The Blind Side

Can't wait to see this movie. It's about 2 Kappa Delta's, so that makes it extra exciting!

For those of you who haven't heard about it: Sandra Bullock will star in the movie, a true story about Leigh Anne Tuohy (KD from Alpha Mu chapter – Mississippi) and her family. The Tuohy family believed in Michael Oher, a homeless teenager, and played a tremendous role in bringing him out of his shell and into a life where he could succeed in all areas. Michael played football for Ole Miss and in 2009 was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round. Another KD played an integral role in Michael’s academic accomplishments, Sue Mitchell (Alpha Mu – Mississippi), played by Kathy Bates.

Check out the movie trailer The Blind Side.

I can't wait to see this movie! I would have seen it anyway because I love Sandra Bullock but a true story with KDs involved makes it a MUST SEE for me. :)

LaneSig 11-09-2009 06:46 PM

The book is a great read with a lot of insight into Michael's situation. You also get Leigh Anne Tuohy's strength full throttle.

Slight correction: The book doesn't mention "Miss Sue" as being a KD. It does mention that Leigh Anne Tuohy and her daughter, Collins, are both Ole Miss Kappa Deltas. I think Miss Sue didn't even go to Ole Miss; just a big Ole Miss fan.

Sean Tuohy, Leigh Anne's husband, was a Kappa Sigma and star basketball player at Ole Miss.

In the trailer, Leigh Anne's comment about Nick Saban being a good looking man was actually a comment by Miss Sue.

OleMissGlitter 11-09-2009 06:47 PM

I'm excited about the movie too. Since I work for Ole Miss Athletics we all have been waiting for the big day. I believe some of my coworkers are going to one of the premieres. I know a few of my coworkers were interviewed by the actors about some things in the movie.

Side Note: Sandra Bullock bought my great aunt's former home in the Garden District in NOLA recently. Fun times!

I also just looked her up in the latest Alumnae Directory. Yep.

Yeah, I got an email to alumnae chapter presidents in my district with the description I started off the thread with (didn't write it myself). So I was assuming the national officer who sent it was giving legit info. :)

Glad to see the story shared more in depth though. Very cool.

My bad/ The book never mentioned her affiliation. I bow to your alumnae directory. :D

I too want to see this - and the greek connection is awesome too. I just need to find someone who wants to plunk down the $12.

ASUADPi 11-10-2009 09:41 PM

I want to see this movie. The previews look amazing, plus gotta love the greek element ;)

I'll just go to AMC on Saturday or Sunday morning (before 11) and the movies are like 5 bucks.

NinjaPoodle 11-10-2009 11:03 PM

I'm also interested in seeing this film

Jill1228 11-13-2009 11:15 AM

Talking to DH about going to see it

thetygerlily 11-13-2009 03:01 PM

My husband and I were both looking forward to the movie. Human interest for me, sports for him- it's a win-win! But knowing that some of the main players are also Greek/KD makes me more interested in seeing it. Thanks KDAngel!

OleMissGlitter 11-13-2009 06:58 PM

A friend got to preview it early and she said it is awesome. Some of my coworkers are going to the premiere next week in New Orleans.

LucyKKG 11-18-2009 10:07 PM

I saw a Behind the Scenes kind of preview a few days ago, and I def wanna see this now. My boyfriend likes football, but I'm not sure if the movie is a little too touchy feely for him. I'll make him go anyway since he's dragged me to movies I didn't wanna see.

KDAngel 11-23-2009 04:01 AM

Just saw it and loved it! Definitely a great story.

There's a picture of a poster saying "KD loves #74" in the credits too -- so fun!

Yay! The first GC review is in. :)

I'm going to drag my older sister to see it this week. Can't wait!

FSUZeta 11-29-2009 09:21 PM

wonderful, wonderful movie! loved it!!!

RaggedyAnn 11-30-2009 07:19 AM

I agree. It was great and Sandra Bullock was again fabulous.

OleMissGlitter 11-30-2009 03:47 PM

Great movie. I saw it last week! Everyone should see this movie for sure!

groovypq 11-30-2009 03:53 PM

My boyfriend (a big Ravens fan) and I saw it this weekend. It was great! I liked that it wasn't totally deep/emotional - lots of good humor in it too.

