. Personally invite other friends to join your sisterhood. That way you can avoid felons. Then worry about trying to incorporate.

Xidelt 01-03-2010 07:43 AM

To the op: why not check out orgs like sigma beta xi or beta sigma phi?

als463 01-03-2010 05:47 PM

You do realize that the letter for Eta isn't an E, right? You keep referring to things as AEO, yet you call yourselves Alpha Eta Omega. Your pictures consist of some random family/ kid pics and a cake. You spelled "sisterhood" wrong on your craigslist listing. Also, on your craigslist listing, you stated you were women of high distinction and higher education, yet you say that members can have a GED and don't necessarily have to hold a college degree. Also, by putting the word TRUE in all caps denotes that you may look to other sororities as untrue sisterhoods. It seems a bit weird to me that you would place a listing on craigslist for women to join your sorority. I'm sure all the freakshows could come out of the woodworks on this one. Be careful.

It seems as though your organization has a lot of work. Maybe you should just stick to looking into either a national/ international organization or a local sorority that is already established.

Wow! It seems as though someone has founderitis. Both "pearls" (which is spelled wrong on the founders page above "Hera) are with men who also started their own organizations. It seems as though "Hera" runs the whole ship. She even has a link to the fraternity founded by her "Zeus" on the website of the pearls. Go check out his site too: http://gammaphialpha.webs.com/

This whole thing seems very self-absorbed and weird. I don't even see how they got their letters on that cake. Alpha Eta Omega would really be AHO and Gamma Phi Alpha is written all over the website as GPA. She and her buddy started the sorority and her husband started his own fraternity by himself. It is all actually pretty funny. I sure needed that laugh. Maybe tomorrow I can start my own sorority, by myself, and give myself a Greek name, as well. Wow, just wow...

I'm so done with this thread.

AHO + craigslist post + husband and wife founderitis = GTFOH

Mystic-you always make me lol. That is bad because when you do it in a computer lab full of people or at work, everyone tends to think there is something wrong with you.

Anyway, I noticed she did not show up since she posted. Maybe she realized her club was a joke and now she doesn't want to come back. She actually named herself Hera and the other founder is named Aphrodite. She then called her husband Zeus. Good grief.

okay, I THINK the reason for wanting recognition is so that they would be considered "legitimate". However, anyone can found a council as easily as they can create a sorority. So unless there is a group that you want to specifically recognize you, I wouldn't worry about it. Build your sorority first.

I guess I don't see the big deal with the names (hera, zeus, etc.) since I know line names aren't that uncommon.

And I am a horrible speller, so I can't jump on that one either. But double checking is never a bad idea (or have someone else double check before you post).

I'm officially starting my own Greek Council Recognition Organization. For just $1000 you can register your organization with me, and I will make sure that your organization is "legit." No one else can use your organization's name, call sign, craigslist format when you safely list your group with me! Just PM me now to register first.

Well, not every group should be able to exclude felons in their craigslist ads!

I'll have to do some thinking about the council name...Legit Greeks R Us?

Nothing. He meant (I assume) he died laughing at and/or the OP's credibility was killed by (1) the mistake you pointed out and (2) that the correct letters spell "A Ho."
