Im a newbie so this may not be completely 100 percent accurat but...when i went though recruitment i know girls who did not have the minimum GPA required by a chapter were not asked back to those houses (from my experience I was going through recruitment so this was the statements from gamma chis and other pnms), however they were asked back to houses who had a lower gpa requirement. If this was the case you should be fine (as long as it is not a super cometetive system) as long as your GPA is at least the minimum for each chapter. For example our Gpa requirement is a 3.0 so u would probably not be asked back :(. Yet ABC's GPA requirement is a 2.45 so you would be elliglibgle, depending on how you conected with the active sisters, to be asked back.
Hope this helped at least a little bit. |
If you're going to scream at us, at least use good grammar!

You may meet the min. requirement for most of the chapters, but FYI: meeting the min. GPA does not necessarily = an invite back to the next round or a bid. The minimum is the min. you need to be CONSIDERED by a chapter. Also, if many other PNMs have higher GPAs, your 2.75 looks ALOT less impressive to the chapters, even if you do meet their minimum. At any rate, even if it is sufficient for some chapters during recruitment, you should probably raise it anyhow. You're in college for an education! Good luck! |
As KSUViolet pointed out, even if you have the minimum you will be competing with other PNMs who have far better GPAs. You will need to stand out in other ways through your personality and resume activities. I also suggest getting Recs even if yours isn't a campus that needs them.

In less than 5 minutes, I was able to pull up the past few years' worth of chapter grades from both of those campuses. New members at UCM have an average of above a 3.0 for their GPA and while Missouri State didn't report new members' GPAs, their chapter GPAs are mostly above 3.0 as well. And, from what I remember, high school classes are much easier than college classes. So it should be easier to have a higher GPA in high school rather than in college. So..... I guess you could try, but just keep in mind that just because you may technically qualify because of your grades, you should probably have a ridiculous amount of extracurriculars or have something else that really shines. But if all we're supposed to judge you on in this forum is your GPA, then I'd say... meh. Mediocre at best.

Are you entering as a freshman? Taking summer classes most likely won't help, since they'll be looking at your high school GPA, which sucks. It may be a good idea for you personally, though, in order to get used to the "courseload." Or being literate on the daily.
I'm not trying to be all Judgey McJudgerson, but you should go to UCM (I'm not even from Missouri, but I can tell that's where a lot of the stupid kids end up nowadays). |
This OP makes me sad :(

I know lot of schools offer Freshman Advantage-esque summer programs. Although I think typically you have to apply/qualify academically for them. Which, despite grammatical evidence to the contrary, the OP may have managed. If that was the case (or she was allowed to enroll in regular summer classes) I doubt it would be enough class credit to give her sophomore status. Both schools do fall formal recruitment a few weeks into the semester, and will be looking at the HS GPA only for incoming freshman. If you've taken Dual Credit (some MO high schools have this instead of AP—basically, you take an advanced class through a CC or college near your high school for college credit, which then transfers to your post-graduate institution) then 1) those credits usually don't factor into your college GPA and 2) they'll just want your HS GPA/transcript as a freshman anyway. If you meant you were going to take summer classes at a local community college or something and then transfer the credits to UCM or MSU, then you should keep in mind the registrar's offices are typically pretty busy around the start of semester (when rush is) and could take a while to process. |

A group of us were picked to take pre-freshman summer courses. It was a program to help integrate academically strong minorities and athletes into college. We all had 12 credits and over 3.0 GPAs going into our freshman years, which was also beneficial in a GLO sense. |
Albeit I graduated from high school in 97, but I took 3 classes that summer after graduation (Eng 101/102 and college algebra). So I'm sure it can be done.
As for the OP and recruitment...a 2.75 GPA may allow you to participate in recruitment, but if the chapters have their own set minimum (could be higher, i.e. 2.9, 3.0), you could see cuts (quite possibly heavy). I don't say this to be mean, but if you don't have that chapters set minimum, they're going to cut you, even if they love you to peices. They have the minimum set by their HQ/EO that they have to follow. I'm pretty sure at ASU, their first set of cuts are purely GPA related. They are ranked via GPA and whoever isn't meeting the chapters minimum is cut and not invited back. You need to be prepared and aware that this might happen at your school. My suggestion, is you need to kick "senioritis" out of your system, focus on your last semester of high school and try to get your GPA up. As for summer classes, I say hey go for it. If you do better in those (like lets say you have a GPA of 3.2), you can somewhat use that. You will be able to say "hey I know my high school gpa is 2.75 but I took some classes and my college gpa is now 3.2". Does it mean that they won't cut you because of gpa? No, because they might not really care because you are an incoming freshmen and they do look at high school. Who knows what they might do. Each of us greek women are only privy to our own member selection process to which we can't/won't divulge. This might sound harsh, but you are going to school for an education, not to be greek. |
