2010 Resolutions!

What are yours?

Last year I resolved to get more organized and I did but I really need to organize the house better. (Given the circumstances, lol.):D

So...that's number one. I'll make more as the year progresses rather than now.

AlwaysSAI 12-30-2009 01:23 PM

This year, I have two big things.

1. Buy the African Fat-tailed Gecko I have wanted for four years.
2. Buy a Mazda3.

Smaller, less monetary things:

1. Make more connections as an alumna in all my orgs (I'm already doing this for SAI. Waiting to hear back from AGD. & PSP is....not strong on the alumnae issue.)
2. Realize that being "a whole lot of woman" (& I mean personality wise) is not a bad thing.

ThetaPrincess24 12-30-2009 02:11 PM

1. Lose more weight! I'm still a vegetarian, but I want to cut out more junk and eat less cheese (atleast in my own home).

2. Make a BIG life decision and stop putting it off :(

DrPhil 12-30-2009 02:13 PM

I don't do NY resolutions.

But, a lot of excellent transitions are happening in 2010, so it's going to be an even better year than the previous better years. :D

twotimestalia 12-30-2009 02:17 PM

1. Beat my boss and co-worker in our own version of the biggest loser.
2. Cook more meals I can eat (I'm vegetarian, too)

bellefille 12-30-2009 02:25 PM

1. I want to become a vegetarian! I'm currently reading Eat Right 4 Your Type and it's a lifestyle change on eating based on your blood type. Mine says I should follow a plan that's limited in meat, so that's my one goal.
2. Along those lines, I want to adopt more Buddhist fundamentals in my life. If you aren't sure about what those would be, PM me.. or just read up on it.
3. I would love to be able to run longer so I'm going to try to add 10 minutes to how long I run each month.

May everyone have a happy and healthy New Year!

Xylochick216 12-30-2009 02:31 PM

I always fail at my resolutions, so I picked some things I can actually do.

1. Learn the words to "We Didn't Start the Fire."
2. Learn the "Single Ladies" dance
3. See Jimmy Buffett in concert as many times as possible.

Silly things, yes, but I could actually succeed this year!

APhiAnna 12-30-2009 02:44 PM

I don't do new years resolutions, but the resolutions I have been focusing on recently are cutting out caffeine (near impossible), getting to the gym 6 times a week for 45 minute cardio/weights/abs "quick-hitters" (surprisingly easy) and partying less. The last one is the toughest...I am the definition of an extrovert in real life and at my age range the primary social outlet is bars...I love the ease of being able to go out and see 20 people you know, but the days after are completely lost in terms of productivity and health.

ADqtPiMel 12-30-2009 02:50 PM

Qualify for the Boston Marathon! It's not going to happen, but I might as well try.

How are you going to make a resolution that's not going to happen? LOL

Well, I think it's possible, just not during 2010 -- unless my training goes perfectly.

XAntoftheSkyX 12-30-2009 02:59 PM

If you are used to eating a lot of meat on a daily or weekly basis, start small if going vegetarian is your goal by slowly cutting different meats out of your diet. Also dont forget that if a dish has beef or chicken stock/broth in it, it is not a vegetarian dish!

Thanks for the advice! Right now I only eat chicken and very seldom fish, I cut out all red meat a while ago. I feel like that will make it easier but I still know it's going to be a difficult transition.

1. Lose 10-15 pounds, which losing weight has never been on my resolution list, but this year I gained about 10 pounds because I graduated, thus no more intramural sports lol!

2. Get my boyfriend to put a ring on it and start planning a wedding already! :D (We've been together for 4 yrs, 8 mos so this is conceivable)

3. Get a real job.

I LOVE your resolutions! Maybe I should come up with one serious resolution and one that's more fun. I (surprisingly) haven't gained any weight during the holidays, but I've still gained a lot in the past year or so. Sooo I'll make a goal to lose some number of pounds.

What should my fun one be??

SWTXBelle 12-30-2009 04:46 PM

1.) Make my classroom a bully-free zone - there has been too much in the way of subtle bullying, and I'm determined to put a stop to it. I want every one of my students to feel valued, safe, and able to learn.

