Chapter is a mess
.
|
|
If what you emphasize is partying and alcohol, you're not going to attract good members. Simple as that. In your other posts, you basically admitted to underage drinking and hazing as being what sets you apart from the other greek organizations on campus.
Best of luck with that. |

The first suggestion would be to stop airing all of your dirty laundry on the internet, especially since you advertise your chapter in your signature. If I knew that my president was airing chapter business to the entire world I would probably not have much respect for her either. I do sincerly hope that your chapter is able to regain a sense of sisterhood. You are just going about it entirely wrong. |

Perhaps your mess has something to do with the events you hold, such as the "sushi and saki bomb night?"
But what do I know? |

And I know I've read a good number of those threads before (and responded to at least one), but I guess I just never paid attention to the fact that they were all created by the same person. GammaDelt, question: You appear to have too many issues to even know how to go about dealing with them. How did this happen? I'm sure the chapter didn't survive 40+ years while carrying the burden of all of these problems on it's shoulders the entire time. What happened? What changed? And what can you change now? As has been shown in all of your other threads, you continue to ask for help, but you're not willing to do anything with the information. You need to seriously analyze the direction in which your chapter is going.. and fix it. You might lose some people in the process (but let's face it, that's happening now anyway). You need to accept that fact, communicate with the people in your chapter (and alumnae!!) who are willing to put in the work to turn things around, and just do it. Otherwise, you're not going to have a chapter anymore. |

Indyghib, I am right there with you! I have determined this is one of the many reasons I think 33girl is awesome! To GammaDelt, a few things: 1.) Stop airing your dirty laundry on here! 2.) I find it funny that you complained about the music organizations like SAI not being a "Real" Greek organization, yet I think YOUR organization is FAR FROM a "Real" Greek organization... Why? Well, let's start with the fact that you pretty much made a mockery out of SAI and Phi Mu Alpha (or the other music orgs. on your campus) by calling them out as being "fake" and I NEVER see anyone from those GLOs coming on Greek Chat asking for help with constituion bylaws, membership selection, running meetings, etc. Maybe you ask those questions because (aside from class) you lack a very important thing: An Advisor! I really like how, in one thread, you complained about half your pledges dropping (when you only get between 2-4 each semester because you can't advertise) and then in another thread you talked about your sisters not wanting to give a bid to an "overweight" girl. Beggars can't be choosers! Maybe THAT is YOUR problem...I also thought it lacked class (and discretion) that you would have the audacity to talk about some "overweight" girl on this site, with your GLO in your signature during a certain time period. If that girl came on this site, she could have seen that. Shame on you! Who do you (and your "sisters") think you are? Stop being drunken skanks who put down other GLOs if you want people to join you. I would NEVER join a group like yours. As a local, you should be happy that people would even give you a chance. I know a lot of people who would never even consider a local organization. I have had some friends tell me they would rather join the "worst" or "lowest ranked" National GLO on their campus than the "best" or "highest ranked" Local GLO on their campus. At least the local GLOs that many of these GC members are members of-are respectable! Gamma Delta Pi is a joke-in my eyes. It is a joke because YOU made it that way. Oh, and don't try to blame the poor retention rates on the Administration-it is YOU and YOUR SISTERS who make girls NOT want to join. You aren't even recognized. If ANYONE is considered a "Club with letters" it is YOU and Gamma Delta Pi. Good Luck with your "CLUB" because it is more like a JOKE! |
GammaDelt, I think what the ladies of GC are trying to tell you is:

In all seriousness, it seems like you have very different values than 99% of us on this forum have. You want the stereotypical "greek" experience- you know, the kind you see in movies. Drink, drink, drink, frat party, haze, drink, haze a bit more, drink, jell-o wrestlingparty, whatever. Since your school is lacking in the number and choices of sororities, maybe, oh, I don't know, PNMs are looking for ACTUAL SISTERHOOD?
It's great that you want to rush girls that have the same interests. BUT, in previous posts, you want girls that can party and like to drink. Is that the only similarity? Because if so, then you will not have a group of girls that would get along. Hell, I can go to a bar and run into 10 other girls that like to drink like I do. But 10 bucks says that I wouldn't necessarily get along with any of them. If you really want to succeed, then you have a fight ahead of you. But basically, you need to focus on the actual sisterhood. Otherwise, you will lose your members, will cease to exist, and in all honesty, I can't say that the resulting situation would really be a bad thing for your community. Edit: One more thing- if I was a member of your sorority and signed on to this chat, and then read all of the things that you have posted... well, I'd be horribly embarrassed, I'd be kinda pissed, and I'd think twice about staying in this "sorority". I sure as hell wouldn't tell anyone about my affiliation with it. |

And can I just point out that our chapter at her school is our oldest continually active chapter, Delta Chapter, chartered in 1901. That makes it about 64 years older than her sorority, and yet we don't have "the same type of tradition and ritual that [her] sorority does." I think I'll take our tradition over hers any day. |

