Warning: Corny story ahead!

Umm, our moms hooked us up. They were best friends in high school. Anyway, Mr. 33 had been living here for a while and I had been here a year and a half or so. Our moms were talking about us on the phone and his mom said "do you mind if I give him her number?" My mom figured he couldn't be worse than some of the wabols I'd been dating, so she said yeah, what the hell. He called me and we talked a couple times on the phone and then met for a drink. The rest is history. :)

I think we get along so well because we both left our hometown area for many of the same reasons. Also I don't know what I would have done without him when my mom died - he and his family were comforting in a way someone I "just met" never could have been. And it's neat, because we've actually sort of known each other all our lives - when he was little (he is 6 years older than me) his parents brought him when they came to "see the baby." Who would have guessed back then!

I met my gf at home coming more than 2 years ago. We were paired up with her sorority that year. We did not start to date until like 5 months later.

Awww, that is too adorable!!! I love stories like that :D I would love for the person I eventually end up with to have been in my life for so long!

Another Corny Story...

I met my husband when he was home on leave from the Navy and I was working in New York City. I had been with someone for over 5 years, but when a coworker wanted to know if I was interested in meeting her friend I said hey why not? I'm not a b**ch or anything (well, most of the time), but the old boyfriend wasn't really working out but I was too lazy to do anything about it.

We hit it off immediately; got engaged after a month, I moved down to Virginia to be with him after 2 months and we were married after 4 months. 10 years later and we have two kids, assorted dogs and we're still deliriously happy (blah, how obnoxious!) :D

IowaHawkeye 10-17-2001 07:16 PM

I am such a hopeless romantic...

Aww Tracy! How swept off your feet romantic!! It must be something about those Navy men... my sister (biological) met a Navy boy last summer, and even though he's at the Academy in Annapolis and she's in Chicago, theyre still all googly over each other!

Josh and I "officially" met in a play the summer before our senior year of HS.

However, our parents had known each other for years. My parents were lawyers for the bank his mom worked for. His mom and my mom used the same obstatrican(sp?) and after I was born and my mom had lots of prenatal vitamins left over, she gave them to Josh's mom. So we were sharing things when he was still in-utero.

Growing up, I'd always hear about stuff that Josh had done, but I never knew him personally. A guy that I became friends with in 8th grade through theater turned out to be his best friend. But still, we didn't meet. It wasn't till auditions for a play in junior year that I met him, but it was for like 30 minutes. We went our separate ways after that audition and didn't see each other again, except at a football game between our two high schools.

At the end of my junior year of HS, I decided to transfer to the other HS in my town so I could take some upper level language classes that they didn't offer at my school. The summer before senior year, I did the usual summer theater workshop, and Josh was in the play. We were cast as love interests in the play, and we've been inseperable ever since. We started dating in Sept 1997 and its been wonderful ever since :D

My boyfriend and i met through a mutual friend. I was extremely adiment about not hanging out with her hs school friends when we moved to pa after graduation, but she begged me and was like "just do this once for me! i don't want to go by myself!". So we shlepped 45 mins. from philly to west chester and went to this guy Pablo's house...sparks like flew across the room the moment i met him.
well pablo and i hit it off incredibly well making fun of my other friend and went to the bar to meet up with a bunch of people...lo and behold his exgirlfriend shows up at the bar and they hadn't seen each other since they had broken up the month before (they broke up over the phone after like 4 years!!!) so pablo turned to me and said "ok pretend your my girlfriend for the rest of the night so she stays away" and i was like "of course!". So for the rest of the night he and i danced together, drank together, and just had a fabulous time together. Everyone was saying how he and i "just clicked" and then we went to go to another bar (but we ended up not going bc one of our friends didn't want to go...long story!) so as we were headed out to the parking lot we ended up hooking up, which was pretty cool.
we then ended up spending the rest of the weekend together and had the best time. that was 8 mos. ago. Now we live together and have a very bad puppy!!!!

I met my husband during fraternity rush. It was my first semester as a little sister (I know not PC term), and he was an active. I didn't really realize he was interested at first b/c he was in charge of organizing all the little sis's, so when he kept calling to invite me to fraternity functions I just thought it was kind of his job or something. But, after a couple of times I started realizing I was one of the few girls there.

Then one day he called up and asked me to go to dinner with him, and I thought why not. So I went, and the rest is history. I met him in the Spring of 95 and we've been married for 4 years.

aephi alum 10-17-2001 09:31 PM

The short story is, we met at a party his dorm was hosting.