2.) Get healthier - maybe lose weight, maybe not, but I am going to make working out a priority, and watch what I eat.

AGDee 12-30-2009 09:54 PM

I decided last year (not as a New Year's Resolution, because I don't really make those) that I was going get healthier by working out and watching what I eat and I lost 50 pounds in the process. Losing weight wasn't the goal, but it was a great side effect! Since I started grad school in September, working out fell of the "to do" list. I want to get back to it. I felt a lot better when I was doing it. I attained a lot of goals in 2009, including starting grad school.

My hopes for this year (not really resolutions) are that my ex-husband finds a job (locally!), that grad school keeps going well and that I make time to work out in spite of grad school. This next term's class doesn't seem nearly as demanding as last term, so I think I'll be able to pull it off. I don't think I can hit the 4 cardio a week and 3 weight training a week that I was doing before I went back to school, but if I can do 2 cardio and 3 weight training, I'll be happy. I get more self satisfaction and energy from the weight training. I do the cardio because I should. I'm starting this weekend with the workouts.

This year should also be the year that my daughter gets her driver's license, which will free up an amazing amount of time for me.

You should get her a AAA membership for her 16th birthday, they are extremely useful and my parents always felt better knowing that if I had a problem AAA was on the way by the time I called and said "uh...yeah there's a problem with the car."

APhiAnna 12-30-2009 10:13 PM

To all of those talking about losing weight, working out, eating healthier, etc., one of my absolute favorite things in the world is Women's Health magazine. My brothers and dad always read Men's Health, and recently I've been picking up Women's Health. The magazine is STOCKED with nutrition tips, cardio/weight/yoga workouts, healthy recipes, etc. They even have a great iPhone yoga workout app. I don't use it for beauty and style, although there is a little of that, simply because fashion magazines do that coverage better. But if you want fun yet challenging workouts and nutritional advice, it is the best. I feel like it pumps me up to get healthier just because there is a lot of good advice that gets you in the mood to get in shape.

epchick 12-30-2009 11:21 PM

1. Lose weight/get healthy.
2. Start to actually DATE, and not be afraid of it (that's a big thing for an introvert like me)
3. Move out & get my own place.

But still teach her some basic stuff! My dad told me on my 17th birthday (that's when we get licenses, here) when I asked about getting jumper cables and stuff "You're a girl, just call me or AAA" and never taught me anything about cars. I have, to this day, no idea how to change a tire or where basically anything in my car is, and only two weeks ago did I learn to use jumper cables - when a male friend of mine had to jump my car!

That's got to be one of my resolutions this year - learn a little bit more. I have 24 hr. roadside assistance through my insurance, but still - knowing how to do the little things myself would make me a little more comfortable driving alone.

So my resolutions this year:
1)Learn at least one new car-maintenance thing.
2)Start eating more/better - while I don't need to gain weight, if I don't stop being so picky and so anal-retentive about what I eat I will soon.
3)This resolution is shared with my boyfriend = to put at least $25 from each of our paychecks into a savings account to start building ourselves a nest egg.
4) Become a wish granter for the Make-a-Wish foundation.

When I had just graduated, a local vocational school had a once-weekly Basic Auto Maintenance for Women class. It was the best $50 I have ever spent. Three of my friends an I took this -- it was once weekly and ran for 6 weeks.

TPA85 12-31-2009 03:42 AM

I'm just making a couple small ones this year, things that are actually reasonable...
1) Lower my stress/anxiety level.
2) Successfully complete a Project365. I'm excited for this one!! I think it will be neat to be able to look back on later.

I hope to be able to look at this thread in one year and say that both objectives were completed! :)

Smile_Awhile 12-31-2009 04:10 AM

I turn 20 this year- which isn't huge in the grand scheme of things. But I really believe that this is the year where my adult life begins. Yeah, I've got 2 more years of college, but... I don't know. I just think this is going to be a big year in a lot of ways.

