In this thread, we comment on GC's banner ads

the baby cord blood that shows up on the "Pregnant HS volleyball player" thread is EFFING weird.

and the one with the chick losing weight, she's now wearing a black bikini and red pearls. before it was a white one.

what say you about GC's banner ads?

Every time I click on something new she's wearing a different bikini! I was on here at like 6am and I was like this chick has more wordrobe pieces than any ad I've ever seen before. And is it not weird how she deflates right in front of you? I could see if they had her doing crunches or something, but she's just there and she shrinks. lol.

The ads change every time a page loads.

That there's already a thread about them.

RaggedyAnn 12-07-2009 02:56 PM

I laughed when I clicked on the water bottle thread and there was an Eco bottle advertisement on the page at the same time. That's the second appropriate advertising I've seen. The other was Border's advertising the Twilight series in the New Moon thread.

yeah... about that.

i was trying to go the more facetious route, as that one is (IMO) on the serious side. if yall want to shut this one down, no biggie.

AXiDMeesh 12-07-2009 05:12 PM

But this thread is specifically about banner ads, the other one was like asking why the ads are here/what to do with them etc.

my current one says I'm going to Atlantic City. yay?

Gusteau 12-07-2009 06:00 PM

Well, apparently GC knows I'm single and thinks I should try online dating...thanks banner ad, but my mom already told me that this week

thetygerlily 12-07-2009 07:46 PM

Apparently it's swimsuit season and I need to go get myself a bikini. Thanks Google Ads, I appreciate the heads up on the season change!

On GC? Or elsewhere? Please lead me to it, there's nothing I like more than making fun of pretentious rich people in Pittsburgh.

It was on GC! I laughed my ass off. I don't remember what thread I was looking at.

I couldn't believe it - are they that desperate for students that they have to advertise on banners ads on the 'net??? Who on earth is going to click on that link and say yes, I can afford to pay more than most college's tuition for my child to attend private school in Pittsburgh?

violetpretty 12-07-2009 09:19 PM

I like the dish network ad written in Greek.

PhoenixAzul 12-07-2009 09:58 PM

Whoa, I missed the Shadyside Academy one...I wonder what it says about their attendance/recruitment numbers that they have to put banners online?

The "Stop Liberal Bias on Campus" one comes up a lot for me, which is sort of hilarious considering I'm about as liberal as they come.

kddani 12-07-2009 10:38 PM

I'm so sick of the cartoon in the black bikini telling me about how to have a flat belly. I'm 29 weeks pregnant. My belly can't even think about flattening out for about 11 more weeks.

No biggie either way. Just making sure you meant to start a second thread.

I bet it only comes up if you're in the Pittsburgh area.

Ahh...I'm still somewhat in denial and refuse to change my area back, and considering that I might be going back to stay again, I think I might just leave it. It meant I didn't get a whole bunch of ridiculous political mail during the elections either.

christiangirl 12-08-2009 01:01 AM

What's up with the "treat eating disorders" ads??

Should I go Greek? Hmmm....I bet www.hunch.com could tell me. Uh huh.

preciousjeni 12-08-2009 01:38 AM

I know that ads are for money making, but don't these advertisers know we don't click on them?

Google ads tend to pay a certain amount based on "page views" and another amount for "click-throughs" - John could tell you exactly how many people click through, but it's significant enough (and the actual pay rate low enough per view) that it usually works out pretty well for both parties involved. Even if it just causes a quick jump to Google to look at something similar, SEO and all that makes it kind of work.

Google ads aren't actually all that expensive, all things considered, so they're not particularly worried about low yield. I know buddies have bought ads for their own personal sites as jokes, because it was so cheap, or they've used it as a wager.

Interesting. Then, what's the point in the first place? (Other than jokes/wagers.)

For the site publishing the ads, it's free money really. Just have to not be intrusive enough to cause traffic to decline.

For the advertisers, I'd imagine the low rates plus huge volume offset the low yield - besides, often they'll be showing ads of their own (or "click-trading") and making money that way to offset the ad costs, etc.

knight_shadow 12-10-2009 01:55 PM

I just saw a Facebook ad with a father breastfeeding his son.

I think Shrinking Bikini Lady > That.

tld221 12-10-2009 02:52 PM

i saw shrinking bikini lady on another site i read and i says "i know her from somewhere!" lol

she was standing right side up vs laying down.