The long story (ready?):

One of my sorority sisters tried to set me up with my future husband. This was way back in my freshman year, their sophomore year. Somehow it never quite worked out though...

Fast forward 2 years. I was a huge fan of Babylon 5. Unfortunately, it conflicted with Lois & Clark, and everyone on my floor watched L&C, and there was only one TV on the floor, and no VCR. (One guy used to stake out the TV an hour in advance  ) I knew my sister was a big B5 fan, so I asked her if she knew of anyone with a TV who would be watching. Turns out a friend of hers (yep, you guessed it... "him") was running a weekly B5 party in his dorm entry. So I became a regular there.

Meantime, I started dating a different guy... I dated him for 4 months, which ended suddenly in a rather painful breakup. (He dumped me by IM  ) By the time that happened, my future husband was dating someone else. Well, a couple months later, *that* ended in a painful breakup...

So he was available when I bumped into him at that party. I knew he was a friend of my sister, and she is a woman who picks her close friends very carefully, so that carried a lot of weight. He thought the same of me. So we got to talking, and one thing led to another, and we've been together almost 5-1/2 years now, and married for 2 of those. No complaints here :D

Picture it: LSU's union, by the ATM machine

I was standing there minding my own business waiting in line to use the ATM. I started looking in my purse for my card and the next thing I know my behind is on the ground. He bumped into me because he wasn't paying attention. We went out on a date the next day and it was the most incredible date I had ever had. We dated for 2 years, but he's moved on now. We are still best friends though.

I met my hubby...

...at a football game in junior high. Now I don't remember this, but he claims I came over and sat on his lap during half time of a football game where I was cheering.

No, we weren't junior high or high school sweethearts. We weren't really even friends in high school. We actually got together during college. But that (apparently) was our initial meeting. Ha ha! ;)

Must be a Navy thing...

My guy also went to the Naval Academy. My sorority sister's best friend (female) went to the Naval Academy. She mentioned this guy I should meet. So we started talking on IM and through email...then one day he just called. After 6 months of this, he came to visit...and we've been together ever since...almost three years now.

A little side note: We found out many weird connections. His Dad went to HS with my best friend (different sorority sister)'s Mom. They grew up in the same home town and his Grandparents still lived there. Same best friend's boyfriend played Baseball and his coach was my guy's Uncle. And weirdest one (which we found out after 2 years together!)...my best guy friend obviously met and knew all about my guy, Marc. One day my friend and I were out and he said, "You know you never told me Marc's last name." I tell him, and he was SHOCKED! He and Marc grew up in neighboring towns in middle of no where PA, and were in boy scounts together. My friend was the Scout Master (or whatever you call them in boy scouts). To this day when I see my guy friend's Mom, she always asks how "Little Marc" is. Too many coincidences.

aephi alum- I met (I use that word loosely) my Hubby when his dorm floor threw a party. Anyone remember the song "Momma Told Me Not To Come"? Well, that's a perfect description. Some guy grabs me and pulls me onto his lap. He starts dangling his room key and I just sat there scared to death. With a wicked little laugh he says, "Maybe in a year or two." and helps me off his lap. OF COURSE THIS CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. Good grief did my heart start pounding and pulse racing. (I had only gone steady with a boy who intended to be a minister) I found out when he ate, what his classes were and tried to be around his vicinity. I was so struck. He started dating a pass-a-round but always showed just enough interest to keep me going. He was dead serious about his studies so one night, I walked over to his dorm's study and gave him some milk and cookies. (I read that if you give a man milk it stirs something within him all warm and fuzzy due to the mammory connection) Well, it worked because he called the next weekend and ....

OK, here we go....

We were both working in Valencia, Spain at the time (he was working legally, I was NOT, but I guess that's way beside the point :) )....

I was out w/one of my former college roommates who had come to Spain to visit me (OK this is so random, but she had actually been my roommate in Valencia during our "junior year abroad"; she had actually just come back to visit for a couple of weeks, while I had decided to move back to Spain on a much more permanent basis....sorry for the aside....). ANYWHO.....

We went out to eat, and at the next table was a big group of people, speaking mostly Spanish but I heard a few English words too. One of them heard us speaking to each other in English, and came over to introduce himself and his group of friends (on the pretext of "Oh we really want to practice our English" - like I hadn't heard THAT line before  )....

Well, it turned out to be a group of Spaniards who were out having a meal w/their teacher (a Brit).....we ended up going to a nightclub w/them and the "Brit" pestered the hell out of me, until I finally gave him my phone number and agreed to meet up w/him for dinner the following week.

