Penn State Spring Recruitment
I have googled, searched, and asked questions but I still have some things I would like to know that have gone unanswered.
First of all, I went through SOME of formal recruitment in the fall but after the first day of open houses developed a giant cold that left me worn out and not feeling my best and due to swine flu worries and suggestions from those running recruitment dropped out after first rounds so I am trying again this spring as I truly thing I would love Greek life, especially since I cam from a tiny high school where we all felt like family. 1. How competitive is Penn State in terms of sorority recruitment? I understand that this is the informal spring recruitment and therefore very different. 2. According to hearsay, although I have tried to email/speak with the Greek life office and have yet to receive a response and from searching this board it seems to be common, spring recruitment is going to be more formalized then it has been in the past and we will have to register and pay a fee. Has this happened at any other schools? It seems as though we are having another formal recruitment although the one sorority that has posted information about spring recruitment parties has an open party listed one day and an invitation only party listed for another. I am horribly confused and just wanted to know if this happened at other school and what I should expect! ETA: Also, I have a 3.2 GPA and while I know there may be many other girls with 4.0 does anyone know if this is too low to even try to go through the informal recruitment process. The Pan Hellenic website for Penn State states the average GPA of sorority women is a 3.2 but is it still acceptable? (Sorry I realize this has been asked but this is school specific!) Sorry for the long post and sorry if it seems as though I am clueless! From friends I have in greek life they are just as confused as I am and don't really understand what was going on, and, of course we go back to school and a week later spring recruitment starts! Thanks so much in advance! |

Also, to answer one of your questions, fees and registration for recruitment are pretty typical. Schools with more structured spring recruitment sometimes have registration and fees just like formal. In terms of GPA, what is considered "acceptable" probably varies by chapter. |
There's a facebook group for PSU formal recruitment from the fall. I would send a message to this group since the school website hasn't been updated. People are more likely to be checking Facebook over break.

Yay-Another Penn Stater!!! I love to see Penn State girls going through recruitment! Just know that not all of the chapters will be doing recruitment. Also, please ignore certain gossip websites and go in with an open mind.
This site is great for meeting women/ men from all Greek Letter Organizations who represent their organizations well. Good Luck with recruitment! I hope you find a home! If you have any questions, you can PM me and probably many of the other Penn State Alums on this board! We Are...Penn State!!! |
I am also very confused with PSU spring recruitment this year as well! Some friends I have in various chapters don't even officially seem to know how it is working.
I wish they would update the site. But if I hear anything, I will be sure to let you know, hiller09 |
Thanks everyone for all the questions answered and to the other Penn Staters who chimed in. I just got home from vacation and the PSU Pan Hellenic website said that spring recruitment information would be up soon. I am glad that I hopefully will not be in the dark as it seemed someone last year was due to a lack of information.
Thanks so much! |
the link to register is posted on the PHC website!
|
Good thing that the link is up, but I wish there was a more detailed explanation about it somewhere on the site since there have been so many questions. Or am I missing something?
|
I already registered for spring so I'm super excited I have a couple of friends doing it too so we're ready...now all we need is information! When you register it doesn't even tell you the dates oh well hopefully they will be up soon!
|
i got an error when registering but i am going to try again today
and i still havent found info yet other than hearing that some chapters havent been able to get a date that is okay with the greek life office yet. |
I got a conformation email so I'm good thank goodness! I'm being a total dork and checking the website everyday so hopefully dates will go up soon!
|
I reregistered and got one!
lol its cool I'm being a dork and checking too. lol shh don't tell haha jk |
Haha it's like that commercial for disney when the kids are too excited to sleep...I'm too excited for recruitment =]
but shhh its a secret |
lol the dates are the secret hahaha
wish they were up! |
How many sororities are doing informal?
|
I have heard through the grape line a ton of them are because apparently they increased the quotas for all the sororities and that's why we have to register for recruitment this time around unlike in the past because they understand there will be a higher volume. Also, from what I have heard, the sororities are having a hard time getting dates because they are trying not to have too much overlap because so many sororities are doing the informal recruitment this year and will be able to accept more girls then in the past.
Now I am not, obviously, a part of panhell and therefore don't know the inner workings but this is what I have picked up from friends in greek life. |

They are minus one sorority now, but I don't think they want to add another one, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. |
Haha sorry I'm not greek obviously so I don't know the exact terminology but I heard stuff about the total being increased before tri-delta was gone.
|
Huh, that's weird. But good!! Raising total means the majority of the chapters are healthy.
|
Yeah I also heard that total was raised before TriDelt left... but then again, not yet a part of NPC so I don't know for sure
|
Total was raised before Tri Delta left campus. Some people were confused about the choice, as some sororities were not at total and had not been for some time, however it did sort of even out Tri Delta leaving (though I am still very sad to see such a strong national group go).
Basically almost every sorority will be doing spring recruitment, except for those that quota put them over total (previously 90 women) from fall recruitment. And even then they would have to be at 95 women total. So yes, most of them will be participating. Hopefully the dates will all be up soon, I know a lot of people are wondering about them. |
dateeeeesssssss?????? seriously
|
The only dates I've seen are
Gamma Phi Beta (on their website) and Alpha Sigma Alpha (on facebook) |