You KDs have an amazing set of sisters in those ladies!

Ghostwriter 12-08-2009 04:07 PM

Saw the movie last night and then watched Oher with the Ravens. The man is a beast. For a first year lineman he really did a great job.

I was impressed with Tim McGraw. He is a better actor than I expected. Not great but better than expected.

Sandra is Sandra. Always a "hotty" and she played the strong woman to a tee. She even looked a little like Leigh Anne.

Definitely recommend this movie. It was nice to see a movie i would not be afraid to take my Mom or daughters to see.

thetygerlily 12-16-2009 04:25 PM

Late on the game, but I finally saw this on Sunday. It was definitely one of the best movies that's come out in the theaters recently- my husband even said "it may be one of my favorites". The story was great and didn't appear to be over-Hollywood-ized... especially for a "based on a true story" movie. Sandra Bullock did a phenomenal job- very different role than her typical movies, but she did it really well. And the KD ties were a bonus. I wonder if the lunch group were KDs, or msc friends? Of course I was crying half the time (I'm a sucker for the sad-happy stuff) but it was a great movie.

The only downside to coming out of a great movie like this was coming out to the parking lot to find that the car right in front of us had been broken into. That brought us back to reality.

ASUADPi 01-01-2010 03:47 PM

I just got home from seeing it.

LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!

I loved the sign that said "KD loves #74" that was sweet!

Question- does anyone know if Collins joined the KD chapter at Ole Miss, since she is there now?

Collins did join the Alpha Mu chapter of KD here at Ole Miss. I believe she graduated last year. I thought she was in grad school here but I'm not sure if she is. Oh and she was a cheerleader at Ole Miss too and on Homecoming Court one year.

AnchorAlum 01-02-2010 10:31 PM

I saw it last week and absolutely loved it. Sandra Bullock was amazing, as usual.

Good job, KD's!

purpleparrot 01-02-2010 11:01 PM

I just saw it today. So good!

ASUADPi 01-19-2010 05:26 PM

Sandra Bullock won a Golden Globe for her role. She thanked the Touhy's in her acceptance speech. It was a nice touch. The Critics Choice Awards either aired/reaired today on VH1, I recorded it, so I'll have to watch and see if she won.

utkdce 02-03-2010 02:15 PM

The Blind Side is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and Sandra Bullock for Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side!

KSigkid 02-03-2010 03:23 PM

I had some issues with the book when I read it...I might be a little cynical though.

Saw the movie out of curiosity and it was ok, but not anything Oscar-worthy. It seems to fit well with the majority of nominated films this year, i.e. crowd favorites as opposed to well-made movies.

LucyKKG 02-03-2010 08:22 PM

I finally saw this movie, and I liked it a lot. I thought it was cute.

baci 02-04-2010 09:58 AM

It is an uplifting movie, but it is not Oscar-worthy when it comes to the movie or individual performance(s).

An interesting article on The Blind Side, comparing the truth to Hollywood.

Having never read the book, I'm actually surprised at how much in the movie is based on reality, since movies like this are usually almost totally fantasy. It's cool that Leigh Anne and Sue got together at a sorority function. :)

An Alpha Gam and Phi Mu from my campus are extras with face time on screen. (They play some of Collins's friends).

Psi U MC Vito 01-29-2011 08:51 PM

I think it was 3 out of the 4 important women in his life were ADPi? And the teacher was also Greek IIRC.

Leigh Ann and Collins are both KDs from Ole Miss. If I remember right, Sue is also a KD but on that I will not stake my life.

I had heard this as well.

honeychile 01-30-2011 05:40 PM

Did Michael Oher himself go greek? I didn't know about the ADPi connection!

Psi U MC Vito 01-30-2011 05:43 PM

KD not ADPi oops. sorry. Thus the question mark.

Shellfish 01-31-2011 09:57 AM

An article from the KD magazine about The Blind Side:
http://www.kappadelta.org/assets/1280/tuohyfall2009.pdf

It confirms that Miss Sue Mitchell is a KD.