I want to let you know that your organization has many great members (especially from the Penn State Chapter-sorry, I'm biased). One of the brothers, Milton Newberry, wore "PINK" in honor of a chapter sister that just passed away from a heart condition. He knew exactly what it meant to have Greek pride and honor those we have loved and loss (a little bit of our Phi Mu creed there, for ya'). The fact that a man would go out of his way and honor our sister like that said a lot to me. He will always be my favorite Phi Mu Alpha. Also, I agree with what you said about those traditions. Once again, SAI and Phi Mu Alpha (as well as all the NPHCs, NPCs, and NICs-if I left anyone out-I'm sorry) are great organizations. To even attempt to compare a "club with letters" that does nothing more than drink and judge people to the fine GLOs she already has on her campus-well, it is a JOKE. Good Luck with your "CLUB" GammaDelt. |
^^^^ I just love Phi Mus -- the first one I ever knew was my own older sister. :D
And thanks for passing that along about my brother at Penn State. |
And GammaDelt, I have a feeling the fact that your sorority is still around and promoting negative behaviors is part of the reason that the school is hesitant to allow pure social organization again.
|
I just checked out the Gamma Delta Pi website...
Here is their sister's section of their page: http://gammadeltapi.com/sisters.html Here is their actual site: http://gammadeltapi.com/ I figured since we were talking about the organization in this thread, it would be helpful to get an idea of them by checking out their site. Also, I noticed in the Social Activities section of pictures, the girls are drinking in (what looks to be) a fraternity house. I wonder if the fraternity house they are drinking in happens to be one of the fraternities the President chose to put down. Hmmmmm....I wonder???? |

"The Pledge Program will consist of traditional events, retreats and activities designed to assist new members in learning about the Sorority and its members. However, Gamma Delta Pi abides by a strict “No Hazing” policy. In addition to being dangerous and emotionally distressing, the members of Gamma Delta Pi strive to create a loving and nurturing environment to make each new member feel comfortable and safe." Previous posts vs. website info........ Just sayin. |

“The purpose of the Sorority shall be the betterment of the Community, our College and Ourselves, the cooperation with the administrative officials and faculties of the College in advancing scholarly interests and promoting higher standards of social conduct, and the cooperation with other collegiate groups in solving mutual problems and in building higher standards of womanhood. “ |

GDPi Purpose = EPIC FAIL |
Though I do think a large part of the problem they are having has to do with the way they present themselves. There are pictures on the PUBLIC website showing them obviously drinking together as a group.
|
OK, the last few posts just aren't cool. Making fun of/criticizing a whole group because one person can't keep her mouth shut is not nice. I've seen NPC sororities with far worse pictures on their pages. Stop it, kids.
33Mom |
lol damn. i just came to add my fave part too. :p
|
For the record, I took more of an issue with the "cooperation with administrative officials and faculties of the College" than the drinking, etc. I know that no one lives up to every value of their organization, but when you're blatantly and organizationally ignoring it, that's a problem. And since they have the ability to change their purpose, if they've decided they don't share those views anymore, I don't really have much sympathy.
As for the pictures, the few that I looked at were not that bad, and I have seen far worse from NPC groups. In the NPC case its actually worse because there are usually rules prohibiting it - this is a local organization and they can do what they want with pictures of themselves. I think there's been a large anti-local slant to this thread, which is unfair - they are not all like this. |
^^^ Cosign. The reason I brought up the pictures wasn't to make fun of them though. GammDelt said that she is for the idea of going dry, but the sisters won't support. But if you have pictures showing the sorority as a group drinking, of course all you are going to attract are girls who feel strongly about drinking.
|
Getting back on topic (though I love the side commentary), I wonder if the reason numbers are down because, as the OP says, the girls are known partiers, because they have drinking at recruitment events, that some recruitment events are WITH fraternity men... perhaps a lot of women are looking for a sisterhood based on friendship/service/etc., and NOT on booze and boys.
If the first thing PNMs see(at recruitment) is drinking and fraternizing with boys, what reason is there to join? I bet you five bucks that if they took drinking and boys out of recruitment, things would be VERY different (if people can get past their reputation enough to check them out). |
This thread is mean spirited and embarassing. While gammadelt needed to keep chapter business to herself, there was no need to out her sisters or attack them. They aren't the ones here posting their problems.
|
Thread WIN for the month, especially "33Mom."
|
I feel bad for the other actives and members of the group. It's pretty obvious that while they may have issues (and let's face it - whose chapter, while they were active, did not have some sort of issues?) - they certainly don't deserve their PRESIDENT going online and bitching about it, especially the president who previously posted that members of her chapter were having issues with chapter room secrecy. :(
|
I'm confused though because her first post was in April of last year. Has she been president for two years?
I'm starting to think that she might not be legit. |
But she's 2 legit. 2 legit 2 quit.
hey!hey! |