I had no intention of turning up for the date, but he called me to make sure I was going to be there - so I had to show, just couldn't be too cruel.....and to put an end to this too-long story - we've been married now for 10 years!!

ZTAngel 10-18-2001 10:33 AM

I was feeling sick all day and wanted nothing more than to just sit in bed and watch TV. There was a Kappa Sig party that night and my roommate had to drag me out there. I was on so much medication that I already felt really dizzy. A friend of mine came over to me and kept begging me to take just one shot. I finally gave into him and did. With the medication and not feeling well, all it took was just one shot for me to be drunk. It was so sad. My roommate was talking to this one guy who I thought was so cute. I decided that I would go and introduce myself. On my way over to them, I lost control of my balance and fell right in front of him. He caught me. What can I say? It was love at first sight. ;) Actually, no, he thought I was a total moron. Luckily, he gave me another chance and we spent the whole night talking. When I left, I forgot to give him my number. A few days later, he called my roommate asking for my number. He called me that day and the rest is history. :)

I must admit that I once saw a girl who was so stunningly beautiful, when she turned and spoke to me, I was simply lost in awe. I couldn't think of a thing to say and my mind was completely filled by the sight of her beauty. I must have looked like a complete idiot, but, jeez, she was beautiful.

It was a few years ago....I was about 8 , but it's completely true. I lost track of her when we went to different universities, but she always looked fantastic every time I saw her.:D

Another Meant to be Story

I love hearing these stories!

And now, here's mine:

He was in my grade four class. I don't really remember him from then, but...we ended up in swimming class together at 15. I gave him his first hug (which I found out later, of course!) after I scraped his back on the pool deck when I tried to remove him from the water!! Not terribly romantic, but made an impression  He lived down the street from great friends of the family, so I knew a ton about him indirectly. Forward to university.

I arrive on campus, knowing no one, and my sister pipes up that I should call my now bf b/c he's listed in the campus directory. Why I should call? She has a huge crush on his younger brother! Ran into him throughout the four years, but only got interested the last year of school, when he hired me to work in the kitchen at a popular student bar in town. He was the kitchen manager, I was the pizza girl...and after two months of my mother asking "What about him?" , he confessed his attraction one night after I ended up at his place... "stranded" by my roommates ;)

We've been dating for almost two years and life is sweet.

Blind Date

I met Kevin on a blind date!

At work, every Friday- happy hour- we'd sit at the pub and b_tch how there are no good men out there. Well, one of the guys that had to listen to us rant every Friday fixed me up and .... it must of worked.... we met on October 12th- 1993, got engaged on October 12th 1995- got married on October 12th 1996. We did not plan the baby right though.... he or she will be due around May 19th! :)

My freshman year of college I made friends with Pete. Turns out our parents used to work together at the newspaper. I knew he liked me but was NOT interested. As we became better friends, he told me about his friend Rob and how I was never allowed to meet him. I shrugged it off and didn't really care.

At the end of the year Pete and I were thinking of moving into an off campus apartment since we both hated the dorms. One day he was to come to my parents house to pick up the listings. Well, he came over and brought Rob.

First impression: Who is this long haired freak in my kitchen? About two seconds later: Long haired freak is kind of cool. Nothing came of it but friendship as we both were seeing other people.

Years go by with us as friends. Two years later (June 7, 1997) we made plans to hang out with a group to watch a hockey game. After our team won, he looked over at me and said "So which one of us is going to tell Pete there's something going on?"

A few "breaks" later we are stronger and closer than ever...

(and thankfully he has normal hair now!)

dzrose93 10-18-2001 12:33 PM

My bf and I have worked together for about 1 1/2 years, but since we are in different departments at the office, we never spoke. Then, 2 mutual friends (a married couple from work) started up a co-ed softball team about 5 months ago, and we both signed up to play.

After the first practice, our team went out to have dinner and a few drinks. We hit it off talking to each other, so the next night our match-making couple invited us both over for dinner. The rest is history!

The funny thing is, my bf says that he always thought I was pretty when he saw me at work but, for some reason, had the impression that I was a straight-laced Southern-Baptist girl who never partied (his words, not mine). He's a Yankee from Cleveland and his family is Catholic, so he just assumed that we would be complete opposites.