So my resolutions-

My Resolutions
1. Make a new resolution each month- it's said it takes 21 times for something to become a habit. That's a month- so I want to make some new (good) habits this year!
2. Make use of a calendar! My head just can't hold it all anymore.
3. Start blogging through a Project365- I just discovered this through TPA85's post, and it is the coolest thing ever. I've been looking for a way to start blogging, and I think that will be a good way to get me started.

January's goal- To start watching my portions and running again

January's resolution- Start watching my food and get to the gym

Ooooh we have one here. They really are fun, you'll love having one.

1. I'm going to lay the man drama to rest (at least with this one man).
2. Get into better shape. I was in GREAT shape and I let it go. I'm getting back to my old routine.
3. Enter the adult spelling bee in Long Beach. :o I've wanted to win a spelling bee my entire life and only ever placed 6th in the county...now that I've found one for adults, I'm going for it!

tld221 12-31-2009 04:22 PM

I stopped doing resolutions last year. I used to go all out, make a list, blog about it etc. And realize that I only reached them out of necessity.

But there is one thing I'd like to start-i want to embrace the adage "get a hobby." Like a real hobby, one that has a set up community, activities, etc. There are lots of things I like but I'm very surface about them. Some ideas:

-comedy (join an improv troupe)
-writing (getting serious about blogging)
-cooking (my sister just finished culinary school and I'm hooked to watching food network)
-something artsy (I used to draw and paint way back when)

I need to be on my way to meeting my future Mr. (Or Ms., who knows) I hope this helps me get on that path.

FSUZeta 12-31-2009 04:31 PM

i got a wii fit for christmas so i will strive to do an hour of exercise daily with it.

KunjaPrincess 01-01-2010 01:08 AM

To be on time for work every day for a whole week - I have 52 chances LOL

Oh, and to get back in my workout routine and go to the gym consistently!

aggieAXO 01-02-2010 01:52 AM

work less and play more
save more $$ so I can go part time in 3 to 5 years
concentrate on running more, had part of my back fused last year which really disrupted my running routine
learn to forgive myself for things I cannot control
dance more

TPA85 01-06-2010 03:38 AM

I've made a new one for myself (in addition to my previously posted few).
I'm going to make myself a cookbook! I've been meaning to do it for a while but I start gathering recipes on labels of stuff or scraps of paper and then they end up getting lost or thrown away, but this year I want to compile all of my stray recipes into a nice, neat book :-)

LucyKKG 01-06-2010 04:04 AM

Ooh! I started taking a picture of something random + a picture of myself every day starting on New Years Day, then I saw TPA's post about Project 365. Yay! So far my pics are: Me and 2 friends on New Years, my dad on the lift while skiing, a chair lift + mountain, a goofy pic of my dad pretending to lift a heavy block, and a hat I just finished knitting.

Yay!

ETA: Ok, I changed my last picture of the day cause it was lame. I took a picture of this chili sauce I used in the dinner I made tonight cause it was excellent! Oh, I'm gonna bump the "What's for Dinner" thread...

pshsx1 01-07-2010 03:11 AM

How did I miss this thread?

Copy + Paste:

Firstly, I want to raise my GPA by a lot. I need to devote more time to my humanities classes which are the ones bringing down my GPA. Although they do not relate to my major, they're still a part of my school's curriculum and I need to do well in them. For the first time, I don't have any classes in my major this semester, so this will force me to do well in the humanities.
Secondly, start eating healthy again like I was at the start of 2009. I have the will power, I just have to see it through instead of stopping at summer like I did this year.
Thirdly, start hitting the gym again. The same thing happened with working out as it did with eating healthy. For this, though, I need to find extra motivation so I just don't sit around at the gym for 30 minutes when I could be doing a ton of other things. That's what we have Brothers for! And then maybe I'll be able to hit the 5k with a few of our other Brothers. :D
Finally, I want to see the plans I have set out for Member Development really help our Brothers and turn into something great in 2010. :D

I want to hit the gym every weekday (or at least do some kind of workout outside the gym on days I don't make it there).
