How big is your national?
Just wondering, how big is your national (in terms of number of chapters all across the nations. Maybe international?)
Theta Delta Chi has around 30 chapters, most of them are in East Coast, with one in U of Toronto. Used to have one in McGill U, Montreal http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif |
My national, Alpha Gamma Delta, has 178 chapters across the USA and Canada which includes 123,000 members. In addition to that there are over 250 Alumnae Chapters/Clubs and Junior Circles.
Our official website boasts that we were the first Greek group organized with the full intention of being an international fraternity, the first NPC group to adopt a specific international philanthropy project (the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation), AND the first NPC fraternity to colonize in Hawaii (my home state and chapter!!). ------------------ *I'm an Alpha Gam...Yes I am, Yes I am!* |
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has over 200,000 members in 950 chapters in the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Bermuda, the Bahamas, Germany, London, Seoul, Tokyo, Okinawa, St. Thomas, and St. Croix.

I was just curious...

there is a Graduate chapter in Hawaii, Lambda Chi Omega chapter...there is no undergraduate chapter in the state as of late. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Matthew & OohTeenyWahine,
The chapters are Germany Alumnae & Hawaii Alumnae. I'm not aware of undergraduate chapters in either location. Perhaps my Sorors in the Eastern and Far West Regions could give further information. |
Delta Tau Delta has about 120 undergraduate chapters and a number of colonies. There are about 5900 active undergraduates, 106,000 living alumni out of total of 140,000 total initiates since our founding in 1858 at Bethany College, Va (Now West Virginia)
The time and place of the founding is important, because, the fraternity very nearly disappeared during the Civil War. I'm guessing here, but I think there are probably around twenty or thirty alumni chapters as well. DeltAlum |
Sigma Chi Has around 225, undergrad chapters with over 200,000 living members.
|
Sigma Sigma Sigma has 103 collegiate chapters, 3 colonies, and 109 alumnae chapters. One of our colonies is in Germany. This historical event places Tri Sigma in the position of being the only NPC sorority to have a colony overseas!!!We were also the first NPC to have a chapter in Alaska, and now we have 2 there!

Among the top 20% of college fraternities in size, Beta Theta Pi was the first to be founded west of the Allegheny Mountains and the first to locate a chapter west of the Mississippi River. The Fraternity was founded August 8, 1839, at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Today, Beta has some 140 chapters and colonies in Canada and the United States.
Initiated Betas: 165,000 Living Betas: 114,000 Undergraduate membership with pledges: 6,200 Colonies/recolonizations: 8 (Oregon State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Connecticut, St. Louis, West Chester, Central Florida, Washington State, William and Mary) [This message has been edited by Miami1839 (edited March 04, 2001).] |

Sigma Phi Epsilon has over 240,000 initiated members. We were founded on November 1, 1901. This is our centenial year. Chapter wise I think we have over 250 and 20 SEC (Colonies). We are the only fraternity to have chapter in every fifty states.

LCA has around 230, and over 230k initiated brothers.
I was just curious about the BGLO's: 1) how many undergrad chapters do you have? 2) what's your ave. chapter size. i'm just curious about these things because, 950 chapters is a LOT, and I was wondering how many of those were undergrad, how many were grad, and how many were alum chapters. and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there some real small chapters? I know you guys don't have intake, rush, or whatever every year, and sometimes, for some chapters, lines are pretty small. is part of the reason you can do this because you don't have houses? i know once chapters get below 25 or so people, it's hard to keep them going, at least as far as the frats i've seen, even though TX has been going for quite some time, with a chapter of about 15 actives. thanks for any answers. the differences between NPHC, NPC, and NIC really interest me. ------------------ Steve Corbin Lambda Chi Alpha Theta Kappa Chapter Rose-Hulman Inst. of Tech. |
NPHC chapters on non-HBCU campuses, which seem to be the majority of undergraduate chapters, are typically pretty small. However, HBCU chapters can have lines of 50-200 hence chapters of 200+ members. Most alumnae chapters, which are geographically-based, typically have about 50-300 members. There may even be more that one alumnae chapter in a metro area, each with it's own defined service area. Of course this varies from org to org and location to location.
Also some orgs use the term alumni/ae and others use the term grad which generally :) mean the same thing. Quote:

in no other countries but the USA or Canada there is a "Greek system" except for the cases where greek chapters have been founded on the basis of American fraternities. However, there are a lot of fraternities and sororities in Europe that have sometimes similar, sometimes different rituals and habits. The roots for these fraternities in Europe date back to the first universities in Bologna, Paris, Prague and Heidelberg even though none can trace its roots as far back as that. |

Beta Theta Pi:
chapters: 135 colonies: 7 undergrads: 6,500 total initiates: 170,000 |
Around 200 chapters and 200K initiated.
We're the 272nd chapter to be founded out of 274 I believe. |
PHI SIGMA SIGMA
112 Active chapters 1 colony as I know... we still rock! |
Alpha Gam is installing our 180th chapter TOMORROW! :D (Sorry, I'm going to the installation and I'm REALLY excited, lol!)
As for numbers of initiates, the last official count I've seen was over 130,000 in 2001. I imagine we are fairly close to 140,000 by now. |
We are on 93 campuses nationwide as of right now and roughly 115,000 members in total, I'm assuming this also includes members of Phi Sigma Epsilon before the merger. We have many non-active chapters including 2 canada.