He told me later that when he looked down the table that night after our first practice and saw me downing draft beer that he was completely blown away. When he found out that I was Catholic, he was even more shocked. haha!! :)

Possibly my ex-gf?!?! Ever actually gotten the girl WAY out of your league? Well, this was actually my second, but she was WAY out....she was a bit older, was my SOSer (Student Orientation Staff) at Freshman Orientation and we stayed up all night chatting it up. Well, she goes on to be the most popular girl on campus, no joke, wins all these awards, super-involved, practically single-handedly reorganizing the uni for the better, and 2 years later, we being dating. Things going great and all, but I'll let you know...the girls that really are too good to be true...they probably are. It was funny when she'd come to things with me though, I honestly had guys come up to me saying I was the luckiest man alive, telling me "do you realize that your dating and whatever else with one of the schools true legends?" It was funny, no one could believe little old cory could pull this female, but hey...guess they were right though...4 months later and it was done...but hell, that's my longest relationship in a long time, and seemingly my last love (used loosely) interest, and that was 6 months ago!

edited to say:
Upon reading that, it sounds like a bunch of highschool freshman getting a senior, doesn't it? It's not typically that way on campus...you just cannot fathom this girl.

HAVE I GOT A STORY FOR YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

BUT, THERE IS A BRIGHT SIDE TO THIS STORY................;)

The same week my bf told me what was going on, I received a reply from an old bf from Okinawa, Japan. He and I dated in Jr. High/HS. We dated for a year and five months. He had moved to NC and eventually we broke up. I was so heartbroken after that that I didn't date anyone else for another year and a half. I never forgot him or stopped thinking about him.

So, we began writing each other and talking on the phone. In September he came out to see me!!! It was awesome. It felt like we never even parted to begin with. He wants to marry me!!!!!!!
And...I want to marry him!!!! It's out of control!!! I can't believe all of this. You know how they say, "you'll just know"...well, you do!!!

I stopped believing in fate and the whole, "things happen for a reason", but I can't explain all of this in any other way. I never really let the Okinawa bf go...in my heart that is. Perhaps this is why...b/c he's the one I'm supposed to marry. I never really could see myself marrying the bf who cheated on me...and he wanted to a long time ago. Now, I'm ready to run...not walk...down the aisle. Of course, I'm not going to. I'm a thinker, an analyzer, so I have to take my time. Except, I don't want to over analyze my situation. It feels so wonderful!!! So, right!!! I feel so at peace!!! Am I crazy, or what?

I've left out lots of details b/c of time and privacy. However, I hope I was able to get my enthusiasm for my new beau across. I can't say enough just how awesome this is.

:D I'm happier than I've ever been. :D

Sweetie, I can't believe it!!! I'm SO STOKED for you - you totally deserve all of it! I'm so happy for you girlie, me typing the words out can't really adequately explain my happiness for you, but realize it couldn't have happened to a better girl!!!

Shopgirl, you rule! May you have the best relationship ever! :D:D:D

SigkapAlumWSU 10-18-2001 07:44 PM

I met my fiance while we were both working at Target. I swear that I spent days after he started telling all my co-workers how cute and nice I thought he was. I later found out that he had been saying the same thing about me. Well, he drove one of my co-workers home and she finally told him how into him I was ( it took about an hour to convince him that I was actually interested, so she says..) and the next day, he asked me out on a date.
Four days later he proposed, and almost two years later, here we are! The weirdest thing is all the "almost meetings" that we had. He had dated a close next door neighbor of mine, and worked right around the corner from my house. He also was close friends with a friend of mine who I had recently lost touch with and dated another girl in my senior high school class. We are still finding mutual aquaintances (sp?)that we share.

AKAtude 10-18-2001 08:22 PM

Well, during my freshman year at college my husband's roommate and I had a class together. When he found out where I was from he said his roommate (my husband) was from the same place, and he asked if I knew him. I didn't. We were eventually introduced, but that was about it.

After my spring semester final exams were over I was on my way home and saw my friend's roommate on the side of the road. I recognized his car from around campus. Since I knew we were both from the same city and he was a fellow student, I pulled over to offer my help. :D We were about 40 miles from home so he decided to get a ride with me and leave his car on the interstate.

He got my home number and called me during the summer. We became friends and the following summer (1994) we began dating. Seven years later, we got married! It will be five months Oct. 26th!

And the rest, as they say, is history...

erniegurl00 10-18-2001 08:46 PM

I met my bf (financee if you rather) online! Odd huh? During Spring Break I was really bored and wanted an online buddy to talk to, so on a whim I made up a Yahoo Personal add for a pen pal. Low and behold I met Jeremy! We talked for a few weeks and decided to meet (he attends school less than an hour away from mine). One of my sorority sisters and I set up a double blind date with one of his friends and him. Those two didn't hit it off, but we sure did! :p

His family moved from NY to AL (boy what a culture shock:rolleyes: ). My uncle and family moved from SC to AL (not so much of a shock). I used to visit unc/fam during summers. Future hubby and I were just friends but got kinda serious one summer..right before his family moves to KY. Forward..a couple years, he happens to be in town the day my cousin gets married (another part of the puzzle I won't go into). He and I get into a disagreement about Greeks..foward 8 years, we both happen to move to Houston and start dating/living together, etc. Of course the Houston economy bites the dust bigtime so I head back to GA. He goes to KY and MS (I tell him when he gets to a place where I can find a decent job, there's hope)..anyway, he FINALLY moves to GA. We got married May 99 (yesterday was 3 years on the day he proposed..beautiful flowers, nice dinner..watch Braves game..what can I say....)

I've shortened this b/c I don't want to say how many yearrrrrrsss this took!:D But we are still together after all these years when several weddings we went to ended up in divorce.

I told him if this relationship didn't work out, I'd just get a great dog!
:)

She was a hostess at the restaurant I bartend at. We were so slammed that night, and I was the only bartender. This chick wanted me to make her a flaming dr. pepper, and I grabbed this bottle of 151 and slung it out of the speed well and caught it upside down in this lady's drink, and lit it. I noticed that the new hostess was standing there watching me, then she turned to leave. When she got off work she came and sat at my bar. The rest is history.

Even though we're not technically together anymore....

Brady and I met at my sorority sister's house one night. Her husband was a 2nd class Petty Officer at that time and they liked to have parties. I had been to a few already at their house but was not really impressed with the Coasties that I met there...until Brady walked through the door. I know this doesn't sound good but we got piss drunk over margaritas and Tequila, somehow found our way to the couch and we started dating 3 days later. What's funny is that 4 days after that he left for a 2 month deployment to the South Pacific. People always asked us how we met and when we told them they were surprised to see that we were still together after meeting each other that way. I left him on the couch that night without giving him my phone number, but he actually took the time to call around to get it. We were together almost 2 years but in reality he must've been gone 10 of those months on deployment. It's weird how you can go to a party as a single person and meet someone that'll totally change your life forever.

*Sigh*...the drama continues.

OK this is the story of how I met the guy that I love. *we're not together now though*

Ok a friend of mine that I went to school with came over to my house one weekend when my parents were out of town and brought along Trey*my love!!* Anyways we met that night but then a couple nights later a group of us were having a little party at my house and I called my friend to try and get us some alcohol well he told me to call Trey and gave me his number. So Trey came over that night and we actually kissed that night as a lil drunken dare from my best friend*this was like 2 years ago* and well after that we just got together :) He was the sweetest thing. Not a very good story but oh well

No, he didn't propose 4 days after I met him, but four days after out first date. We had been working at the same place for about 3 months, but hadn't really started to talk to each other until about 2-3 weeks before our date. It was just right, I guess.

Profound, yes. But hey, when your job is as boring as mine is flipping bottles and setting drinks on fire serves to break up the monotany (however you spell it) Actually I have been at that restaurant for almost three years and I swore off dating anyone that worked there until I met my girlfriend. Somehow work and play dont mix in restaurants. I hate gossip, and even more hate to be the center of gossip.

You'll have to excuse the vaugness of that post. I was slightly hammered when I wrote it. At the time thats about all I could remember about meeting her. Looking up from that drink to see her standing there watching me.

Hail Alf.

My cousin was living with us after she graduated from hs (her family lived in another state). She had been dating this guy for 3 weeks when he asked my dad if he could marry her. Dad said not only no, but HELL NO! They got married a year later and have been married for .....whenever the day of the first Super Bowl was.:) 1967?

How I met my sweetie

Picture it: Louisiana Tech University Spring quarter of 93. Me and my sweetie were in the same class. At the time he had a girl friend and I had a boyfriend. But we were in this class(an aroebics class) and me,him, and three other people would also stand in the back row and complain about how stupid the exercises the teacher made us do were. We called ourselves the slackers.

Anyway, over the course of the quarter,me and my sweetie got to be really close. We went to some dance later on that quarter and after the dance, we sat in the quad and talked for a long time that night. The quad had lots of rose bushes and picked off a rose and gave it to me before he walked me backed to my dorm. So it's about two days before the quarter ends and I felt like me and my sweetie just has this chemistry going on,so I wrote him a letter. On the last day of class, he gave me his reply and we continued to write letters that whole summer. Also durning this summer, I broke up with my boyfriend and my sweetie had broken up with his girlfriend. So when we got back to school in the fall,we got together. And we have been going togeter off and on since then. And to this day we are the best of friends
